Jungfrau Switzerland Travel Guide - The Top of Europe

- A travel guide for riding the train to the Jungfrau in Switzerland and exploring the Jungfraujoch, the Top of Europe. The Jungfrau is one of Switzerland's most visited attractions, and is also home to Europe's highest elevation train station. It's an amazing place where you can see glaciers and snow all year round. I begin by giving you an overview of the Jungfrau region itself, then we ride to the Jungfrau on the train from Lauterbrunnen via Wengen and Kleine Scheidegg. Then I explore the various attractions at the top of the Jungfrau at the Jungfraujoch including the Sphinx Platform, the Ice Palace, and the various outside snow play areas. We'll even take a look at how expensive a cup of instant noodle is up here!
The Jungfrau summit is one of the most famous peaks in the Swiss Alps. It has an elevation of about 4000 meters or 13,000 feet. It used to be fairly difficult to access well, until 1912 when Switzerland built the world's highest elevation cogwheel railway which takes you up to about 11,000 feet. And once you're at the top, there's a lot of neat stuff to do.
The Jungfrau is a pricey attraction. It can be a hundred, to a hundred and fifty Swiss franks depending upon where you're coming from. But I think it's really worth it. A lot of people, including Rick Steves say it's too manufactured for them, but let me tell you, I enjoy this manufactured platform that I can view the amazing view from. Otherwise I'd have to be like an ice climber and climb up this mountain. Which I never would.
If you're coming to Switzerland the Jungfrau is a must see for the natural beauty and splendor. It is truly amazing. Most trips to the the Jungfrau will start at Interlaken Ost. It's a station at the bottom of the valley. There's a few different ways to work your way up to the top ultimately to the Jungfraujoch or the saddle that's in between the two mountains. In this video I'll be going up the way by Wengen. You can also go up via Grindelwald. And you can also make it a circle trip. You can go up one way and then down the other.
The beginning of the journey up to the Jungfrau, you take the cogwheel train. It'll come up from Lauterbrunnen, and it stops in Wengen. And then it goes up to the station where you take the main train to actually go up to the Jungfrau. This train is kinda cool because it's a cogwheel train. You can actually see there's a track in the middle of it that has all these spikes on it that has the wheel so this train can be really steep. And I'll tell you, the train is really loud. And what's interesting is, the windows you can actually put your hand outside you get fresh air coming in which is really great on a day when it's probably not too hot.
There's a really popular travel quote that says, "It's not the destination. It's the journey." And this is one of those trips that it really is the journey. I mean the destination's cool, but the views on the journey are epic. So enjoy the views on the train ride. Have your camera at the ready.
The different facilities at the Jungfrau are connected via these underground tunnels. You come in and it's the restaurant complex. The tunnel will take you out to a lot of the outdoor activities. One of the coolest places at the Jungfrau is at the high climate altitude research station. This is the Sphinx Terrace. It's an altitude of 11,782 feet. From up here you can see snow and what looks like to be a big glacier, in this direction. You can see down into the valley where there's no snow. You can see the snow tubing and the snow hiking paths. I will say why you're up here be careful not to drop anything small because it's open grating and that is a long way down.

Brings back memories of my 2019 Switzerland vacation. Amazing views, and great time!!!
There are hardly few videos that actually help people, yours is one of them. Great work.
Awww. .. Thanks anshuman!
Another great video Chris, that gives me motivation to visit. More please, well done. We are going to Singapore thanks the help of your video reviews. Always really great and genuine reviews no matter where you go. Cheers and thank you. Phil

Jungfrau is the best amazing place especially with those spectacular views at the top! I been here and would return back one day again. done watching from France
I will be visiting here next month and found this video very helpful. Thank you.
Thanks pj!
I didn't go to Jungfrau when I was in Switzerland, so I like this video. It looks a little touristy, but the views, chocolate, and the ice cave was nice. Your reviews really have the traveler in mind, thaaaank uuuuu.
Thanks Chris. Very detailed & informative video.
Thanks Bene!
One more week left to go there thank you for the video 🥳

Very informative video. Thanks for making this.
Thanks v2click!
Your video is so funny. I’ve watched a lot to prepare for my trip and I really appreciate you showing us all around the plateau and the sphinx as well as the floor on the plateau. The clean air in a can and Korean ramen that’s available for sale is hilarious! Felt I was there too :) thanks!
Thanks Martha!
Jungfrau looks amazing especially with those views at the top! I had no idea about the Ice Palace, but it looks really cool (pun intended)! Although I know it is really popular, it looks like a must-see destination after watching this video. I will definitely have to check it out when I check out Switzerland someday!
It is really cool! :)
Great Video!

The restaurant at the base of the mountain in Interlaken makes the BEST goulash. Just yummmm and worth trying.
Thanks for the tip on the Goulash!
Excellent work
Thanks Babar!
Great video.
Thanks Jefferson!
would you recommend interlaken (gimmewald etc) for the Alps in late May? or is it too snowy still?
Its very beautiful. I went there top of Europe.
Liked you said this, " I enjoy this manufactured platform that I can view the amazing view from. Otherwise I'd have to be like an ice climber and climb up this mountain. Which I never would. "
Crazy rad!!
Thanks! :)
Hi Chris,
We actually do not have a plan to Jungfraujoch but after seeing this video, we became very exciting about it and we are 2 weeks away to the site. I actually have a question on the train for going there. We are the holder of Euro pass and I have requested for seat reservation from Eurail reservation portal but it said no reservation required, but in your reply to Justin below that need to reserve ahead. Since no reservation is required then we can take the train that meet our schedule and I assume there is no seat number, is my understanding correct? and how to make sure that we will able to take the train and have seat?
Thank you and best regards,
Susanto.
Pemandanganny bagus banget.. Kpn y bisa traveling kesana.

Thanks coffee time!
That was beautiful, i don't know if i can walk on ice, any way i'm wishing i can get there at the end of this year.
It is beautiful for sure!
cool
5:26 Hindi songs Tu Mere Saamne ( starting parts ) and Abhi Saans Lene Ki Fursat Nahi Hai ( ending parts ) were filmed here . Speaking of which I see tons of desis !!!
Also on the way down get off at Kleine Scheidegg and walk to Wengen. It’s about 2 hours but be aware there is a long steep downhill that’s a bit hard if you’re not in shape.
Sounds fun!
nice video
Thanks Ayman!
Switzerland is the best tourist place
I agree with you.
Waoooo I am Jungfrau & running into the arms of the Cimbibrummi 🙃😆😜🤗💥❤️❤️ Because The weather is cold Ín Dreamingnice swiss Country &&&
Hi Chris, great video. what time have u visited? will it be there snow in October end?
This was in June. There's snow all year at the Jungfrau
Only time I’ve been up here, there was some crazy fog. You couldn’t see anything but it was an experience anyway.
Ah! That's a bummer!
ฉันชอบสวิสมากคะสวยอากาศดี
Rice LOVES the jungfrau, he talks about it a LOT
Do you have to buy the ticket in advance or can be purchased on the same day? I've seen the price for the tour above $200, how do you get to paid 100-150 CHF?
I purchased it the same day from the ticket office in Wengen.. the trains do sell out though
How much the train tickets cost from Interlaken to Jungfrau?
what date did is this trip? what was the weather?
how long is the train ride for the main train to the top of jungfrau
How does the Jungfrau travel pass work? Is it worth it?
The world's highest cog railway is the Pikes Peak Cog Railway in Colorado built in 1891 at over 14K feet.
Hii, I have plan to visit jungfrau on chrismast this year,. Do you think it is a good month to visit? Btw, nice video. Thanks
It's probably going to be REALLY COLD :)
❤❤❤
how does it compare with Titlis? or Glacier 3000?
Great video. We'll be there in a few weeks. Question about getting reserved seats on the train; Can you get those when you arrive at the station or do you have to order them online prior to arriving at the station?
To go up to the Jungfrau they do sell out. We got them at the train station the day of, but they only had like 2 trains left going up. So I'd suggest you book ahead of time
Wow, thanks- good to know. The reason I was waiting was because we'll be there a couple of days and would like to visit on the clearest day. Buying a ticket ahead of times takes that option away, making it a roll of the dice...
I think you can wait to buy until you are in country at least so you know what the weather looks like
Hi, if we take Swiss pass. Then do we have to pay at jungfrau
What month your visit was?
Your video are very very helpful. What camera do you use??
I use a Sony FDRAX53
Yellow Productions thanks I will research on that . The clarity looks great.
Can you please make a full, very detailed list with the name of the stations ?
Could you please help me to guide about what sort of shoes would be fine to wear during this visit..?
I'd say some close to shoes with good traction. We both were sneakers with some good tread. We also didn't do the "Hike" to the mountain cafe. If you're doing that then winter boots for sure
I'll be at Grindelwald for skiing in march, sadly at the Jungfraujoch there are no slopes, but I wanna go up there. Is it more of a half-day or full day experience if you only get up there for the view and some pics?
9:49 the swiss really know how to get the money off your pocket, 5.90€ for a Coke, 4.30€ for just hot water... wow
We did it as a half day visit
Titlis or jungfraujoch? I just went titlis and it was great. And waaaaay cheaper. Worth it to come here?
I haven't been to titlis.. but I did enjoy the Jungfrau
Yoong frau. Not young frau. Also go early. 7:15 for 140 CF. We did this in May.
Which month did you travel here, may I ask? March?
This was in May
Is there any admission price for going into/up to jungfrau itself? Or thats it after we arrive in Klein?
And that first stop inside the tunnel - if we miss the train then we get to go on the next arriving train?
Since the only way to get to the top is by train, if you've bought a train ticket then that's your admission
And regarding the stop in the middle.. I have no idea.. but you can see the train from the stop.. it's really small. I'd imagine they collect everybody to get back on the train
8:46 oh well, the alps do actually contain a enormous bunkercomplex
Can u pls tell me same snow vl be ther in March 30th in jungfrau
Hi prashanth.. probably alot of snow in March!
I would like to know if it is nice to visit this place in June, it's the only month i can.
I think it would be!
I’ll be up there in a week.
Stay Warm... it'll be cold!
I love Jungfrau Region - it is one of my favourite places in Switzerland. I love to go skiing there, but I haven't been to Jungfraujoch yet. Mostly because it is ridiculously expensive even for Swiss standards and also beacuse I've heard it is not really worth paying hefty sum just to get there as it is super touristy and the Kleine Scheidegg and surrounding area is just as (if not more) beautiful. Would you agree?
I would agree that Kleine Scheidegg is not worth going to. If you're going, then you should go all the way to the top. I felt that the Schilthorn was a better value overall. But the Jungfraujoch is "neat" for the glacier and the mountain top observatory viewing platform and all the underground tunnels.
Thanks for your reply. I wasn't very clear what I wished to say and you misunderstood me, sorry. I've been to Kleine Scheidegg many times on my ski trips as it is a starting point for skiing and sledding, but I haven't been to Jungfraujoch. Never mind, have you ever been to Kleine Matterhorn in Zermatt?
I have not been to the Matterhorn in Switzerland. Only the one at Disneyland :)... I don't think that really counts though :)
My husband and I are going to Interlaken in July and were wondering if there was any good snow skiing there. If so, where is the best skiing and where can we rent skis?
Can anyone suggest me please I am confused between Jungfraugoch or mt. titlis
What are you confused about?
Should I visit mt. Titlis or Jungfraugoch
Which month is best time to visit Swiss ..?
I visited Switzerland in the summer 2019. I liked it.
Hi! My sister and I will be in Zurich next month and we would like to visit this place. Can you please help us how to get here? 😊
Hi Cheng. From Zurich you take a train to get here. You go Zurich to Bern to Interlaken to Lauterbruennen.. and then this video starts there
@@YellowProductions oh my.. i can't believe you actually replied to my inquiry!! Thanks a lot!! 😊😊😊
Hi.
I bought the swiss pass for three days (Rail Europe). I'm going first to Zurich and then Jungfraujoch.
Which one should I buy?:
--JUNGFRAUJOCH/TOP OF EUROPE Grindelwald or Wengen to Jungfraujoch Swiss Travel Pass Holder - High season or
--JUNGFRAUJOCH/TOP OF EUROPE Interlaken to Jungfraujoch Swiss Travel Pass Holder - High season
Thank you very much!
Is there a price difference between the 2 options? Are you staying in Wengen or Grindelwald or just doing a day trip?
Yellow Productions Hi, I will travel from Zurich. And yes, Wengen ticket is more expensive than interlaken. Thank you!
Coming from Zurich you'll come up on Interlaken first. So if that's cheaper then get that ticket.
do you take people on tour or just a travel guide showing which place to visit?
I'm just a CZcamsr.. not a tour guide :)
Which month was it?
This was shot in May
Sometimes I forget how amazing my own country is :(
I really miss Jungfrauch
I agree with you.
How far from Zurich to juanfrau
I'd say about 4 hours by train.. and that'd be on 4 different trains
is it worth to try this in February
Probably be way too cold in February!
@@YellowProductions Thanks, But I don't have any previous Snow Experience (Still not)
Hot water for 4.30 is insane! I'll probably bring my own tumbler with hot water.
Someone told me they prefer schilthorn over the Jungfrau because the views of the higher mountains are better. The pictures are better as well.
That's true! You can watch my video of the Schilthorn and decide: czcams.com/video/2QXM3VJFrGU/video.html
@@YellowProductions I watched the your video on the schilthorn but I'm afraid the will be closed for maintenance when I arrive April 21-26. Can I still take some of these tours or would it just be best to skip the schilthorn and do titlis? I'm going to do mt first from grindewald, but I want at least one more great adventure. I will have a Swiss pass. I need your Input because it is just so hard to pick two adventures with all the amazing videos of the gorgeous Jungfrau region. Thanks so much for your input.
@@odell2970 ill be in the swiss alps on the 23rd aswell, im gonna go to the jungfrau region, I've heard that its also just as good
@@ashazatif1415 I just hope the weather holds up so we can get some beautiful views and pictures.
@@odell2970 yeah, it said 80% chance of snow
Why all my dream destinations are so expensive... Switzerland, England, Finland, Denmark, Norway :(
why on earth would you go to Denmark? To look at the little mermaid?
@@Zynob Denmark is more than just Copenhagen and Copenhagen is more than just a small statue.
I think mount Titlis has a better view on mountains.

Why come to the Jungfrau Region of Switzerland? Because it shares the distinction, with the Valais Region, as home to the tallest and most vast glacial region in Switzerland. The glaciers are retreating with global warming. Sadly, Some of the lower glaciers will disappear within the next 20 years. So, if they float-your-boat, it’s time to get thee to the Jungfrau Region now.
jungfrau actually means virgin, but its also the zodiac sign virgo
Going to Mount Titlis is much cheaper
4:30 for hot water. People need to have some business ethics ...more importantly government should know how to deal with.
would you recommend interlaken (gimmewald etc) for the Alps in late May? or is it too snowy still?
