I'm addicted to watching this. What a ranch, what a landscape, what views and what majestic magnum bulls. I'd have preferred to watch a rifle hunt but this was great anyway. Amazing to picture the natives hunting on this very land, so long ago.
Jason thanks for putting it on film, you lived the hunters dream.RIP.
I know I'm late to the party on this one - but I just wanted to thank you guys for such an amazing film. Very well done. RIP Jason.
This video should be held up as the example of how to add music to an elk hunting video. Superbly done!!!
I agree. Especially when the bulls are bugling. They don't need accompaniment, and this video gives them space to sing their tune. Beautiful.
I didn't know who Jason Hairston was until I came across this video, although I have know about KUIU for many years and have a ton of KUIU products and apparel. Seeing Jason's interaction at 10:50 it makes it hard to comprehend that someone that upbeat with such a vibrant smile doing great things with his life could end it all. R.I.P. to this man I hope he found peace.
One of the best hunts I've been on, I felt like I was right there with you guys..keep doing what you do. I CAN SEE THE LOVE OF THE HUNT
IS IN YOU AND YOUR PASSION FOR THE ELK.
Awesome video, glad Jason got to experience all of these amazing hunts and adventures. Rest easy Jason
My first September in Montana is finally here! This video always gets me so fired up. RIP Jason, you are a constant inspiration in my life to embrace the challenge. Don’t wait!
100% Same here. I’ll be moving to Montana in 3 weeks. Jason is always on my mind when I’m thinking about hunting. He was a legend for sure. RIP Brother
@@aqua.scape69hopefully you’re not from California
Wow that's some great footage! Now that's what I call "in your face!!!" I hope that you continue to put out more of these videos....
As a brand new elk hunter I could not stop smiling at this video. So wild and crazy! So looking forward to my first elk!!!
This is probably one of my favorite videos from you guys, its just for sure a trip of a lifetime!
Among best Elk videos I seen. Outstanding for beauty, scenery, and footage.
. . . yet another great film excellent job . . .
Half way through this video and it's one of the best elk hunting videos I've seen! And that's all I do is watch elk videos.
Great video!!
RIP Jason Hairston!!!
The music makes this one feel magical, RIP to a legend
How’d he die
@@Wind_River_Outdoors_307 he suffered from CTE if I'm not mistaken, and I believe the company is currently running a fundraiser of sorts on their website for it. Check it out!!
jgil k thanks will do
Mate what a great watch and what a PRIVILEGE for you all to experience such a hunt!

One of the best elk hunting videos I've ever watched thanks for sharing!!!!! I'm definitely hooked on your videos now to try your camo line of clothing.
RIP Jason Hairston
Did he die ?
Leo Barnaby yea he shot himself I has good friends with him.
Such an Awesome hunt and memory of Jason!
You saved my day! What a great hunt! Awesome!
That was the very best elk video I have ever seen. It's every elk hunters dream!!!! Very nice job guys.
Incredible job with this hunt. RIP Jason. You are truly missed brother. 🙏
Absolutely a fantastic video, nice job and congrats!
Outstanding Video.. thanks so much for this!
Unbelievable number of big bull encounters! Great footage and awesome production!
Burp...besides the great footage, hard work, screaming bulls and unbelievable Bull you harvested that was the best part. Nice work.
Friend Jason, nice elk. Looks like you had a great hunt.
Wishing you the best with your business.
I hope to have KUIU on my back for my next hunt.
Take care
What a hunt to be proud of . You guys are good. A dream . Captjohn.
Guys, Let me say that this is one of the BEST Elk hunting Videos I have ever seen. I personally do NOT like Music in Videos but you guys kept it at a Minimum. Music kills the Vids. I truly enjoyed this and Thank you very much. No Sales Gimmics, No sales Pitches, just Hunting. Love it. Good Luck this year.
Thanks Bill. I actually wrote all the music for this over the course of a week while I was editing it. I don't have time to write original music for our videos anymore, but I'm proud of what I put together for this, and glad to hear that it worked for you. --Blaise, KUIU's producer
Look forward to seeing more of your vids.
Congrats Jason! Great bull and great footage!! Planning my sabbatical to Montana its official..
Though I normally prefer Public Land videos... This is an outstanding video. Lots of bulls, beautiful country, and you guys stuck a TOAD in the end. Thanks for sharing the experience with us all.
I dont understand how all That works There in usa with public and private lands
@@javiermartinezonsalo6365 Well, we have millions of square miles of public lands that anybody can go out and hunt on. But, there are also millions of square miles of private land like ranches and things where only the owners or people who pay can access...
Ok I see, thanks
Very well done film/hunt! Looking to get my hands on some Kuiu gear soon!
Joe
Great bull Jason very well filmed hats off too you and your camera crew. Great story great hunt.
that some serious hunting discipline! I would shot that 7x7 a day ago, but that's coming from someone w/out an elk on the wall YET. I'm from the North East. I hope and dream of an elk hunt. #bucketlist. 6.5 yrs later and this vid is still impressive! great KUIU production!
Nice job guys, love you guys.
I don't know that I've seen so many really nice bull's on one hunting video very well done and amazing hunt to say the least
this is an incredible video
Awesome video!
This made me excited for September.
Very nice. Beautiful bull.
Postcard scenery, Montana is really beautiful, I named one of my daughters Montana. Such big heard's of Elk, management appears to be working. Interesting to see animals walking right up to the outfitters.
Great video and Info..Keep going buddy and best regards from Canada.!👍🍷🍁🥂✌
R.I.P. Jason.
awesome!!! im speechless, cant wait to move to montana!
Grat job on the video guys. Keep it up!
Good hunt, great video.
Congrats!!
really dig the soundtrack for this vid great stuff
Well thanks! I (the person writing this reply) was the one who wrote and produced it! We don't have time to do custom music anymore, but it was great to do it for this project.
That spike that stood there forever, would have been so hammered. Nice work and I hope to catch the Kuiu tour in Boise at the end of the month. I hope you guys make pants for short fat guys. My wife wanted a tall skinny guy but she was hunting on public land. lol
Epic guys, simply epic! I would've had a hard time passing on that 7 X 7...ouf....
RIP Jason. God bless.
The interview at 13:42 cracks me up. You are all cheesing do hard😂
Can't wait to get my kuiu gear!
Very good video, especially like the not over the top chest pounding fist pumping, respect for the animal. very well done.
Great video, really captured the experience well! Now lets see one of Jason's sheep hunts on video, I'd love to see that!
Beautiful video! Showcases your love and respect for the animal. I'm not a trophy Hunter but rather a meat harvesting type dude, but there was obviously no lack of bulls there. The music you guys used underlines these majestic giants. What a wonderful beast. I wasn't quite that thrilled with shotplacement and penetration on this one and the moose video... but it seemed to work.
Thanks for the compliments, especially on the music--I (Blaise, KUIU's producer) actually wrote it specifically for this piece, and spent a lot of time on it! As we all know, bowhunting is more art than science, and we all do our best to place shots as they should be. As the producer, it's really important to me to cut these films in a way that respects the animals being harvested--glad to know that's coming through.
Excellent Hunt, excellent hunting, excellent SPORTSMAN !!! WAY TO BE BROTHER MAN!!!!
Can't wait to move to Montana in Aug,nice country, nice bull!
beautiful place. looks exspensive :)
Awesome Video. I recently started Hunting with a recurve, and I Just found out about your company and I'm stoked to try out the gear!
Damn Jason we miss you. Thinking of you Brother.
Very nice!
I've watched pretty much every video on your channel and have been wondering what bow and setup is Jason running in some of these videos? I've made the switch from rifle to Archery and have been just trying to get some ideas, thanks. Love all my Kuiu gear and has served me amazingly so far!
That is amazing
Gotta love private land, no pressure, and roads. But nice vid!!!
Great video so sad for Jason's family it's too bad that such a fun sport to play and watch can be so deadly in the long run.
if that doesn't make you a believer in the Vias camo then you're just plain stubborn
what knife was Jason carrying? I know you guys sell the kestrel ultra light knife but it looks like Jason carries a full size fixed blade.
I wish I had watched this video a month ago when the elk season was just opening, instead of today right after it closed. Now I have to wait a whole year before I can hunt them again! BTW, I thought Jason was a die-hard longbow guy. I was surprised to see him packing a compound bow.
Jason does prefer his longbow! At the time of this hunt, Jason was having some serious neck and shoulder pain related to his old football injuries, and couldn't draw his longbow without severe pain. He decided to go compound because he could draw it in a more comfortable position, and then stay at full draw to aim.
Normally you get those hunt videos with rock music or whatever.. This was probably the best filmed elk hunt I've seen thus far! Great job guys! Nice job on that monster bull, he looked more of a 370+ class bull. Man, I was sitting here like.. why didn't you shoot that one or prime shot for this one... lol. Thank goodness I wasn't on that hunt.. lol.. I would've had no self control!
+Chase H Thanks for the kind words!
I wanna be part of your crew!! Haha. I've been binge watching all your videos! Love all the great footage!
Public lands the way to go in my opinion!!! That’s just my opinion way more rewarding!!!
10.35 sec HOLY HELL, that was amazing! Thats as far as I made it in this video and I was so blown away. You dont have to shoot anything, this video is made already.
Never heard of you before but that got me to subscribe.
The camera guy's pants were just about blown away, too :) Thanks for watching!
Great bull, Jason! I wonder what that first bull you drew on would have shored? He was a dandy as well! Love Montana! I recon a guided hunt with Climbing Arrow Ranch carries quite a premium. Amazing numbers of elk!
Jason ended up with the bigger bull--the second one was larger. But while we were in the edit process of this film, he said something like "If I had been smart, I SHOULD have shot that first bull, because it was the best one we'd had a chance at the whole hunt. It was basically only luck that we got a chance at the bigger one."
Fun hunt to watch
Perfection from beginning to end. I wonder what perfection costs? If you have to ask how much, you can't afford it, must be nice.
The music is great in this vid
Thanks! Our producer, Blaise, wrote it himself. He doesn't have time to do that anymore!
beautiful
Great video. Never seen so many bulls on a private ranch. How much does it cost to hunt the preserve?
Great bull congrats
Yes
was it the bull was on his left when shot but the arrow was on the right of the bull? or i am just mistaken?
It's hard to see--the bull was to Jason's left when he shot, but it was facing to the right, so Jason hit it on the right side.
excellent
Nice bull Jason. But i would like to know if you had any particular reason for not having your pack frame in their pockets on top of your pack? because mine is always coming out of the pockets.
Hey Warren--the Icon Pro 1850 that Jason is running in this film doesn't have pockets at the top of the frame; the bag is shorter than the frame. Instead, bridge straps connect to the clips at the top of the frame, and go through the holes on the top of the frame risers to connect to the suspension. I don't know what bag you have, but if it's anything larger than the 1850, you tighten the straps at the bottom of the pack to cinch the bag tight to the frame. Make sure you're attaching the frame to the upper set of loops on the bottom of the bag; the lower ones are meant for gear lashing, rather than connecting the bag to the frame; since the upper set of loops are above the bottom of the frame, it allows you to tighten the bag onto the frame. This video will give you an idea of how the bag is meant to be connected: czcams.com/video/NU_Lyie8Lak/video.html Give our Customer Service team a call if this doesn't help.
I have the 5200 and no matter how tight i make the straps it always comes off sooner or later
Warren Lacour
I suspect they're connected to the wrong loops. If the bottom straps from the frame are connected to the loops at the bottom of the bag, loosen and remove them, and re-connect them to the loops a few inches above that; you can then tighten the straps until they pull the pockets down onto the frame.
this is fucking amazing!!!salute to you sir!!
I'm curious as to why he Vias pattern varies so much in coloration? My Teton pants are nothing like my brothers attack pants, and I see little to no brown in the Vias worn in this film? Why?
A couple of factors may be at play here; different fabrics take dyes differently--we work very hard to get them as close as possible, but there is some variation no matter what we do. If your brother bought Attack pants more than a year or so ago, he may have the original version of the Vias pattern, which was a bit lighter, with more tan areas and fewer grey and brown areas. We updated the pattern last year. As for seeing no brown in the film...not sure what you're seeing, but there is plenty of it--they're wearing the newer flavor of Vias in this film.
+KUIU Ultralight Hunting yes, his jacket in the beggining has brown, but Jason's long sleeve has almost no brown towards the end. Vias is the baddest camo to ever grace the hunting world. thank you.
What you're seeing is a combination of less color saturation from printing on merino wool, and low-contrast video from shooting in the shade. In the beginning, he's wearing a Chinook jacket which takes the colors very strongly, and is in direct sunlight; at the end, it's a lower-contrast garment in low-contrast light, so it's harder to see the differences in shade. More of a camera problem than anything, though.
. So how much does a bull like that cost?
Love this video. Wonder how much a hunt like this costs. Easily over 10k I’d imagine.
Luckily, living in Idaho this only costs $30 for the elk tag. Obviosuly gotta factor in gear and expenses but still much cheaper than out of staters who have to come in to other states and get guides and stuff
This is a great video but RIP Jason
Really love your gear . Just can't afford it......Yet.
What an awesome video!
On a side note, do I see Jason wearing Scarpas? Looks like Triolets or Mont Blancs?
I wear Scarpa Liskaams, great boot.
Chris Sharpe
so do I, wish they still made them as I'm looking for a new pair for next spring. Have been really thinking about the Triolets.
Buddy is using the Scarpa Wrangells, so far so good. They're the replacements for the Liskaams, just not a full rubber rand around the bottom of the boot.
They filmed river runs through it in Libby
Hollywood ain't got nothing on the videographer that did this elk hunt!! It is unbelievably beautiful!! It was so sad to hear about Jason.
Why did Jason wear the vias as opposed to the verde if he wasn't hunting in the rocks? Obviously it didn't matter too much with a ton of elk coming in so close. Just wondering?
+Brock Whitney Color vision isn't really an elk's strong point. They're able to see some yellow and blue, but they don't have the cones to see red and green. In this case, breaking up the human outline into patterns of light and dark is more important than color blending; both Vias and Verde excel at this. Because the environment was a mix of dappled wooded environments and grassland, either camo would have worked.
+KUIU Ultralight Hunting how does a mule deer's vision compare to an elk's?
Pretty similar--most ungulates see this way. However, they're very sensitive to both movement and shape, which is what camo is really for--to break up your outline so you look like part of the scenery. The movement part, of course, is up to you!
+Brock Whitney It was interesting that last year(2015) I used three different camo patterns, Kuiu Verde and Vias as well as ASAT. Elk seemed less aware of me while I was wearing Vias than either of the other two. I mean just standing there looking at me and not running off the other way at first sight.
Is there a Web site or phone number for the ranch.
Hi Jeremiah, it's a privately-owned ranch, and does not have a website. I'm afraid we can't give out the personal number of the owner.
holy shit that bull walked right up to that camera man @ the 10 min mark. that was nuts.
