That loop is a lanyard loop and I think that used to use it to wrap the cord around their wrist so if The gun fell out of the holster or someone tried to take it from you or you dropped it you would still retain it because of the loop around your wrist I don’t know how many people really used it but it is a stupid feature to have on a gun nowadays
