- In this video I tell a little story about my trip to the UK to visit @MidwinterMinis and attend games workshops WARHAMMER FEST. I decided to paint this blood angel space hulk model of a dead terminator! We talk about tenth edition, mental health and painting minis.

I really enjoy your videos. I'm very curious about your choice of brushes. I've been painting for about 1-1/2 total and I feel like I'm doing well because of channels like this. Now I feel like I I've been painting well enough that brush quality matters. If you happen to read this, I'd love to see your hobby station and tools. The plastic surgery is my favourite little series. As someone who is also adapting to disability it was very close to home

Dude seriously story time is the best! You have such a candid way of conveying complex things and an engaging sense of humor, we’d prob watch anything you want to talk about. Your story about our “plastic therapy” hobby really resonates too. I found it after losing nearly everything and digging out of depression during Covid and every time I hear a similar story of what the hobby has done for someone, it’s undoubtably moving.
Can’t wait for more vids like this. You’re the hottest new painting CZcamsr and so much better than most. Obvi most of our favs. Lean in man. We wanna blow your channel up so you can be full time and not ever even have to wince at a uk flight so you can go hang w your heroes!

Also on your note about building community and learning 10th edition, it might actually pop off if you made shorts and incorporate all your humor in Voice over and editing to learn different aspects of the game. There’s sooo many new people joining or coming back to play in 10th, combined with your painting, might skyrocket growth! And just being so down to earth and earning peoples trust in how fast you became an elite/inspirational painter and teacher that they’d track with you on your journey to become a great player. A student of the game. Imagine the vid recapping placing in your first tournament and how you only started in 10th?! And honestly with your disability that might affect standing for hours, there’s gotta be a badass ergonomic portable rolly stool/chair with great back support you could take with ya!
Takes a lot of guts to speak so openly like you have. You're a great role model and an inspiration to many in this community. Keep it up chief.

I work with chronic pain patients as a PMR specialist, and hearing your story how you found new goals and worth after an accident is amazing. So glad you could share this, also your transparency regarding anxiety. Thank you for sharing. This will mean something for someone struggling with the same. Hope you will visit Europe again in the future!
Its so crucial. When I was initially injured, I couldnt work.. couldnt part take in any of my hobbies. My wife needed to carry most of the groceries. I went from being this big 6'5 "Man" to.. feeling useless. When I discovered mini painting and better yet, found a new way to help people... I felt whole again.
That's the side of injury often forgotten. So glad you found your healing and shared it.

I deleted all my CZcams videos and let my channel plummet while I became a full time streamer, BUT full time CZcams is easily obtainable. You’ve got a lot of support. Shorts aren’t what you wanna tackle. I suggest making lengthy videos that you could turn into shorts to takeout 2 birds with 1 stone man. You deserve to have this as your career my friend. Happiness is what matters most, get it Maverick💪🏼

I love the story that mini tells, you can tell it met a horrible fate yet the lower amounts of dirtyness shows it is a much grimer fate then dieing in battle, dieing alone in the abys of space.
Brilliant video, Mav. I have several family members who suffer from chronic pain, and having a purpose to get yourself through the day makes such a big difference. Can't wait for more longer videos!

Thanks for sharing this story, I’m a firefighter, fighting with a back injury, and use painting minis to get centered whenever I can. It’s nice to know there are other people out there who share the same sorts of experiences.

I was into Warhamer for a long time, but only picked up the hobby after losing someone very close and dear to me, as a distraction. It's therapeutic, enjoyable and helps me overcome some of my flaws. I now have just over 2300 points of 40k Dark Angels and am planning on starting a Word bearers HH army after i reach 3000
As a former paramedic I completely understand crowds and anxiety… I have the same reaction
So I actually got some help with this and apparently its common for people who have careers in high adrenaline fields. You go from non stop stress to total calm and its so different that it actually causes alarm. Weird hey
Hey Mav, I’ve stumbled upon your channel after recently returning to this hobby after a 15 year hiatus. A lot has happened to me as well - combat veteran, transitioning back into civilian life, insanely demanding job as an RN…Painting miniatures has been one of the things that helped get me out of the depths and healed my brain. Your work inspires me to keep going and to push myself to be a better painter, and a better human. You’re awesome and not alone! I've started painting 40k miniatures recently. It was my need to keep my brain busy in order to fight off depression that drove me into the hobby. My first Space Marine was painted after watching your video. Thank you for telling us your story and well done for producing such a popular channel. I look forward to seeing much more content.

I have some friends and family members who are firefighters. Physical and psychological injuries are all too common, so its really inspiring to see someone come out on the other side. Its awesome that you can talk candidly about your injury and anxiety, you're doing great work! Keep it up!
My days of being embarrassed are long behind me. Its all about being honest and hopefully helping someone else with their struggles

that's how i found hobby at 13yrs old when gw only had one store down on queen street. broken ankle wandering around looking for stuff to do cause i was bored and could read a book in a day watch a movie in 2 hours and the internet back then was only just starting and i had played through most video games that were released back then. but space hulk and painting minis well that got me, plus my first box of beakies!

I couldn't help but imagine myself in your position. Wow! I'm happy for you. I've been on disability for a while and somewhat recently got into the hobby. I've always been an artist, so the painting/sculpting/terrain building is what really matters to me about minis. Your story def give me hope... so, thanks.

Man this vid is what I needed, I was depressed since last year and my 8yo love art and asked me to get him wh40k and some paints, I love gaming but never got into table top but building those minis and painting them using your tutorials and many others in CZcams has been amazing for me, like you said something in July brain clicked finishing a mini feels soooo good and doing it with my son is an indescribable feeling I’m so happy to get your vids on my feed and subscribing to you thank you for everything any time I’m stressed I can come to your Chanel’s and other CZcamsrs and just relax and look at some awesome people painting minis, that means the world to me thanks for all your hard work

As someone who also suffered debilitating back pain for two years, I can understand how much of a mental health abyss it can leave one in. (Thankfully, when the issue was finally properly diagnosed, it was a simple matter of correcting it with surgery. I've been pain-free and fully mobile for years now. Here's hoping you can get the treatment you need.)

Awesome video, man! That mini is beatiful. I actually feel the same way about painting. Depression is something straight out of the warp and the best way to fight it is to do something that makes you proud of yourself. I‘m still new to the hobby, but painting minis is giving me the self-esteem I‘ve been missing for quite some time.

Being an Army disable Veteran, it has been hard to see new things to get into and break those depressing moments. Honestly you inspire me recently to start working on painting like yours! I've know about Warhammer for a while now but never had a driving force to take the plunge into the world. That was until I cam across your channel. The way you do your figures is truly inspirational, the battle damage and gore really paint a picture of the a world worth looking into. I'm so glad that you are going to be expanding into longer videos. I love watching your process because it is so informative, it makes me want to give painting a go. Also absolutely cannot wait to see your battle reports, the beautifully painted armies going at one another. I'm so excited for the future of this channel

Stumbled onto your page via MWM and a bunch of other really great miniature painters. Got to say what an inspirational story and it's fantastic to see you finding some purpose after going through such a life changing event. I've only been painting 40K for a couple of months after a near 20 year absence and the improvement I've made in that time is thanks to tutorials and videos like MWM. The 40K scene is absolutely fantastic these days and a marked improvement on what it used to be like when I first started out as a teenager.
Keep it up, I subbed and I look forward to checking out more of your content.
Its a shame I missed you at Warhammer fest, but its great to see your journey and see your experience. I only went on the Monday with my father and we had a blast even with the queues. Looking forward to future uploads!

I experienced something similar recently. I had the opportunity to go to Bangkok for 5 days to meet with a friend who was traveling in the area. I've got lots of mental health problems deriving from years of abuse, exacerbated by ADHD that went undiagnosed for 30 years. I was in a club, having a great time enjoying cocktails, meeting fellow travelers, I was keeping a steady pace and not letting myself get drunk. Then suddenly I come to and it's closing time, I'm in absolute ruins and unable to control myself while a lovely Hungarian girl I met is comforting me. I had a full flashback episode that I don't even remember.
Travelling is hard, especially with a disability, no matter how positive the intentions and goals.
Despite that hiccup, I still got out there and experienced a new place.
I'm yet to find something that brings me out of this awful slump of not feeling able to do anything nice in my spare time. I have loads of miniatures I still need to paint, not sure if I ever will.
Your paint work is exceptionally good, your videos are fun to watch and easy to follow. You're doing great! I'm going to try and take forward your kind of attitude, it's inspirational and you should be really proud of what you've achieved

Great video. I've always found modelling and painting minis to be fantastic therapy and a brief escape from the harsh reality of work and the real world. I've been a rural firefighter so you've got my thumbs up! Look forward to more videos in the future.

I'm new here, saw you on MidwinterMinis and decided to check you out. I have dupuytren's contracture and nerve damage in my hands. It got to the point that my hands were in constant pain. I was inspired by a friend to paint at least something every day. The physical exercise of painting miniatures have done wonders for the pain with it being mostly gone. I'm glad you also found help in this wonderful hobby.
Aside from the physical benefits, it's kind of crazy how mini painting can calm the mind and sort of help us ignore the pain. Such an amazing hobby.
I will be honest, you are one of the best painter IN THE WORLD, you got everything RIGHT about both the universe of 40k AND the techinque ! It's awesome and YOU are the one that i am looking to when i paint damn will i try to do my best to honour your skills and technique ! Never let ont moron in the world allow to shit on your art. Someone with some physical and much more intense mental illness, this is so awesome to see. I also still get some anxiety around crowds but after being isolated at home due to illness AND covid lockdown, definitely built up a bit of agoraphobia. You yourself have a massive amount of talent, dedication, and most important a personal story to share and motivate others. Thanks Mav ❤
