    In order to SEE where is the area EXACTLY to apply the pads you have mark up BEFORE the area with a marker on your kayak!!!!
    In my pure opinion a piece of thin metal (aluminium or stainless steel) can be applied with use of plastic steel having FOR EVER with out painting and all these wotks
    Have good time every time!!!
    Best regards from Hellas (Greece)

    It looks all wrinkled and the front edge is really sticking out from the kayak. I just used a piece of kydex and a heat gun for mine. No painting required and no wrinkles. Just attached it with some 3m automotive double sided tape and ran a thin bead of silicone around edge so it was smooth to the kayak.

    I've found the only way to get this smooth around a radius or bend is make relief cuts along the side and then lay the material over top itself. I've also found it may not be totally waterproof, so I wouldn't use it as a permanent fix for existing holes (plastic welding is still the only real solution for holes). Lastly, there are a few brands of these UV cured fiberglass patches that may or may not be cheaper alternatives: CRC, Bulls Eye, Rapid Fix, etc.

    i am curious why you did not address the non molding issue with this product? it was and is so obvious that it isn't flat molded to the kayak even to the p[oint of it sticking out at the front edge what looks like a 1/4 inch or more. i wonder if using a heat gun to stretch it and shape it would work because what you have there is not a very good instalation or not a very good product. good vid thanks for the upload i think i will use keel eazy .

    • @BeardedBassBrawler
      @BeardedBassBrawler  Před 6 lety +1

      Life and Pryce ! If you are referring to the wrinkles the short answer is I didn’t know it was going to happen. When it did and I am on camera and only get one take, I had to panic on the inside and just go with the flow and finish.

    • @nickbarrfishing
      @nickbarrfishing Před 5 lety +1

      Life and Pryce, on most sharp keel bends, a relief cut or two to help bend around the sharp upturns are helpful. On my installs I'll cut a couple of relief cuts, then fold over, and sand smooth. Turns out great and is much more durable than any of the kayak keel protectors out there

      The squeegee is same as window tinter or vinyl wrapper would use, auto shops have them; although a heavy rubber roller is probably more effective. You can use pure acetone to clean, because HDPE isn't soluble at lower temperature.

    I don't really understand what I'm seeing. It looks like the Keel-Guard at the nose of the keel is not down or adhered to the boat. Also there are a lot of wrinkles along the edge that we can see. Do these come out or get sanded down at some point. I was really surprised that you went ahead and painted before the Keel-Guard was totally down. Not trying to be a nit-pick but just wondering.

    • @nickbarrfishing
      @nickbarrfishing Před 5 lety +1

      Jack, Jeff, for sharp keel bends, a few relief cuts do help to smooth it out. On my installs I'll typically just make a cut then layer over, and sand down smooth. Works out great!

    Too late now, but if you take your time smoothing it with your thumbs and fingers you can do away with all that wrinkling on the curves and you can also get that leading edge smoothed down so it's not sticking out like that. This was a pretty poorly done install.
