Facts
Okay Dani Olmo is a luxury signing for us, we have plenty of great talent in midfield and he would be a surplus. This signing will have a feeling of deja vu, where we were heavily lacking in defense when Puyol retired but instead of finding or buying a replacement we ended up splashing money in positions we already had plenty players in. And this is now happening because we know we need a defensive midfielder and at this point it seems it's not even a priority. I know things can change over the course of the season but this move will either fail in spectacular fashion or it will work like a miracle but at this point of the club's development we don't need to leave things to chance, we need to sort the important positions first then go to the luxury signings if funds and Fairplay allow it.

@@mtradergameclearly I have a lot to learn about Olmo but my point is we need a DM more than an AM. When we look back at last season and the season past, we were able to create chances for our attacking players. What our biggest problem came to be was our defense had no cover especially when play transitioned upfront and we were hit on counters. We lost and drew more games because of lack of a pivot to cover and connect the defense and the midfield to the final attackers. That's why I am of the opinion that Olmo is a luxury signing for us not that he is a bad player.

I don't like it. Like you said, if we have 60 million available to sign a player it should be on Zubimendi or added towards Nico and the rest to sign Merino. It's a bad idea simply because I highly doubt this us Flick's decision, I think this is Laporta and Deco who want Olmo because think about it, who's he gonna come in to replace? We have Pedri and when fit, he's the better player, he's not gonna replace Gavi and I still doubt Frenkie will leave.
IMO it's gonna be like a Bartomeu signing, a great player signed with no real plan. We don't need him, we need a player like Zubimendi.

I don't think Xavi is a bad manager, I just think he wasn't ready for the pressure. Flick can deal with it thanks to his long experience coaching at a high level. As far as the pivot goes...frankly, based on last year, we need to be quite a bit more offensively minded, so I think Olmo is shaping up to be the best target behind Williams.

Man has coached high level for 1.5 season as club, 1 year as national team. He did not cope well with World Cup pressure. I don’t consider assistant coaching as “Coaching at a high level”.
Xavi wasn’t ready for all the politics, he could handle the pressure well as shown in 2021,22, 3/4th of 2023.

Flick has been in managerial role for 20 years. He also has a coaching degree. He promoted Hoffenheim from the lower leagues to 2nd league (but was later sacked because he didnt bring them to 1st tier) he was assistant coach of Trapattoni and Matthäus at RB Salzburg, later became CEO at Hoffenheim and technical director of DFB. You still think this is not enough? Kids these days.

They don't play the same position Merino is box to box midfielder Romeu is a pivot. Barca should go for Martin Zubimendi if they want a pivot but its seems like they are focused on signing attackers and there will be problems in defence again without a proper defensive minded midfielder.

Signing Olmo over Zubimendi would be a big mistake! I honestly don't understand why the board is so keen on him if we already have very good players that need to play in that position (pedri, fermín, gündogan). Especialy for that price! Zubimendi should be the priority

I'd say buy Nico and Olmo, sell one of our weaker attackers while also unfortunately not brining back Félix. Buy Merino and try to sell Frenkie or Araujo. Zubi would be perfect, but he probably won't leave the club. If there is FFP margin left, I think Guillamon, Antonio Blanco or Turrientes are interesting CDMs who are still young for a cheap price.
I am also shocked that we are going after Nico and Olmo. By the end of the previous season everyone knew that a pivot was top priority. Right now I would say we are losing focus by going after wants not needs (pivot). It’s for this reason why we will always be in financial difficulty

With the way that Flick talks about La Masia, I wonder if he’s thinking of Marc Casado and Marc Bernal as the defensive midfielders. Both play those positions and are ready to be called up to the first team. Pair them with a ball winner like Gavi and you don’t have the need for a defensive midfielder from outside the club. Thus we can move on Olmo to cover the other aspect of the midfield.
It would be amazing if Flick and his staff can revive Ansu's career. If the club can pull off the transfers of Nico and Olmo, then it means that perhaps some of the youngsters like Casado and Bernal have impressed Flick so much. Plus he said he wants Romeu to stay. We have our best 3 midfielders injured or recovering now though - De Jong, Gavi and Pedri. Maybe De Jong will be sold. But also Ferran and/or Raphinha as well.

I strongly believe that Flick has taken a close look at Marc Casadó and is convinced he can mold him into the pivot he wants
To answear your question, It depends on our system for the season, if Flick changes our formation and tactics, then yeah, we should wait and see if we really need a new CDM, but it is a great risk so the signings that will come, need to be the exact perfect signings for the positions that Flick wants to build our new first XI around.

Yes we should go after Williams and Olmo. I do think Zubimendi is a great option too. Olmo has proven he can play in the big moments and that means to me that Flick has a plan for the midfield.defense.

I am a bit worried. On the left side, we have Ansu and Ferran. (Sometimes Vitor and Raphina). Bringing in Nico would add depth but who will accept to be on the bench? If we leave Vitor to go, there will be no natural center forward.

Not to mention this has confirmed what I've been saying about Barça, we don't have creative players in the middle of the park, I knew selling Puig would come back to bite us, now we're shelling out 60 mil for an AM when he would fit there perfectly. We need proper CDM we needed it for almost 5 years. Olmo is a lexury signing we need a CDM more than a winger or attacking midfielder. We never seem to lack those kind of players in La Massia when ever we need them even mid season. After Nico Williams, we should sign a defensive midfielder first before going for Dani Olmo. Dani Olmo is a fantastic player but we have other priorities which needs to be addressed first. if we have money to go for olmo, why not go for Zubimendi. Although if we need to go for olmo, we would need to sell pedri first. There is no way that both pedri and olmo can both play together and pedri can generate a substantial amount to fund these transfers, Having said this, we should first address Nico, Mikel merino and Cancelo deals first. Olmo is a luxury signing in my opinion.
I just don’t get going after Olmo… we have Pedri, Gundogan, and Fermin who all play brilliantly as a 10, plus Pablo Torre coming back, plus Gavi and Raphina as extra options for advanced 8s. We have so many ways to hurt opponents in attacking midfield and no one who can play the role of a Rodri or Zubimendi. And let’s not forget a top fullback. Kounde-Balde-Fort is a great core, but that’s just not enough depth for a packed season.

Nico Williams and a defensive midfielder should be a priority and I don’t mean Mikel merino I mean an actual 6 . Both Mikel merino and Dani olmo are luxury signings imo
