Yeah... Was thinking this during the entire Vorugal fight last episode. Where the eff were the Ravenites? In the end, all they really did was act as messengers to get Vorugal to come to summoning area. No help in the actual fight at all. If they had come earlier, then maybe Vox Machina could've taken out Raishan right then since she's already weakened from the disease, expended some magic, and took a fairly big hit from Vorugal before he went down. The Herd may have actually been kind of terrible people, but at least they actually helped VM take out the dragon lording over them unlike these people. :(
@@ScorchHellfire Though, the herd were at least like grog, but with weaker equipment, Most of the Ravenites were slaves that most definitely didn't learn much fighting and had ramshackle gear. I don't think there was much they could do, add to that, they couldn't just have their army there waiting for Vorugal since that would just be a red flag of warning. Also vox Machina flew to that location which is why it's a short trip for them, the Ravenites had to basically run while saving energy for a fight that they themselves didn't know when the all out attack would happen, just the hunt.

It's like the difference between _having_ a crazy ex you're trying to break up with and _watching_ someone break up with a crazy ex. No matter who you are, it's kinda fun to watch from the outside.

I kinda like the no-nonsense not a romantic types XD. Grog is just a homie who is legit fun to hang around with.. Travis plays Grog with a child like innocence and I adore the character because of it. Grog and Pike's friendship is goals XD
'The elephant in the room' i thought they were going to adress the big problems and ramifications of having allied themselves with Raishan, the fact they just killed another member of the conclave, the fact Thordak will now be super pissed...but now...

It is also a pun towards the last part of the episode with that long awaited Vex.Percy moment (and Vax's addressing the same relationship when talking to Vex early in the same episode). A perfect title for those 3 events.

It's so hard to forgive yourself, even when you could forgive someone else for the same thing. Looking back and understanding that you were young and alone and in pain is hard, but it's necessary to grow. You have to forgive yourself and be kind to yourself. Man, I cry so much during this show.
That one really hit SO hard in the feels. If there's anyone who understands what Percy is going through, it would definitely be Vex. She really knows what he hasn't been willing to tell himself, as far as compassion.

I kinda do that too. It's part of what I love about this. I get invested with characters so much that I get giddy at these moments. I literally laugh out loud at ridiculous moments. When pike showed up last episode I was hopping up and down, I was so happy and surprised....and I cried when it seemed Percy died... I completely avoided the comments until after the whole ordeal to avoid spoilers.

Yeah but it's not embarrassment, it's even better -- Travis is the biggest shipper of anyone. And it is awesome-I love that he ships Percy and Vex more than anyone else (it's adorable). Especially how it's built into his incredible love and respect for his wife. I love that of everyone at the table, TRAVIS is the one who looks the most gleeful and excited at the romantic moment between Vex and Percy!
@@paramitch I genuinely can't imagine. I had a player who wanted to pursue romantic stuff between two characters of mine, but their s/o joined the table as another PC and I couldn't fathom it not being at the very least awkward or uncomfortable if not downright problematic. Thankfully my PC was so incredibly aloof and naive to anything regarding emotions it was easy to play them off as just comically unaware of all the signs, and realistically I doubt anyone *would* have a problem with it, but it's just so hard to wrap my head around. I'm pretty impressed with how 'chill" everyone is at the table about it
They spent the whole episode really wanting a ship. And they got it.

1:31:25 - This is how you organically fix issues your players are having. Travis is bummed about not being to reach foes, so Matt makes sure they find boots of leaping (that don't need attunement, mind you).
Since Vax now has Whisper, he should give Grog the Boots of Haste. Vax having an extra bonus attack is wasted as daggers do bugger all... Grog however having an extra attack...
@@pineconeduck9148 D&D doesn't have to be about optimisation. Grog already hits like a tank and does so quite a lot. So.. does Grog really need it? Only if the DM punishes the group for not doing so. And I don't think Matt is that type of DM (well, to that extent, anyway).
@@LyricalDJ Yeah, Matt isn't that kind of DM - which is neither a good thing nor a bad thing. Every DM has their own style, and Matt's style suits himself and his players, so it's perfect for their group - other groups are different. The advantage of Matt not punishing them for failing to optimize means that his players are able to decide who gets which magic items based on roleplay and not just who needs it more mechanically - and Vax hoarding 'more than his fair share' of magic items is very in character for Vax because he has a self-esteem problem and thinks that he needs them in order to keep up with the others. Which is a fine thing to roleplay out, as long as the other players do mind and they don't seem to at all.
But back to the original point - yes, I've also noticed that Matt often hands out a magic item that fixes a particular character having a problem. The other example that comes to mind is that relatively shortly after Taliesin commented about how Percy couldn't do much against an enemy that resists non-magical weapons is when he obtained Animus.
@@pineconeduck9148 That wouldn't fix his issues with the recent fights. You suck vs flying things as melee. Vax now has two ways to deal with it and Grog did not want to give up his already attuned items anyway. Giving him a way to get into the face of an enemy in the air without giving up an attuned item is best.
Or he could use those javelin +1s he was given in his fight with Kevdak. Or just realise from that experience he could buy javelins.

Don’t get me wrong, I love the dramatic battles and fights and things, but I think the role playing and dialogue moments are probably my favorite things about Critical Role
SAME I love the narrative stuff. I speed up the battle scenes ngl
I find it’s because there is a balance when it’s multiple RPG sessions in the row You can just see people getting bored specifically grog. But a little bit of action I feel goes a long way. But yeah some of these intense fighting sessions I feel like you just need a break to.
D&d 5e battles are lonnnnnnnng. You have to have fights in a game to spice things up. But some "boss battles" that last 3 hours are a joke. It's not matt or the groups fault it's the game itself. It's the only thing I don't enjoy. The roleplaying is fucking amazing. Best TV show I've never watched
Ngl though I don’t think I would be able to handle it without people like Scanlan and Grog. Everyone else gets a little boring and repetitive after several Vax and Keyleth and Vex conversations because they seem to drag it out a little too much without actually bringing anything new to the table. Idk probably just me. Percy on the other hand...
It was amazing that Laura remembered the line about forgiveness and carved it into her bow. Now THAT'S roleplaying. This shit is soooo much more interesting than the combat or whatever stupid boring shit Grog gets up to.
Today I learned that while Taliesin is the master of crow sounds, Liam has an absolutely perfect Gollum voice.
Oh yes. He is such a LOTR nerd that he had apparently perfected Serkis!Gollum years before getting involved with Shadow of Mordor. (The hard part was the motion capture.) And long before that, the 1978 animated Baksi movie was a formative experience for him as a kid.
It would be weird if Gollum's VA couldn't make Gollum's voice.
And elephant sounds. I'm not convinced there wasn't a tiny bit of editing in post on this video, but even without it, it was impressive.
I mean, he voices Gollum, so kind of par for the course lol.

I love the fact that this is the second time they killed a dragon, then spent the next session messing around in the mansion. First a cannonball contest, now fighting an elephant. Amazing.
It says a lot about how good the cast of CR are that you can have an episode that's basically just divvying up loot and it's endlessly watchable.
I love that whenever two characters have a serious moment, everyone looks away or into the middle distance. But Matt always stays with the two who are doing it and it makes it so much less awkward.
I always see it as them trying not to distract from the moment -- it makes it easier for us to focus when the others are being still/turned away!
And to me it seems like they are doing so to better picture it in their heads
It definitely seems like they're trying not to distract, but also to keep themselves from just staring at their friends doing amazing work.
@@annafantasia Well anyone can perceive it how they like, but I'm positive it's because romance is awkward, even in roleplay.
There's actually a point during Vax and Vex's talk where Taliesin whispers something to Marisha that sets her giggling into her elbow and Matt gives her the "stay quiet" finger on his lips. I love how respectful everyone is of private moments. :-)

Still the Jump spell would be way more effective. Jumping straight up is 3+str mod. which would be 8-10 feet for grog if you included his gauntlets. with the Jump spell it becomes 24-30 feet high. the boots only gives him 15 feet

@@leevio way too late, but the spell wouldn't do shit. The boots making it a bonus action give him extra movement, the spell doesn't allow you to move more than you would. Like Grog right now can already jump 24ft, because of his str score, with the jump spell he would be able to jump 3*that; but that doesn't extend his total movement, so he could only do the 50ft of movement anyway.
With the boots, as far as it's understood, he can run 50ft, then as a bonus action, jump. Which effectively gives him more movement.

I mean to be fair, she was butchering something that has probably no regard for nature and is severely disrupting the ecosystem by hunting all of the other predators.
I mean, the animal kingdom and lots of nature is pretty brutal when it comes down to it. It makes sense in the idea of "if we're killing this, let's not waste any of it".
I also like how dragon hide is supposedly nigh invulnerable yet with no tools Keyleth can process a dragon

Vex and Percy's rp at the end of the episode is just beautiful. Watching them speak (especially Laura) you can tell how much they care about their characters. It makes them feel so much more real and it really is a joy to watch and listen to. :)

the vax and keyleth pairing literally happened out of nowhere though. its as if the moment vex and percy started showing interest in each other the cast figured they had to find a love interest for the other twin and keyleth was the only attractive and present female left so they forced it. there are so many moments where vax clearly was forced to side with keyleth for the sake of the ship even though she was pulling some dumb cringe shit. and to be clear, i like marisha as a person, but i HATED keyleth. she was so preachy and clearly looked to steal attention when it was on other characters and made some REALLY dumb choices. i see nothing appealing about keyleth aside from her physicality. i find it hard to believe vax did either. their relationship was so forced.
At the end of the episode and was like "That episode title sums up the Vex and Percy thing great" and then I realized they literally had a elephant in the room at one point.
I'm so far behind so I'm late getting to this episode, but Scanlan's "I encourage peace" thing may be the single most heart wrenching but yet heart warming moment of the entire series so far. That level storytelling coming out of what is basically improv is absolutely mind-blowing.

yes it is. i think scanlan was trying to leave behind a good legacy for tiberius, regardless of what may have been true. he twisted a funny passing moment with the encouraging violence into a more poignant message with the encouraging peace (i think this would qualify as irony? or something similar to that) so it causes you to look back from then to now and think about how far they've all come

Grogg has had multiple fights that focused on him alone, he and Scanlon frequently RP together
Percy has his work forge, Whitestone and the Legacy there.
Keyleth had the Fire Test and the return to the Fire Ashari to help close the Fire Portal... other than that there's really not been much.
I understand what you meant however, yes that would be a boring period of time, but they rest of them found things to occupy there time and it helped Keyleth further her goals of doing what she can to Heal Tel' Doray. If the rest of Vox Machina stopped and watched, they might have felt inspired seeing that the land can still be healed even after the Conclave has ripped it apart.
I'd say it was appropriate for all the characters involved.

Right, I was like "huh, I don't remember him thinking highly of the Ravenites"...he was incredibly classist. That's one reason why he always deferred to Keyleth, because she is technically a princess, and he hated the tailess dragonborn member of the council upon seeing her.

It helps that Kima is a pretty fun NPC and they don't really need the weapon themselves. Not even to sell, with so much money from the dragon hoard they can build 2 strongholds with enough money left over to pay for all their expenses.
Not that they really need another stronghold with whitestone as their de facto home settlement now.
