I hope this beef carries over multiple seasons.
Same thing happened with Pom wonderful or something like that. They sent him a fridge full of there juice and sent him a letter. It was hilarious.

I know Danbury as the site of the infamous New Jack/Vic Grimes match from ECW, in which New Jack's skull was cracked in a botched balcony dive. It's known among wrestling fans as "the Danbury Fall incident", thereby immortalizing the city in the only way it truly deserves.
Unfortunately for me I am well too aware of its existence. My mother in law lives there and let’s just say I agree with John!

In all honesty, if John Oliver makes fun of someone's hometown he does give them great publicity. As well as making random jokes is his job to make people laugh during crazy times. He is a good distraction.
And while at it, he's Somewhat informative while doing so. I mean I wouldn't use him as a primary news source but as a comedic suplementary.

The only thing I know about Danbury is that during his presidency they had correspondence with Jefferson about the separation of church and state and their desire to keep it. This is where Jefferson wrote the famous phrase, “I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should ‘make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof,’ thus building a wall of separation between Church & State.”
I did a Google image search to see if any of Danbury's churches have a wall around them. At least one does: St. George Antiochian. But it seems rather low for a wall of separation.

i live about an hour away from danbury. and my mom used to have to take work trips out there up to her co-workers complained about how far away it was, so being frustrated with danbury's existence was already kind of an inside joke in my house. leave it to john oliver to take it to a national scale lol

@@GenerationTech You're right about the risks of the news sensationalizing subjects and exaggerating realities. I believe there are multitudes of good people in the US, of all racial backgrounds.
It's just that as a black person from Kenya, reading/listening to other black people's experiences in the US makes me wonder if I could handle the apparent suspicion that black men bare on their shoulders.
And if I were able to live in a good neighbourhood (which I think statistically are predominantly white - like somewhere nice in Danbury, CT) would I ever really be able to stop and smell the roses without spooking a local Karen somewhere peering through the windows?
