- First metal scrap yard visit of the year : Cool DIY projects and ideas to come.
So today I got to visit the scrap yard to pick up metal scrap for upcoming projects. There was some material to pick but most larger pieces got sent in December to the port where it leaves to get melted down. Now if I want to build cheap projects this is the way, sometimes new materials can be found.
I enjoy looking around to see if I can build me a grill, cool project or other DIY ideas.
Well hope you enjoy the quick video of my visit to the scrap yard. I will sure be welding up stuff some and sparking an ARC with my welders.

Nice find.... can't wait to see what u build
Its to cold today to work so might start sparking the Hobart tomorrow.
Scrap yards are such a blight on the land, but boy what a resource for cheap recyclables! I hate to see waste. Good job with your projects and ideas!
I see tons of stuff in landfills but due to safety they wont let us pick stuff out. I am glad I can still find decent pieces of scrap steel to build random stuff. I will be building a shop soon but prices have me scared for sure. I might do like a pole barn but use steel pipes instead of wood.
👍👍
good find Jorge .
Yes, scrap metal is like gold these days. Prices are so inflated that I rather not build anything unless I use scrap metal. I know have 3 semi truck wheels lol
Happy New Year. wow you're luck to buy material with scrap. thats awesome.
These days everything is expensive and scrap is what I use on alot of my projects. I bought some used pipe yesterday that I paid top dollar which put a dent in my pocket. Maybe 1 day I can try casting if the shop ever gets build.
Hmmm....you are like me Jorge, drop stuff off at a scrap yard and come back with more ! 😁😁
Things are expensive lately at some scrap yards. Yesterday I bought 8 pipes that are 4 1/2" OD between 15 and 20 feet long for $640. The pipes are 1/4" and 3/8" wall but I did save $300.
I usually bring home more than I take for sure.
@@cutweldngrind Yeah anything metal is crazy expensive.
Make sense here in L.A. we don't have that option even the junkyards have been closing one by one out of 5 only 2 are left open in our area no such thing as a scrap yard to pick up metal like that either you by short pieces from the steel supply or full length if you want to build something show us your finished projects
I placed several projects on hold. R-Panel was $2.30 and now cost $5 a linear foot, 4" Channel was $48 and now $95 a 20 foot joint. I really stopped doing side jobs as no one wants to pay these hefty prices. I took a month off from youtube or so due to cost of materials. Well hopefully I can start welding stuff soon.
We used to buy from scrap yards but they say it's too dangerous to go into the yards now so they won't allow it now.
I remember back in the day they would not let us get junk from the land fill because they stated it was dangerous as well. The people that would work at land fill would make sure you did not take anything and once closed they would remove metal, lumber or things of value. Well I hope in a week or 2 they will have some stuff I can use.
Happy Holidays and nice haul on materials.... I used to work with those teflon coated blue bolts/nuts in the refineries... Keep them videos coming...
So the blue color is a Teflon coating I guess I learn stuff every day. I am not sure if I will do the project I intended with them but at least I learned something today. I think my Holidays were to short but well worth it with the family.
@@cutweldngrind yes, those are Teflon coated nuts and bolts ... Corrosion and chemical proof ... Long lasting bolts... They might of been extras or left overs from an oil/gas well job site near your area... Expensive material though ...
I would pick up some of those large threaded pieces you could make great leveling devices with those I wish we had a good scrap yard here that we could go to but most of them are all shut down our steel place has a good drop pile that is pretty cheap good video
The metal distributor 50 miles away used to have a drop pile but stopped like 4 years ago. I was going to bring those silver bolts and forgot them due to picking up all those nuts. The bolts are like a foot so they could actually work good. We have another scrap yard but the guy just wants MSRP price on rusted and pitted material.
Looks like I picked a great time to start building a custom flatbed with the high prices 🤦♂️
I actually had designed a car hauler on my notebook and when I called Laredo Discount Metals I was in total shock. The prices increased 100% and my shop, trailer and metal car port projects were canceled. I wanted some I beams that were $400 a piece and they are close to $1000 now. Do you have a video on the flat bed since I don't recall seeing that pop up on my feed.
@@cutweldngrind no, I haven't started on the bed yet! Me, my wife and all our family have been sick with Covid since Christmas day😩I'm so behind on all my projects. The inflation on everything is ridiculous
@@JsCrazyCutzLLC Hope you all get over this situation quickly and safely. Well hopefully things get better so we can afford to continue with our delayed projects. I actually thought you were making a trailer but its the flat bed on your f350. Well hope I can see some updates soon.
@@cutweldngrind thanks 👊
