  • Im not a film maker but I like to use the gear I have to throw things together sometimes. This was shot on the Lumix G7 with all vintage lenses for that cinematic look. All shot by candle light which most would say is not possible with micro four thirds. came out better than I thought it would.
    Shot at 1000 and 3200 ISO on the Mir 37mm 2.8 russian lens and the Voigtlander color ultron 50mm 1.8

      Hello thank you ian, I appreciate that. You know it's interesting whenever I put my daughters in one of my videos the viewers seem to connect in a way they didn't before and they see things that I may not have picked up on even though I'm the one shooting the video. Hey techno thanks man. Hey from the start I wanted to make sure it was not a horror movie, I kind of wanted to prove or at least see if a movie can be shot by candlelight on micro four thirds, sometimes full frame is hyped up like The only thing capable. Hey Michael J thanks so much. I'm very intrigued with how vintage lenses look when candle light shines into them, I just had a bright idea to try to shoot one scene and other ideas just kept coming. And when me and my daughters would play back each shoot they would look at it and say gosh that looks like a movie LOL and I'm like yeah don't it. I never really enjoyed the idea of filmmaking it seemed too tedious and headache but it's nice to do something short and manageable. Thanks for taking the time to notice those nuances

    Dang, cute..... Good work there... All was good except for a little lens flare in the beginning shots... Instead of a head-on shot, I would suggest a 45d off-axis angle to shoot your left quarter face and fire in the same frame..... You will be a filmmaker/producer in the future.... Your daughter did great in that classic flashlight lighting up the face.... In a few years you could be at the Sundance film festival..

      Thank you, last week someone told me I should try to enter a short film festival and I said I don't have any short films, maybe that prompted me to try this one. Hey that lens flare was exactly what I was trying to do, that's the reason I use my old vintage lenses instead of my modern clinical ones, I actually started using the Helios which flares even more but it's 58 mm and it was just too telephoto.

    Awesome. I use a G7 too and I really struggle with low light. Can I ask what settings you used to achieve this? Or is that not a simple answer? I know the camera can see what I’m pointing at because when I slightly press the button and it auto focuses it must open the aperture right up but as soon as I hit record it goes dark again.

      BB whats happening, I was gonna ask what you doing up but realize youre on the other side of the planet. hey man I mostly used a lens fron the 50's, a mir 37mm 2.8, attached to a focal reducer. everything was shot wide open at 1000 ISO. I dont care about shooting log or color grading, those things are overrated to me. I had some faster 50mm but they just werent wide enough for the indoor scenes. thanks for your support, my mind is super creative lately so im just riding the wave while its rolling.

      Raychristofer yeah it’s only 4pm here :) I’ll have a play with my camera tonight. I notice there are 4 modes for shooting. Aperture priority, shutter priority, A &S and a fourth too. I’ll see what low light shots I can get.

    • @Raychristofer
      @Raychristofer  Před 3 lety +1

      @@Beyondthebackyard-au I always use aperature priority unless its sports and I need the shutter speed to stay the same for slow mo. turn the dial to movie mode and go into the menu to choose which priority you need. the trickiest thing is choosing your focus point before pressing record because autofocus lenses wont work in low light and they dont flare like this anyway. even in daylight it can goof off lol. let me know how it goes.

    The first thing I do when I turn on your video is smash like on it! Well done, keep doing, bro. Now to the tips: You picked up the music very well. But in the end, when they thought about turning off the lights, the music was too epic, which doesn't really fit into the scene. I know you just liked it, but here you just had to add some music that would convey the cunning. The voice had to be recorded on a hidden lapel, as an option. And of course, add some kind of sharp sound effect when your daughter scares you. This is probably a professional cost. But in general, considering that this was done for fun, everything is cool.

And strange enough whenever folks give strategic ideas I always ask them to shoot a video example to show me, it never fails they always say oh no I can't do that I was just making a suggestion, and have a bunch of reasons why they won't lol . Bro I can't wait to see the master at work lol, you just reminded me that the CZcams library has sound effects if I remember correctly . Yeah every time I make one of these and I play it back many times I start to see things that could have made it better but that's the best way to learn. Peter McKinnon suggest just shooting and editing over and over. this was my first short film though I'm considering the low price gear I used I think that shows anyone without much money that they can still put something together. I have a feeling this could have even been shot on an iPhone

    • @altermoremusic
      @altermoremusic Před 3 lety +1

      @@Raychristofer Yes, for an iPhone - quite possible. Some filmmakers also shoot commercial videos on iPhones and even films. You see, I do not position myself as a filmmaker, I do something completely different in the main. Probably, the reaction to your video is like that, because you shoot and this is what you are doing. But, for example, here is my first short film, a thriller, which was filmed not even on an iPhone, but on my old one Xiaomi Redmi 4 Prime: czcams.com/video/NklTiLEqN-8/video.html I made all the music and voice acting myself. However, like everything else. This is an artistic arthouse, as in your case. Therefore, I did not even say a word about the wrong light or something like that. Because in the arthouse and feature films, light is most often a deliberate idea of the director. I, unlike other critics, want my brother to really do better. And although I do not do this professionally, I do understand something.
