      It’s a pretty crazy such tiny mics can create such a vivid representation of the instrument. :) I’m curious about the difference between the two, from memory, the 4099’s are a little kinder on the high frequencies.

    Amazing video! That is a very nice review and great sound, guys. Question: have you tried MCM 114 with an acoustic guitar microphone and singing at the same time? Would that be an issue? (like.. bad sound for capturing too much voice?) or would I get a "good enough" isolation from the voice sound? I'm afraid of this being too "broad' and getting too much of my voice and loose/omit sound from the guitar.

  • @efnerva664
    @efnerva664 Před rokem +1

    Hey Alec. I really love your videos. The content and the songs are so good. I'd really love to see a video comparing the Neumann V402 to Rupert's 511 pre's. They both seem to try to achieve a similar goal with a transparent transformerless design that slightly enhances the original sound.

    • @alecbrits
      @alecbrits  Před rokem +1

      Thanks so much! :) I think they are quite different designs as the RND has an output transformer with the option of adding silk, while the Neumann has a transformerless topology with no option to alter the tone coming in. I think either are great units to capture clean recordings, but the Rupert Neve may be a little more flexible. That’s just my options on though. Hope this helps. :)

    • @alecbrits
      @alecbrits  Před rokem

      The 4099’s are a little easier to position and feel slightly darker in tone, but a comparison between them would be very interesting. I think the 4099 feel a tighter in their polar pattern to me.

    • @alecbrits
      @alecbrits  Před rokem +1

      They are quite special that’s for sure, couple things to keep in mind, they are all metal, so if you ever record strings, just caution the players that the mics can scratch their instruments. The mics are also heavy, so be aware of that for horns/strings :)

    • @68Snaps
      @68Snaps Před rokem +1

      @@alecbrits Do you mean that the clips/attachments are all metal? I would have guessed that they would have been softer, like the DPA 4099 clips lineup. 🤷

    • @alecbrits
      @alecbrits  Před rokem

      @@68Snaps where the clips touch the instruments are soft, but they are pretty beefy plastic/metal. I did not get a chance to try the strings bridge style clips. I was talking more about the mic heads themselves.

    • @68Snaps
      @68Snaps Před rokem +1

      @@alecbrits Oh yes, that makes more sense. Last violin I miced cost only €27,000 (a nice intermediate level instrument... still complaining about mic prices? ;-) ) and the primary objective, before getting a good sound, was not to damage the instrument. I was literally scared of touching it. But still, I'd feel ok with a metallic head, as long as the clip is sturdy yet soft. BTW, I ended up micing with a Royer R10. Worked great.
