QUADZILLA IS A KILLA
Really articulate guy. Great at explaining his technique.
Such a powerful speaker. Tom should consider doing on stage talks about bodybuilding.
He did and now started world tour. I watched a long seminar from Funland if i remember well.
He does. Seminars
Met him at an olympia once. Such a nice guy + legend
seems passionate and geniuine
Maik Erbe what Ebonics are u talking. Go read a book dude.
Larry Medina my damn account was hacked
This entire series with Tom Platz is pure gold. Thank you for offering this timeless seminar with a true legend
Tom is extremely thoughtful and intellectual about the details of lifting. Thanks
Its like listening to a Shaman or a spiritual practitioner of Bodybuilding. Love to see videos like this, And hope to see more Tom Platz ineterviews. Great work Dave Bourlet.
The King of squats, Tom Platz great guy.
one of the hardest training men I've ever seen, such a nice guy with it.
I talk exactly like that whenever I'm stoned.
This guy's a legend!! He's crazy but in a good way👊
To squat like Tom platz I’ve been doing it in my leg workout just straight up and down like piston in cylinder not leaning forward and I’m using only my quads and my friends are shocked how I’m a quad dominant squat
Great set of videos Dave, thanks for sharing them.
Ryan Jackson thanks Ryan
what's amazing to me is that most of the things he's saying he's repeated countless times but still puts great enthusiasm as if he's saying it for the first time. because to his audience, it's probably the first time they've heard it.
The Lenny of Quads
Dave- you are amazing!
Many many many thanks for this movies!
wow! thx. many more great ones coming... stay tuned..
D
The legend , thanx .
Love it, seeing legends like Tom still training and have such a passion for the sport. I am 45 and i will train all my life.
Love Tom Platz .living legend
Tom loves his sport so much.👌💪🏻👍🏻
Its mad to see him looking like that from what he once was
Look at Arnold, Lou ferrigno etc - it happened to all of them when they moved on to other things and stopped the gear. They still squat pretty well but it just shows the natural limitations.
He's a pro physically but mentally as well. Very well spoken. Forget his quads, I wish I had his knees. Just watching him squat with body weight makes me jealous.
Huge Personality - love him to bits.
Not one of the best legs! He had the best legs of the world!
I had a serious quad injury from a car accident a few years ago, back to squatting heavy thanks to this guys principles. Use the squat safety bar these days, but the same principles apply
met him in Reno in the 80s, awesome guy
This man is the worlds leading authority when it comes to a methodical movement like the SQUAT
These other fitness youtubers dont know squat like this man does he built the greatest legs in history.
Wow this is pure Gold! Thanks alot for providing this! Learned alot.
What a great guy and so honest and down to earth.
ironically I'm sitting in the back of a Mopar warehouse watching this video. hello from Mopar
Tommy Gains ha! Awesomeness
Platz is a true legend.
I'm so thankful I grew up during this time period.
Do still have it to. I’m so glad I watched you in person when I was 13-14 u we’re in your peak. I still today 40 years later ass to grass. I love the feeling when I come out of the hole. Push with all my quads. Glad your still at it.
This guy is a GENIUS...all those little things matter a lot...!!
Tom platz ,Mr, intensity ,total respect I've said a lot of derogatory stuff about steroids and I wish they would do it clean, but all respect to his hard work
really not a fan of bodybuilding, especially modern bodybuilding, but tom is definitely someone i look up to in terms of training
he had the best abbs in pumping iron movie when he did a mirror pose.
hes actually in great shape for a 62 yo, bet he will be able to squat with perfect form into his 80s
Sad that nobody was able to close the door, so we wouldn't get annoyed by the sound of the passing cars...
Ikr
my goodness, such an exciting interview and all of that hilarious noise... damn cars...
So glad to see he’s still healthy ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Toms in great shape for his 60s
I know people in their 70s that look a lot better than him. He actually looks old for 60s.
He may have had an illness - they are still human
Not sure why there seems to be a lot of people criticizing Tom? I think he looks great!
Great information from a legend!
Too bad Tom wasn't mic'd! Hard to hear him with the traffic.
what a legend , ur lucky guys !
i want to confirm his words about preparing your mind mode.... i do aikido and we have astance ... guard... and its very simple but how you are mentally makes it completely different.... also mentally helps posture and everything ni lifting... its not realy paranoid or superstition its about being ready
Legend
I love you training style💪👍💪
Super interesting guy to watch. I think some of his ideas are maybe old school bro science (i.e. stretching before squats) but on the whole he's a cool character with a holistic approach towards training.
Hard to imagine anybody better to give a squat clinic.
Much easier for a shorter individual to stay midfoot with the bar without compromising upper body angle. The golden eagle what a legend! Considered by many to have had the best legs in history. I agree.
Sage Tom now lives on the top of Santa Monica mountain handing out wisdom to climbers.
He still got it!!!
Why'd I think Tom Platz was dead? What a pleasure to watch!
Great series of videos on Tom Platz. Thank you very much. Where can we get a pair of his squat shoes?
You are welcome and, I have no idea. look on Google maybe.
You have some great info there Tom. I see your all about the shoes and they work for you. I have always done my squats and dead’s bare footed with no problems that I’m aware of. I’ve worked out with some strong guys doing the same. Guys repping out 350-400 15-20 reps. plus on both they too no shoes. I’m 53 you think it matters at this point. I’m only doing 300-350 1-15 reps
He still has crazy legs, damn!
Squat means tom platz 🔥🔥
tom looks like kurt Russell
n Mccray They have a similar voice too
AWESOME VIDEO.... 👍😎
Amazing man
He reminds me of surf guitarist Dick Dale. Both epitomize California.
what a great video, I thought I was squatting good until I saw this
respect
Love those pants!
it's mad he's lost all his muscle with age but he's still got huge quads
Weston Fridgway
I'm now 69 have good muscle tone and size but I don't know what happened to Tom?
He looks like he is broke and his condition isn't just aging.
A shame!
RF Johns You guys do realize that he was on steroids for a long time right? When u come off thebsauce you lose a lot of gain.
You get smaller than your actual genetic potential when you crash off that stuff.
He was never know for a big upper body even when he was in his peak condition.
He left bodybuilding for the corporate world so he stopped working out for like a decade. He is also not broke lol he just aint about flashing the money like he used to be. The man has 3 homes in Europe.
First class guy!
He sort of reminds me of the doc from back to the future
I met him years ago at a Gym just off Williams Street, Sydney. He was huge and a very nice guy... what surprises me is his loss of muscle mass, why has this happened he is less than half his previous size?
he stopped training for like a decade I think, went into the corporate world
He is 62 ! he doesn’t need to train for mass anymore , probably does more aerobic & fitness related training , just like Arnold . Still has that veiny , grainy forearm look for his age .
Nice guy
Platz would only squat once or twice a month
Dorian Yates only hit legs once or twice a month.
Moving massive amounts of weight also requires massive recovery.
The caveat is that Platz would still do a set of legs weekly. He would only squat and have his dedicated leg day once or twice a month. He still hit them regularly for maintenance/atrophy reasons.
Tom kinda looks like Kurt Russell these days. lol....... Cool dude. Great video.
them pants are on point Tom.
He and Rippetoe don't see eye to eye I guess.
PlutoTheGod Agreed. Rippetoe teaches the squat and other lifts exactly the same way regardless of individual anthropometry. Hence why there are a plethora of injured lifters on the starting strength forums.
haha thats exactly the tom platz move!
I'm sure Tom has been asked this question, but am wondering what he thinks about depth in the Squat; is it necessary to go "Ass to the Grass" to develop Quads?
What a legend- he looks great
I like a lot the tom.platz pants.....in mexico.dont have it
Sir Tom platz ,when are you going to come to London to open a shop to sell your foot wear gym clothes and belt and supplements ,come on sir tom platz sir .even opening a real gym in London the be so awesome .🇬🇧
When the Quadfather speaks you listen.
so no arching the back to stick butt out when mainly in bottom position ? is that what he advocates ?
Has anyone bought heel raised shoes?
❤🖤💯
hey kids you can actually learn something here. or you can keep taking gym selfies
Nathan Newman kid's you can learn that you will look like an average man again when you stop the steroids. Tom has a great personality, and is a great speaker as a steroid user, but his physique today proves that steroids gave him all his gains. Drug induced Bodybuilding is artificial. Nobody keeps their gains when they come off, fact.
However, you are completely disregarding the main point. Steroids are part of the sport everyone has access to them therefore its a level playing field. The mistake is you are being ignorant and disregarding all the effort that Mr.Platz has put in. You don't take steroids sit on a sofa and magically obtain the best legs in history. As current 6 time Mr Olympia Phil Heath and many other bodybuilders have said if there were no steroids those who are at the top would still be at the top.
Albert finney okey, spect cristiano ronaldo to run and play as well as he does now when he is 70.
duck _ Definitely because their genetics would allow them too!
never seen anyone taking Gym selfies .... too focused on my workout to notice other people
The Patriot
What happened to his right arm?
Mark Rippetoe has left the chat
Wow, just try squatting like Platz, my legs must be too stiff just can't get the position, like he says it takes years.
He looks around 105years old
Zen squatting
Mel Gibson's brother!...
Now, seriously. When I started bodybuilding in 1988 (with competing in mind), he was one of my idols.
To this day I think that end of 70s and the first half of 80s is the BEST TIME OF BODYBUILDING EVER.
And Tom Platz definately was part of it.
I watched videos and saw photographs of 1981 Mr Olympia contest and you know what?
It was as just as bad and controversial as 1980 one!
I think Tom Platz sould have won. Not Franco Columbu.
I'm not an IFBB judge but in my opinion the first 3 placings should be like:
1. Tom Platz
2. Danny Padilla
3. Franco Columbu (if not 4th)
Robert Steiner
1981
1. Platz or Padilla
3. Roy Callender
Franco deserved 5th or 6th
His gains were not loyal.....baby please
Hes not correcting butt wink on last dude and clear halfsquat from the black guy yet hes correcting powerlifti g style
سبحان العظيم القوة لله العزيز الحكيم اولنا ضعف واخرنا ضعف اللهم رزقنا الصحة وعافية اللهم صلي على سيدنا وحبيبنا سيدنا محمد عليه الصلات وسلام
SQUAT RACK BUILDS THE FOUNDATION FOR YOUR MOUNTAINS OF MUSCLES! AMEN.
Kurt Russell's Long lost Brother
Tom has a lot to say.
damn them pants are loud tom
I wonder if he tie-dyed those pants himself?
Mel Gibson?
Power is not equal to (force x distance)/time. Power = (force x displacement) / time. Distance is a scalar quantity, whereas displacement is a vector quantity.
Pro Skillz, Tom is correct about power. You are correct about distance being a scalar quantity. However, power is also a scalar quantity, it has no direction.
Power = work/time = dW/dt = d/dt (F•x)
= (force • distance)/time = F (dx/dt)
= force • speed = F•v
how can he say their form is good???
probably trying to be positive
