  • In this podcast episode, Dr. Sheva interviews Dr. Deniz, a clinical psychologist, on the impact of early childhood experiences and wounds on one’s adult relationships and experiences. They discuss how early invalidating experiences can lead us to feel disconnected within ourselves and the different ways that the disconnection may manifest, such as through people-pleasing tendencies, neglecting self-care, and uncertainty about one’s internal experiences. Dr. Deniz offers insightful tools, such as self-compassion and mindfulness practices, to help in increasing our awareness about our emotional experiences and connecting more deeply and authentically with ourselves. Dr. Deniz also shares the steps to get us started on reparenting ourselves and fulfilling our own needs in ways that are most beneficial to us, as well as what to do when we are responding from past pain in the present moment and ways to regularly attend to ourselves.
Dr. Deniz Ahmadinia is a licensed clinical psychologist with expertise in the areas of trauma, anxiety disorders, and mindfulness meditation. Her integration of evidence-based cognitive therapies with mindfulness and body-based approaches is rooted in understanding how the human nervous system is wired. Dr. Deniz is passionately curious about how we struggle, but more so about how we heal. She is also a wife and mom of two toddler boys.
