I’m convinced everyone saying it was “overhyped” Don’t understand what this movie just did. Cause, overhyped how? It blows so much out of the water in terms of complexity, World building, character writing, and themes. A movie like this being this successful and revered in this time is crazy. Nothing is doing what Dune is right now, so I don’t get it.
There just bitter there planned boycott once again failed
@@joeyvancleve4552 geez another one? For what? At some point they won’t be able to watch any movies or tv shows.
My partner is a love island, trash tv loving type of person. As casual of a viewer as they come. She actually didnt want to watch this movie but eventually caved and she loved it. I think the main thing she liked was the love story.
My girl friend and I along with some friends saw it last week in IMAX 1.43:1 dual laser on the biggest screen in my state. Unlike with Oppenheimer, my theater didn’t get a 15-70mm DUNE 2 release, but that’s okay because it was digitally scanned to print so the picture was the same. We’re going again this upcoming weekend with the same friends for a second watching in Dolby and taking some extra friends that didn’t go to the our first watch in IMAX. I’ve pretty much told as many people as I can to go see it. I was surprised to find out how many people in my circle didn’t see the 1st and didn’t know the second was out.
Austin butler was the best suitable villain…
Those stares were enough to convey message
You know a movie is amazing when the biggest flaw of the film is that it should have been longer. 🤣A+
I said the same shit they shoulda showed paul learning with the fremen more and planning all his attacks and more scenes of then defeating the emperor army
@dallazfn2289 Yeah, and Bautista not getting his ass kicked in 5 seconds.😂🤣🤣
Dune 2 is absolutely epic one of the best movie experiences I’ve had at the theaters in a long time epic seen it 3 times it is one of the best sequels I’ve ever seen in a long time and I’m not blowing smoke out of anybody’s butt!! What a fantastic remake the first one is and they completely blew it away with this one highly highly recommend it and it better be nominated for best picture Oscar next year
To be honest: It should have shocked the world with a 182 million opening. Everyone should see this movie. Its just too good to be true. I have not seen anything better since the lord of the rings by Peter Jackson. Dune 1 and 2 are fully underrated and deserve so much more.
The numbers are in the figures we have not seen since Matrix Reloaded and Return of the King. The Dark Knight only catered to certain genre, in particular superhero and comic fans. It's not the same as Dark Knight, Disney's Star Wars and Way of Water, etc.
Saw it yesterday in my town in France in dolby digital. We don't have Imax in west of France (they keep investing in Ice, 4DX and dolby tought), it was great. the last part was kind of rushed thought. Anyway, this is true cinema. It was way better than oppenheimer and miles away from all MCU DC Disney crap we are getting for the last decade. Thank you Denis
What was rushed I'm curious I do wish they would have showed then defeating the emperor armies more
That is one element. We only hear the battle behind closes doors. You are supposed to have the best army in the galaxy and they got their ass whopped by fremen in few screen minutes. Again remember epic battles from past movies and considering 1 movie + 2hours of second part build up...the end result is kind of rushed@@dallazfn2289
Here's hoping it gets Ridley Scott, Peter Jackson, Chris Nolan, Matt Reeves, Spielberg and many others scrambling to do something as impactful
Budget $190 million
Box office $182.5 million
ᑐᑌᑎᕮ
Its wipp prolly make 370 when it's all done maybe more anyway its big profit
Saw 4 times now. In 70mm, screen x Ultra Avx, Imax.
3 times in 2 days for me. Going to see it again in a few days
I saw it 4 times already, I think I'll be going back again this weekend 🤪
I saw Dune 2 a second time last night! Audiences can appreciate complex, deeper stories - we crave more than the same old derivative Marvel/DC blockbusters
I hope it makes all the money in the world 🙏🏼 everyone involved in this deserves a massive win
And some execs are currently like: "OK.......what sci fi book series have we not adapted yet? Get on that NOW!"
Remake John Carter. I've been saying it for years.
Yup, like I know Speaker for the Dead wouldn't be as big as Ender's game, but it would be a really cool movie to see on the big screen. ❤
The Answer is Katherine Kerr's Deverry cycle..
A man witnesses two people he cared for die because of a selfish decision he made and vows to make it right, the Gods of that world accept his vow and reincarnate the dead couple in different locations, ages and sexes and curse him with immortality to try to get those people their happiness and their fated union.
Show us filled with an amazing magic system but is gritty and shocking like the Song of Fire and Ice / Game of Thrones books
Thank you Legendary for bringing this film to life !! 😢👏🏿🔥
$50 million second weekend
I’ve seen it 3x’s and Im going to see it 2x’s this week.
I feel lucky that I've gotten to see both Godzilla -1 and Dune 2 in theaters in the last couple months!
What a combo right? Both such good films
Its been such a roller coaster. November was the underwhelming The Marvels…then the surprisingly amazing Godzilla-One in December but then the turd Madame Web in early Feb and a decade great film in Dune 2.
I convinced like 15 people from friends and family to see Dune Part 1 if they haven't already and go to the cinema to watch part 2, especially IMAX because watching this movie in a cinema cannot be compared to any other experience. Many few people told me it has been years since they have been in the cinema due to the streaming media abundance.
It is not just a sci-fi movie, it is first and foremost an epic cinematic experience, I think the Cleopatra and Ben-Hur comparisons in that regard are very on-point. And the fact that they made it for 190M while Marvels cost 270M should show Hollywood where the future path is.
I think Director Denis Villeneuve has generated a lot of good will for audiences and fans alike over the years. Whilst I have practically zero interest in the Dune Saga, I did very much enjoy his first Dune film and am eagerly awaiting seeing Part Two.
This movie was incredible, I adored the first one but this one was way better now that the exposition was out of the way. I wish we had more Florence Pugh, Austin Butler and Christopher Walken though. Can’t wait for the third
I've secured my iMax tickets to see it again... so excited! This film completely shifted my perspective. I used to think Star Wars was unbeatable, but after experiencing this, I'm absolutely blown away.
Best movie I've seen in theaters since Return of the King. I'm more excited to see it a 2nd time than I was the first. Holy toledo batman! What a freaking movie!!! 9.7/10 for me.
Just got back from my second imax viewing and it was even better the second time and is now My favorite film ever!!!!!
Five friends and I went on the weekend (I usually go with just one or two friends at most so that was an oddity) and yesterday I went with my brothers who didn't even watched the first one but were curious about the hype. I have to say I don't even do rewatches.
And two of my sixth friends that saw it with me, are going to go today and tomorrow respectively with family members and friends.
A craze like this I've only experienced with Barbie. I'm shocked and happy Dune it's having such an effect.
This movie is truly a triumph for Cinema. I was completely blown away and the last movie to do that for me was Mad Max Fury Road. I will be returning to see this one.
That’s funny you say this because that’s the movie I thought of as well.
This movie reminded me of mad max fury road, but for me, Avatar 2 really blew me away
Denis has taken me back to the theather since pandemic please see this in imax if u can. Holy crap that sound track.
If you can go to AMC see it in the Dolby theater. The sound and screen is definitely a cinematic experience
Saw it twice on Friday at my very small local cinema. I know, I know, I'm going up to Glasgow at the weekend to see it in IMAX. 👍
Prepare yourself for an overwhelming tactile experience. 😉
This shows how a realistic budget helps movies not to ruin their studios.
Let's hope the Avatar movies stay mega successful.
The Avatar movie are the most boring popcorn flicks i've seen in a while. The first was a technical show piece, but the story was very basic snd not good. The 2nd one had all this, but even worse. Cameron forget to write a decent story to his tech demos.
@@lupolinar If you don't understand them, that's your problem.
It keeps the tone of the original book…blending humor with sincere spectacle
Power over spice is Power over all.
I still can’t wrap my head around the budget of this movie. The spectacle of it all AND the Alist cast would warrant a 300mil budget EASILY. Bravo to the budget department/accountants
Well don't forget a lot of these ridiculous budgets have to do with reshoots from poor management and costs ramp up from delays in production and boor management. Half these movies budgets should have been nowhere near that high.
This is the quality of movie the Star Wars prequels should have delivered.
You can get rid of prequels and just say Star Wars should have delivered. Dune Pt 2 >>>>>>>>> the entire SW Saga.
@@tommyjames2448 , let's not go crazy. The original SW Trilogy is still better, but Dune is not far behind. There's still one more movie though, so let's revisit that statement then.
@michaelmalloy5447 How is that crazy? Outside of Empire, the OG trilogy has not aged well. Dune pt 2 is objectively a far superior film compared to any film in the SW saga.
@@tommyjames2448 , the stories are timeless and while the special effects aren’t up to todays standards, they still allow the viewers to suspend disbelief and be immersed in the story. We can agree to disagree.
@michaelmalloy5447 Dune has a better story than SW. Going story route is not a winning argument when comparing SW to Dune... come on now. There's not 1 part of any SW film that is better than Dune Part 2. For Dune the acting is better, the story is better, cinematography is worlds better, set/costume design is so much better (Dune will age very well), VFX isn't s fair comp both great for their time and the soundtrack is subjective. Either way you spin it, Empire is the only true great film in the entire SW saga, and Dune Part 2 is an objectively superior film to Empire Strikes Back.
I was looking for tickets this coming weekend at the Burbank AMC 16 for a third viewing, and tickets are already starting to sell out for IMAX and Dolby. Love it!
The sound design of Dune 2 is amazing
I saw Dune 2 back on Friday & loved every fiber of the film, a masterpiece from start to finish. Can't wait to see it again & again.
I saw it 3 times over the weekend, and now I look forward to next weekend to watch it again. Simply amazing movie almost infinitely rewatchable.
As much shit as we give WB. We absolutely have to give them their flowers here for taking a chance on this franchise
I bet dune part two will get Oscar nominations next year
Better than the MCU!
EVERYTHING is better then the MCU at this point
Man, I enjoy learning stuff from Robert Burnett. I find his points real interesting and will watch Dune this evening.
Oh man, great movie. The end was so intense.
MASTERPIECE 🔥
can’t believe it edged out Oppenheimer without the Barbenheimer hype !
I have seen it twice and have to drive 2 hours north to St Louis but doing it to see it in Imax next weekend. Earliest show that had tickets was 10:15pm
As someone who loved the books when they were younger, it's amazing seeing the story being presented in a way that respects the story . I think the 2nd movie is better than the first . I saw it in a smaller cinema , but will see it again in an IMAX (which I normally don't spend $$ on ) because the the quality of the filming/audio warrants it.
The worm riding scene was amazing in IMAX.
I thought Dune 1 was so boring. Is Dune 2 better? More action? I had no idea this was going to be more than one movie.
@@1BB22 imo dune 1 is the better film. I enjoyed the world building and how it developed the story, the tensions in the families and politics between the rival houses. dune 2 is a 3 hour cinematic experience, more action, grander set pieces. There's a lot missing from the story for my liking (the film needed to be a 10 part series to do it justice) I still REALLY enjoyed it though.
I'll eat a fucking shoe if this movie doesn't sweep the Oscars next year. It's been time for a genre film to rise, RISE.
last film really swept the oscars
If it doesn’t absolutely sweep the Oscar’s then that will be the nail in the coffin. There’s nothing coming out in the next 365 days that will be even better able to touch this movie
What kind of shoe do you like to eat
I dont know why people are talking of 1 billion only , the fact is people are already watching it for the 3rd time i havnt even seen it once . Whats important people want to watch it multiple times, this movie is likely to make more than a billion
No it won’t. It will stop at 800mille. Big fan here btw, but Dune is much to convoluted for the mainstream audience to appreciate the brilliance of Dune.
The 70mm screenings here in Berlin are almost booked out and even the normal screening is very full for days to come. (Correction: only one said 15/70 in their text, but both were just 70mm screening, with one an IMAX screen)
what theater berlin?
Super !!! Als weiter so !!! Keep on going like this !!! 👏🏼 ❤😊 such a GREAT MOVIE !! I doubt it’s gonna drop less than 50% at all..!! 😬😊☺️😍
@@dealerovski82 The IMAX UCI Luxe Mercedes Platz. But they made a listing error - when you booked the ticket it said "70mm" without the IMAX, so it was normal 70mm screening ob an IMAX screen.
@@lupolinar so not 1.43 AR, its 70mm 2.40 AR?
Easily the best movie I have ever seen in the theatre. That being said, once is quite enough for now.
Just saw it today and I think I’m gonna put this over the dark knight as my favorite movie of all time. I’m gonna go see it a few more times to be sure. This was an event! At no time did I have a hard time believing the universe being built. From the visuals to the story. Straight up amazing. The theater industry needed this movie so bad. Goes to show why they are still important. The impact would NOT have been the same at home
I tried to get a ticket for an IMAX showing, but literally every single showing for this movie was sold out the entire weekend. Good thing I got to go to a special fan screening the week before.
you know when a movie theater has faith that a movie is going to do extremely well when they're showtimes going all the way till 3:00 in the morning and it's halfway sold out got to see this movie barely in The Weeknd because so many times slots were sold out and it was excellent definitely worth the hype the third chapter is going to be insane and is definitely a movie that I recommend anybody whether you're a Sci-Fi fan or not to go and see
Frank Herbert's work is an incredible masterpiece. This movie adaptation is excellent. It is missing a number of things but come on. It's DUNE. You can't explore DUNE without reading the books.
Show them Paradise.
the screen writing is the greatest accomplishment. Very hard to make such a good screen play out of that book. But self evident now that we have seen it.
Hopped on AMC app to get a seat for Dune re-watch and the IMAX at my local AMC is already half full for Dune Saturday afternoon
Fenomenal movie! Awards due. Must see on big screen with body feeling sound track and effects. Wow! Perfect.
Going tomorrow for third time..Bless The Maker and his Work.
I've never seen a movie twice in theaters and I've been thinking about this movie so much I'm Goin again its going to be amazing I'm excited like I haven't seen it already that's how ik this movie is incredible
Helps that it had one of the best trailers I've ever seen.
I'm predicting a less than 30% drop off.
It's definitely thought-provoking which I love.
It made more than $182 million worldwide.
Basically made its budget back 😊
Not really. You still need to take into account the $80 million they spent on marketing it, and you have to take into account the 33% the theaters keep. So they’re still a ways off from making their budget back. But they will.
@@johncampea Oh no doubt about it. It was a great movie.
@@mattboesch8907
Doesn’t quite work thst way
Give it a couple, weeks, but it will get its budget back
Honestly looking forward to people wanting to make more non-super hero blockbusters. The burn out on them is real. Dune 2 was incredible. Straight up.
We were supposed to go Sunday, but couldn't make it, so were going next weekend. Can't wait!
IMAX seats are almost full already for this upcoming weekend in Dallas. Even during this week IMAX seats are pretty full. I think they might do around $50M its second week.
I’m hoping this sets the example of what people want to actually watch. This is escapism at its finest.
It was written. 😳
It was worth watching on IMAX screen.
Going to see Dune Part 2 on Friday in the cinema, wish I watched Part 1 in the cinema as I loved it. I’m very excited and dare I say this may be my favourite epic scale movie in a long long time.
A lot of people who were waiting to hear from their 'movie friends' on if its worth spending 3 hours in a theater.
Gladiator 2 is going to be terrible, and not at all what the modern audience is looking for.
Something they haven't seen before.
@@marcamusprime9513 I love the original Gladiator, so I hope the sequel is good. I'm definitely not confident however given that it is a movie that does not need a sequel & Ridley Scott's game has not exactly been strong these last few years.
@@ahorsewithnoname773 Exactly; nowhere to go but down, by trying to make it into another "Franchise."
@@marcamusprime9513 I like the cast that has been announced so far. That's my one ray of hope. But who knows, maybe it will get an amazing script & this will be Ridley Scott returning to old form. I certainly hope so, but beyond the cast there isn't a whole lot at the moment to inspire confidence.
it should reach a billion, but i highly doubt it'll reach barbie numbers. everyone and their grandmother saw barbie. dune just doesn't have that audience compared to something like barbie.
Proud to say that I never saw Barbie 😂
Unless it does more than 60 million in China it isn’t hitting a billion .
Unless dune 2 has amazing legs, it’s not doing a billion
Pirates of the Caribbean: at worlds end and Avatar: The way of water are the only $300million+ movies I’ve seen where I felt that the money was all there on screen and justified that kind of budget
I would probably add The Force Awakens in there too - seriously one of the best looking films made in the last few decades
@@GeekyMedia There’s something about the look of the Force Awakens and the rest of the sequels I never fully liked I always felt they looked like MCU films with a Star Wars filter. Rogue One on the other hand looked absolutely stunning.
I think the dropoff could come when ghostbusters or godzilla x kong drops, but Dune 2 is so good, I wouldn't be surprised if it has longevity well into april
Didn’t know you were from the IE John! Gonna see it in 70mm IMAX for a second time at Irvine spectrum center ✊🏻
All I know is that I saw it alone twice this past weekend and will be seeing it with all my friends next weekend
Hands down best movie ever made
Agreed 🤝!!!!
Can’t go that far but it’s one of the best
After 1 viewing it's in my top 10 and the best movie of the last 20 years.
@@flyguy7825I said this after a first screening, after two more it’s definitely in my top five
For context, I’m a film snob, seen thousands, seen plenty by the greats, Kurosawa, Fellini, Bergman, Godard, Fassbinder, etc.
Dune Part Two is something insanely special, feels like an arthouse film with a blockbuster budget
@@danielplainview2584 Oh I agree. It's a very very good movie. One of the best movies I've seen in a long time, but I can't say it's hands down the best movie ever. The way you stated was as if that was a fact that may be your opinion which you are entitled to and I can't disagree with it. I just don't think it's the hands down the best movie ever to be made
I have only seen it one thus far on Dolby Digital, I want to see it in IMAX next.
Saw it at a true IMAX and it's an incredible event.
What does true imax mean ?
@@emanuelsosa8 like the AMC ones. Often called "Liemax". Saw it on a 66ft by 89ft screen with dual Lazer projection and IMAX branded sound system. Absolutely blew every Liemax I ever been to out of the water 10 fold.
Fast X budget probably includes huge paydays to their stars. I doubt those in Dune got paid as much as the cast in Fast X
I heard: Harkonnen* back to the old age. 😂
I wanna go back this week maybe third and forth 😂
Only movie I saw twice since dark Knight
Dune: Part 2 was a very good movie. 4/5 Stars. Would recommend.
For the last month every cable network under WB has been showing Dune regularly. Even cartoon network. I could help but think that's something of an apology tour as well as getting everyone hyped for pt2.
I think it's gonna have a strong hold... I've seen it 3 times now but I've yet to see it in IMAX because to get a good seat at a time I could go I had to go out two weekends... IMO this movie is an instant classic just like the first one
Grandfather Worm Is Happy
AMC Tyler Galleria? John you live in the same city as me!
Loved this movie!
Surround sound is key to this film
I have to wait to see it on March 11th because imax is sold out of everything but the front row in my area
U have to see it in back up high my theater has the back on slope so yur literally in the middle of the screen
Why is it just now that I'm realizing that John Campea and Tim Heidecker have the exact same voice!!!
Whenever I hear a dune 2 review that says I haven't seen a good movie in a while I question whether they saw Godzilla -1? Because honestly I think it was better even though dune part 2 was good.
I think it’s because a lot of people missed Godzilla Minus One since it wasn’t originally released here and some people figured it would be just another generic cheesy Godzilla film. I actually am a massive sci fi fan and didnt realize it was so positively received both by audiences and critics until recently I just figured it was going to be another generic monster movie that was fun for the action but not really of substance I’m excited to watch it soon now
call me creazy but it can actually be equal or better in the 2nd week
Agreed I don't think the box office drop will be that big. This movie has got the rewatchability element to it. People want to watch the move again and again.
@inghell I think word of mouth is going to carry for a few week and be one of those were people will shame you for not watching it. Already did it to 2 of me friends going back Satuday.
Saw Dune this weekend, I wish it was a little longer. Was better than first movie, definitely more emotional and also action packed than the first. Best movie in years.
But... I wish it was on streaming already so I can watch at home tonight and tomorrow night and the next. I have watched the first one at least 10 times.
I wish we could get extended versions of these films, but I doubt Denis will ever make an extended version.
screw effing streaming.... buy the bluray or 4K when they come out then the studios can justify more of it. then you OWN a copy of it.. its YOURS you aren't renting it like with streaming and there is ZERO LAG in a blu ray
Ghostbusters comes out in a few weeks too.
I think people are gonna watch this heavy film and then immediately go watch king fu panda 4 to decompress.
@9:00 with streaming triumphing. New filmakers dont get these opportunities to sadly. the future of film will drastically changed. without mid range movies, its going to be harder for indie movie makers to survive and progress onto bigger things.
Seems to me that now they will be progressing onto streaming platforms and min series.
See the movie for a second time next week
Dune will actually double its opening weekend earnings in the second weekend...
Still 9.0 on Imdb:)
Im at least seeing it 4 times!
Disney will never be able to make a film like this for any kind of money.
Very true and worst thing is they dragged Pixar down to their level.
disney peaked in the mid 90s and it will never get back to where it was
Disney is behind Shogun and that’s just as good as this
They could , but they WON"T
If Disney done this movie : the Emperor will be Gay and Vladimir Harkonnen will be trans
