    It would’ve been nice if we could’ve heard from Jordan regarding the lack of stabilization. It may not matter much for photos but video is a different animal. Even wide angle lenses would greatly benefit from VC, specially when shooting hand held. This is why we need to hear from Jordan more. Stop hogging the limelight, Chris. Jor-Dan! Jor-Dan! Jor-Dan!

    Just bit the bullet and bought a slightly used tamron 11-20. After much deliberation. Was considering the sony 10to18 and samyang 12 prime. The tokina as well but it didnt have oss or weather sealing. With the tamron weather seal, better optics, and 2.8 helped me make the decision. The tamron 17 to 70 Was a huge difference on my a6000 as my sony lenses were underperforming in the blue and golden light times of day with slower apertures. These tamron lenses really brought a higher performance level to my a6000. The only lenses i have now are the tamron 11-20, tamron 17 -70 and sony g 70 to 350.

    You guys are super courteous so I'll say it for you: when it comes to transmission, sharpness center to corner, and resolution: the 10-18 is not even close competition. The 11-20 f/2.8 dances circles (perhaps with onion rings) around it. The differences are so stark, you can see it on an A6000 screen, let alone in post. Stabilization is nice but if the picture quality can't match, either way...

      the issue with this lens is price, it's not that much cheaper than 10-24 wr, not to mention older version at the same price (plus even cheaper used), and f/4 not that considerably slower, and on top of all image stabilization
      I'd much prefer 70-180 f/2.8 (or even 200), fuji doesn't have anything like that sadly (only more expensive 50-140, and to my use the telephoto reach wasn't enough at all), but again, the competitor here is their 70-300, slower again, but with much higher reach and most importantly for much less cost

    • @DavidHodginsPhotography
      @DavidHodginsPhotography Před 3 lety

      Absolutely! At $200 Cdn cheaper than the Fuji, anyone who plans to use this on a tripod doesn't care about OIS (not to mention the bodies that are now getting IBIS), and there is a significant market of folks that won't buy used. Especially given Tamron's 10-year warranty. The 17-70 will be a much harder sell, since the lens alone is the same price as the 16-80, and yes, you get a stop of light with the Tamron, but the 16-80 is a bundled lens, and that price makes it far more compelling.

    for example the 70-300 RXD which is much cheaper then the fuji version. Or the 17-70mm F2.8
    The XF 10-24mm is a better lens then the Sony and has an update WR version too. (i have the original one)
    Also in terms of price there isn't much in it. And optically both are stellar.

    i'm just gonna say i am very dissapointed with DPReview. not you two, but the page, why? well after buying a sony rx100 VA i realized when comparing jpgs to the ones of the V in the sample image gallery, that these guys tend to turn on noise reduction, which heavily hits image quality, detail and sharpness, i really had my doubts on the camera because at high isos it looked like freaking phone image quality- gladly the jpgs of jared's review on the iV hinted me more closely to the true quality of these cameras.
    idk you, but i love a lot more to have a kinda grainy (i do have limits) image where i can still see detail, sharpness and quality than one that lacks noise, and those other three aswell, like, im getting a camera not to get the results as a phone right? then why even keep having a sample gallery with images that have applied noise reduction- it just looks as soft as a phone...
    i really dont know if they keep doing this, but i really hope not in any case...
