I'd disagree on Echoing Shade here. Most people don't see it's utility, specially in PvE, as the clones use primary attack too, can be buffed (Necro lightning chest picks them too, for example) with essences/skills too, amplifying it further and also, and specially on classes like Wizard that you like to play a lot, the clones actually can distract even bosses. Yeah, they can die too, but as I said, they can be buffed, like shielded too, and their primary attacks are similar to yours, so in essence, you'll deal up to 4x primary attack when with it at rank 7 (with all 3 clones up), rank 3 already brings up 2 clones, so 3x.
Plus, Gloomcask is very good, but only on builds and classes that has, like, 80% focus on primary attacks, by either using vithu and/or shaalbas, or other PRIMARY attack speed buffs (Reforge, atributes, etc). And since you don't play much other classes, specially melee like Monks/barbs or DH (who can maximize the gem now with the strafe using primary attacks in fast repetitions), unless you mix in the primary attack speed in the builds, it'll deal less damage in the long rung, than the disintegrate shoulder pet, which is one of the top DPS right now.
Gloomcask is more 'limited' than Echoing shade imo, and you had it at R5, 5/5.
Another thing, which was the worst, at the time you actually destroyed it, there were already the gem powder extraction system, you'd only need +32 gem powder on whichever gem you'd use all the rest extracted. It's actually difficult NOW to get the gem you WANT, without spending THAT much in the game. If you spend, then yeah, just convert orb into platinum or whatever and grab the cheap copies on market, but from a (very) low spender PoV, better to stick with the upgraded gems, I have a R4 Phoenix, that I extracted, and even as auxiliary, it's shield is better than most stuff around, provided you have cheat deaths.
I finally could buy a 3 start BSJ for 77000 plat from selling my pets (took weeks..), I never saw it on my server under 70k or when it was it was hunted down by 10 people min. Two days later after I bought last week there were 2 more popping up for 60k then today for 42k.. all of them were available for hours.. This market is as volatile as the crypto market I swear! :D

Also… I would have waited to get at least a 4*….. 3* are practically a 2* imo. You can raise the star rating but only on your next upgrade

I just breached 4k after two years as f2p. It's impossible to progress any further because of the market. I'm stuck now with no plat, gems I can't sell, and a ton of gems at ridiculous prices I would love to buy. (I spent my last remaining plat to buy a starfire at 16k! wth) Without a healthy market, I think this game is doomed. I can't progress anymore, so why would I play.
No. The game is doomed when you were able to hit 4k as F2P. Think about it.

Upgrading Echoing shade was a mistake, the gem is bad now. I should of focusing on something else. My current setup is much stronger but got here after many mistakes that costed me.
EDIT: also I replace echoing shade with roiling.

Dont limit yourself to 5k that what i said when i got to 5k. Now im targeting 8k i was only going to 6k but i thought why limit myself again to a target. Now im 6k but have not equip it still playing at 4k with 7k armor pen. Once i get to 7k ill drop the 3 /2* gem setup

If his bile rank 3 or 4 yes, now? That wouldnt a wise decision coz the gems already eats way too many copy, and in this game copy gems are the expensive one
If you really don’t want to keep making the same mistakes, why not make gems dormant? I saw that viewers were advising you of this since you were thinking of destroying your bottled hope for gem power.
Especially if you’re finally satisfied with 5k reso, the amount of additional reso you can get from destroying a gem vs making it dormant is practically insignificant at 5k+. And you never know when your opinion will change, based on either rethinking or changing preferences, or game changes. Plus, you can now socket a lot of gems inside other gems now that you can easily get all slots awakened.
Of the gems you mentioned destroying:
1) phoenix ashes is bad in general because of the cooldown, but can be good in vault or other permanent death PvP modes, where the cooldown is irrelevant.
2) frozen heart and chip of stone flesh are both top 8 for the types of pvp builds you tend to play imho.
3) echoing shade is far from bad. In every pve summon build, auroth mentions it’s one of his highest damage sources. Now you’ve played tempest, a class with 3 summons in every build, and echoing shade could take that to 6, allowing you to max the bonus of 4 shepherds. Lots of summons (plus high attack speed) are especially good in dot purge builds (eg crusader and necro dps metas) when running with a crusader with fire banner, as they ensure that the dot is reapplied before every hit. Even without a dot purge build, more summons will melt bosses when running with a fire banner crusader.
I have gone increasingly towards auroth’s preference for versatility. I got my 5k wings a long time ago, but am much more effective running around 4k reso with a more optimal gem selection (including select 1 and 2 stars) for the particular class and build I’m playing at the moment. I have several 5 stars dormant at any given time, and just got a 5/5 echoing shade I’m excited to rank up and use for any pve summon build.
PS I’m not trying to bash on you. I have used and benefited from multiple of your wizard builds, and I think you’re the top DI wizard content creator atm. I simply can’t bear to watch your videos where you destroy perfectly good 5 star gems that you could make dormant instead, so I thought I’d offer my opinion and advice. Cheers, and keep making great build videos.
Pps I know I haven’t uploaded in ages, and my only current video is my movement speed one. I’m looking forward to the crunching of daily and weekly tasks I’ve been hearing about. Hopefully that’ll make it easier for me to make time for more videos.

Well the "problem" you have is the cost of duplicates used for upgrading gems. This applies to all gems.
The other problem is you are a whale and you spend without considering the consequences.
The third problem is different gems are used for different classes and different builds a d there is no cost effective mechanic to recover the cost of duplicates used to upgrade and abandoned gem.
As a low spender the strategy is very different.
Its the first time someone called me whale lol. Whales start from 6-7k reso and above now.

@Sabee955 although anyone can make a mistake, the magnitude of the mistake is directly proportional to the $$ spent. Because of the sheer cost of 5 star duplicates it is highly unlikely for a low spender to have made this particular mistake or if they did it was then rapidly resolved.
