Dieselgate: How the Auto Industry Lied to Us All | The Volkswagen Emissions Scandal Documentary

  • It’s the biggest scandal in German industrial history: For more than ten years, automobile manufacturers and suppliers working for lots of different companies lied to consumers and authorities by deliberately manipulating the exhaust emissions of their vehicles. With catastrophic consequences: Almost 20 million car owners worldwide were cheated. The reputation of Germany’s car industry is ruined. And the consequences for human health and the environment are immense. In this investigative documentary, industry insiders reveal that this is the logical consequence of a culture of profit maximization at the expense of morality, decency and legality.
The background of the diesel scandal - how Germany’s carmakers and their suppliers deliberately developed illegal defeat devices, exploited legal loopholes and lied to consumers and control authorities for decades - is breath-taking. The main protagonists of our film are whistle-blowers fighting against powerful car bosses. An ex-engineer, an ex-manager, a lawyer - they all break their silence for the first time in front of the camera to reveal the criminal activities in Germany’s car industry.
We closely follow our protagonists and accompany them in their often very personal fight against injustice and cover-ups. The film concentrates on their personal accounts and interweaves news reports and official statements, and thus exposes the discrepancy between what we were lead to believe and what really happened.
This documentary was produced by A&O Buero and directed by Johan von Mirbach . It was first released in 2020.

Electric car aren't zero emissions, they are zero exhaust pipe emissions. There are still emissions from brakes and tyres, look for PM 2.5 emissions.

It's a documentary from 2017 uploaded 2023. I'm sure 5 years ago it would have a lot more views

At 21:18h, the translation should be changed from petrol to diesel…
NOx is a pure diesel issue, and the documentary is about Dieselgate.
Whoever translated that bit, slept through the whole piece and apparently did not understand the subject to be translated.
(Yes „essence“ means fuel of all kinds, but still…)
Plus, there is no mention in the whole, otherwise good documentary, that there is a viable solution since at least since 2004, a SCR catalyst with DEF/AdBlue that has already long been proven effective in Diesel trucks where there is no power trade off but a 6% fuel efficiency benefit, but wasn’t implemented in cars for lower production cost.

It wasn't "the auto industry", it was EU car manufacturers.

VW solicitor told me the website statements on the Cupra EV charging were a “range” of performance only. Not that it said that! I replied that it is never in the range. No reply. VW just blank you. Off to Court we go

I agree and maybe to expand on diesel gate as far as how reliable these cars were. You could easily get 300K-500k mi out of one of these engines. Meanwhile the current crop of vehicle has major failures between 60k to 100k miles with catastrophic failures in the drive line as well. Overly complicated supply chains etc meanwhile I'm supposed to believe that these cars were the worst thing in the world for the environment but throwing vehicles away like Kleenex is good for the environment? People are pretty gullible I got to tell you😅

Give me a break. The only mining children do is Cobald. 80% from Cobald imports are from mines that have western working conditions so no child Labour. Besides that I highly doubt you would care about that if it were for your phone, clothes etc. Btw Cobald isn’t even gonna be needed anymore in 3-4 years

If Volkswagen was smart, they’d take all those cars sitting in parking lots and sell them in third world countries 😂. At least it would help offset the billions in fines they still have to pay.
