'no money in the budget' oh c'mon Sopranos at that time was top tier entertainment. i'm sure HBO had plenty of cash to pay Phil "Twenty Years In the Can" Leotardo. cheap bastards. IIRC James had to pull his weight to get the rest of the cast somewhat respectable pay for their work on the show. human greed is so sad, ruins so many things, like the entire US Government.
I complete agree. You hear Federico say that it’s all about “dollars and cents”. Seems like they didn’t want to pay Federico to stay on, they wanted to give Frank Vincent more screen time
honestly Furio picked the best moment to go back home. the DeMeio family started to crash and burn in seasons 5 and 6. maybe Furio could have prevented some of the problems but idk, i'd hate to see Furio get whacked by NY. but Furio is such a badass who knows maybe there could be a scene where he takes out like 3 or 4 hitmen who are sent after him or something. and i always thought it was funny Tony trying to act like the big man saying he was people looking for Furio and he's a dead men. no way. Furio is well respected in the Italian family and no way would they kill him for Tony Soprano.
The Sopranos had so many great characters and among them Furio got to shine. Totally believable as the zip from the other side. If I had a dollar for every time I said “stupida fukin game” I’d have a nice stack by now.
I'M SO GLAD YOU BROUGHT THIS UP! I always wondered why it was such a sharp turn and then he was totally gone. Didn't make sense for such a good part of the show.
Nothing but respect for Vince Curatola and the incredible job he did as Johnny Sack, but Frank Vincent really knocked it out of the park as Uncle Philly. I remember when they first brought him in and I was like "wow..........this typecast guy?", but he did such an amazing job it was legendary. Buon Anima Frank Vincent.
And a much better addition than Buscemi. Love Buscemi but there was an oddball element to him being on the show. Vincent in spite of his movie history managed to blend in and be much more believable.
His name is backdoor man. When Tony leaves through the front. Furio creeps in through the back door and steals that vsginamof Carmella. AND her backdoor. So it has a double meaning.
Furio was one of my favorite characters easily. Also the book he mentions, The Family Corleone, is really good. I had no idea he was related to Edie Falco!
Furio (along with Phil Leotardo) felt like the most authentic mobster in Sopranos. Even the ponytail suited perfectly to his Italian style and gave a nice contrast to a more conservative look of the American mob (who seems to be more conservative in many ways than the original Sicilian and Italian mafia who are even more violent and crazier)
Although I found this out a while ago- I was shocked to find out that in real life the Actor didn't speak English with a thick Italian Accent, and was actually an Artist in real life.
At least Johnny Sac got a proper and definitive send off. I'm sure Furio just went right back to working for Analissa, Tony didn't have any real leverage over there to have him killed and they could just tell Tony they're looking for him. Posturing to Carmela. He never called Italy to order Furios murder.
I just finished the Sopranos and was hoping they'd pull Furio back in when the Sopranos needed to wack some New Yorkers. Instead they hired some unknown Italians who killed the wrong guys and just made it worse.
He was the most dangerous one in the family and in America that is intimidating. He woulda been gone anyway. Or sent on a crazy mission like the job of making money on strangers turf ex. If you’re jersey. They woulda brokered a deal after sending him to New York or Florida so they could open shop. He’s 1. From the old country and made on that side 2. A made guy you can’t just clip because it’s Jersey. Jersey is not for nothing. They’re more respected than Florida or Chicago. They carry weight even with the shit of being called farmers or a crew on stilts. Either way he’s not gonna be in the mainline. That’s why he was a purchase in exchange for some car sales. Normal shit for THEM.
This is insane that the character was only written off due to money. This show is just too good for it to be compromised like that. Don’t get me wrong, the way he left the show was perfect.
Its all over red it he was thrown off the set by Chase himself for leaking scripts to Victoria Gotti and was subsequently written off the show. This was posted on red-it by people supposedly on the set.
He was revealing script secrets to his girlfriend at the time who was working for a gossip column. No other reason to get rid of a popular major character.
Instead of aging, Furio just turns into Mustang Sal.
I see that 😂

Out of all the characters on the show, Furio is the one I felt was let go way too soon.
He never got a big send-off. We didn't even see him get on the plane to leave. He was just gone.

Furio was wonderfully modeled. Just fantastic acting. From quiet and polite to rage- what a badass.
i was about to say the same thing. he was wonderfully written as "the quiet guy" in the room.
He was so good as furio that I actually thought they hired a real Italian actor to play him.
Me too. Though sometimes I would wonder how his English was a bit too good at times.
Furio was perfect! One of the best soprano characters on the show ! So realistic.

You’re right!
Yeah no way would Italy take him out. His cousin is the boss in Italy too
Tony had her chances to became relevant in that family he choose not to have when he rejected the offer of that lady in that place …

I met Frederico. He is such a kind and personable guy. Once he found out I was born in Passaic, he talked to me as if I was a long-time acquaintance.
