- After an entire month with this device I'm finally ready to tell you what I really feel about it. This was a handheld I was really excited for when it was first rumored and I was one of the first in line to buy it. After spending a considerable amount of time with it and doing everything I could possibly do with this handheld, I can confidently tell you the RG35XX Plus is probably one of the handhelds ever created.

Hey guys 👋🏽 Anbernic has since updated their software a lot since this review. Theres alot more features now like music player, video player, ebook reader, file manager, and quick shutdown. As well as this theyve same strides to remove many bugs and add support for other systems that were missing before. It's really amazing and Anbernic has come a long way with their software. I got mine for Christmas and it also has the light bleeding issue, but mine is on the left side. I was curious if other people had the same problem because I haven't seen it mentioned in other reviews. Definitely annoying but I only really notice it in dark rooms. Very worth it for what this handheld does and the price! I was upgrading from an RG351P and my RG35XX+ has completely replaced that one. The only thing I don't use it for is TV consoles; I use my tablet and an 8bitdo controller for those.
Can't wait to get my hands on mine. It's stuck in shipping limbo lol. I got the DMG colored one, but the more I watch videos from you, I kinda wish I got the white. I'll lock myself in when it arrives 😂Definitely looking forward to CFW in the coming months.

You deserve more cred for these reviews. A bit unpolished in the presentation (little bgm would go a long way) but your enthusiasm and professionalism speaks volumes.

Great vids Javi. Would love your comparison between the RG35XX Plus and the RGB30. Seems those are the kings of PS1 and prior right now. I'm rocking an RG Nano everywhere I go and the RGB30 when I'm expecting longer play sessions, love the combo. Feels like a great time for handheld emulation in general!
You can play NDS and N64 games well on the original RG35XX using Koriki OS which is very pleasing to the eye. PSP work with some tweaks too. Dreamcast also possible but haven't tried. Love the channel btw!

Really enjoyed the review and walk through step by step to set it up. Hopefully a new custom firmware comes out soon. Some emulators frame rate is bad. Sfc and Turbogfx is off as well and the screen size is off. For now I only use Retroarch. Hopefully we can just update over wifi also.
I've emailed Anbernic and asked if they plan to make the updates via WIFI and it's a no .

Me and the gf have had ours now a couple of days, thx to your reviews, my mrs seems to have a problem tho with random crashes on games and changing hotkeys in the rom so pressing "B" takes a screenshot or something haha, i'm gonna re-try everything again from the 2 card setup vid and see if that helps! good review tho and ty for your previous vids
what a nice video... i bought a nintendo switch recently.... the games of the god damn thing is so expensive that i looked into this item as something that I may want to have on top of the switch... I think I should consider buying this one after a few more months so that they can put in more updates... would really appreciate news from you regarding this one after a few more months.

I just got mine yesterday in the mail and realized there’s zero mario games and there’s no n64 system/games either. I have the 64gb/128gb option for the Rg35xx+. I was wondering if you were going to make a video on how to get the n64 system/games & Mario games or if there’s a quick way to install them. I think well have to wait a little to get a video player on it. Don't worry a lot of CFW is in the works right now. Any day now we'll be in a much better place software wise.

Brother next time you lift the battery use a plastic bit or a card, the steel end on screwdriver can puncture the battery and can be risky. Lovely video

Does the stock OS support a dual SD card setup? Would love to keep my games and saves separate to the OS SD to allow easy firmware updates.
Wondering how is the SD card that came with the handset performing after having heard some feedback about it being unstable? is it necessary to change it to a known brand such as Sandisk?
If I am looking for a device mainly for GB and GBA games, this can do way more. would you still recommend it or is for just gameboy purposes maybe a better price to performance ratio with a cheaper thing possible?

A few questions, hope u can help me out..bought this with 64Gb + 128Gb micro sd..the 64Gb gave out yesterday, and i bought and new 32Gb and a new 128Gb micro sd with a more respectable brand..did the 32Gb thingy for the firmware, following ur guide A to Z..
now for the new 128Gb, should i just copy and paste from the old one to the new one all of the folders like bios, roms etc inside the old one??

I heard the new update, has errors with showing how charged it is, after 5 min it shows that the battery is on 90% and it has similar bugs related to the battery. Did you notice anithing like this?

Yeah, man. Theres so many people who are going to receive this device and probably never update it and not know what wrong with their device. Anbernic is very wrong for this.
I love the look of vertical devices like the RG35XX and Miyoo Mini Plus, but I need a joystick to reduce wear on my thumb... so I got a RG35XX-H for $51. Hoping it'll be ergonomic enough.

I have a few questions regarding the features RG35xxplus. I have seen a couple of video’s where they talk about the not so perfect HDMI out and how you need to disconnect between each game. Is that still the case? Also, I hope BT audio will be available one day. Any info around that? Finally I want to know if multiplayer is posdible with 2 BT controllers. Thank you!
You dont need to disconnect between games. Only thing is it requires some setup to work well. By default, the image is stretched. Ans the Bluetooth contorllrr need to configured to also be player 1 so you can play wirelessly. Check out my tutorial on my channel
Regarding the Bluetooth audio. I spoke to Anbernic about it, and they said themselves that the chip inside the handheld is capable of bluetooth audio, but they just haven't been able to implement it yet. It is probably something to do with linux drivers, most likely.
And yes, you can do multiplayer with multiple bluetooth controllers. Anbernic actually demos this in their promo for this handheld.

Ive recently received mine and in general it's great, but the audio from the headphone jack is awful. Not sure this is an issue with my unit or in general? Bluetooth also not working for headphones. Finally Bluetooth connection for ps5 controller is also very poor. Would be interested to get community comments on the above, to determine if it's just my unit or not?

yes it does !
Yes it does. Navigate into retroarch settings. (RA Game) and youll find an option to enable retro achievement. You can see me get an achievement in this video.
I'm really interested in this. Question for you, can it play Saturn games? How durable would you say it is? I'm really curious, I might get one.
I haven't tried it personally (mine is still a few days away), but from the specs it should run some Saturn games, but with occasional frame skipping, etc. It won't run the more demanding titles.
I’m totally new to this and I got my rg35xx plus yesterday. So happy with it problem is everywhere I keep reading the sad cards should be replaced problem is I don’t have a clue how to do that! I only have a m2 Mac mini but every review is for windows or a different os but all I want to do I copy the data over to a new 128gb card. Pls can you help where I need to start? I’ve never done anything like this, I don’t even know how to use the sd reader I got lol so any videos you could link me would be amazing.

Thinking in getting the + model but dont know if the H is "better" (i like more the vertical but dont know if is gonna be comfortable for my medium hands)
Heres a couple of things to think about. Horizontal handhelds, in general, are more comfortable. Also, H has joysticks. The Plus is more pocketable. Also, the shoulder buttons on the Plus sound way better, on the H the shoulder buttons are loud and annoying to me. Also the menu button on the Plus is in the perfect position where on the H it is located at the top next to the shoulder button and it is borderline unusable. Also you have an accessible battery compartment on the Plus where on the H we dont. So with all this in mind. You can decide for yourself what is important to you. Hope this helps! Happy Gaming!

@@JaviPlayRetro thanks for the reply. I was looking the prices and the H is not looking that interesting, so I'll try to invest a little more and grab a retroid 2S (best price for a good first handheld) and get a OG XX as a daily.
Only problem now is getting the money for that hahahahahahaha (crying in Brazilian taxes and 5:1 dollar conversion)
@juniorbarranqueiro Yeah, absolutely get the Retroid if you have Retroid money. You'll have a better experience overall. Retroid > Anbernic everyday of the week.

I see you can favorite games in your setup, but it sounds like you had to do something to customize the interface? I want to buy this for an older relative who loves retro games, but I need to be able to simplify the setup. They won't play it if they see like 6000 games to scroll through.
Javi i had a question. I’m playing a rom hack on my RG35XX+ and in retro arch I removed onscreen notifications and when I hit the ff hotkey and left on pad. It gives me a notification “State slot:0” everytime. How can I fix this?

Javi, I have a serious trouble with my unit. Whenever I search something and hit OK. The list appears normally. But when I scroll down the screen goes blank. And it takes a minute and then the device reboots.
It's happening everytime.

Yes I do. I actually show it off in another video. It has a custom launcher on it any evrrything. I have a special controller I use with it as well. Its really cool.

Mate please make a video about how to add missing consoles, if that's even possible. For example I saw there is a Lynx emulator in it but I couldn't manage to make it appear.
RA Games allows for alot more settings and tweaks. You can do overlays, filters, colorizations. You can do cheats. You can do retro achievements. You can change controls. Alot of handy important things.

does it get warm when playing nds? if you compare it when playing ps1 games vs playing nds, which of those 2 consoles make the device warmer?
It doesn’t rly get warm at all,, only slightly after an hr or more. the consoles it runs r not that demanding and runs even psp games all smooth
Not really ds isnt that intensive. I've haven't really notice my handheld get hot even playing Dreamcast upscaled to native resolution.
Maybe you can help me, my roms keep deleting. I play with it couple of times turn it off and then try and play it again my rom files are just gone. I add them again and same thing happens, what would you recommend to fix this issue.
Thats really odd. Give me some more information. What firmware version are you on? What systems are you playing that you're experiencing this issue? Also how are you shutting down?
So the firmware im using is v1.20231108 and the I've used so far pretty much all of them mainly nes,Ps, and I shut it down either hard button or in menu.

It would come with more games however I would never recommend it because the sd card they give you are really cheap and bad and will likely fail on you. Its always better to get your own sd card and load it with your own games.

Yeah, just go get those games online. Use a search engine and type whatever console you want, for example. Gameboy advance archive. You should find a bunch of site hosting games you can download from. Get the Mario ones you are interested in playing and then put your sd card on your computer. You'll see a roms folder there. Inside that roms folder, you'll have folders for each of your systems. Just put the games in there. In this example, the game maybe Super Mario Advance .gba. Just put that game inside the folder labeled GBA. After placing it in there safely eject the sd card and put it in your console and you should be good to go.

Really fancy one of these but EVERYONE says to put your own roms on and don’t get it if you can’t but I ain’t technically savi so I haven’t got a clue how to do all that. Is it really that big of an issue? Would love the feedback if anyone knows
There's a really good set of games you can easily download called Tiny Best Set Go! That's what I recommend you go get and follow one of my guides on putting the stock os on better sd cards. That's kind of a requirement with these devices

I'm still waiting for a version of this firmware that allows expanding of the roms partition. that way we can use any size SD card. If I made a tutorial now it would be strictly limited 64GB SD cards

RA lets you change settings. game roms stick settings
Can you trade Pokémon to evolve the ones that only evolve through trading with another device?
No. However there are work arounds. You can either play a rom hack that allow you to evolve those trade Pokémon normally at a level or you can just cheat them in like me :).

Its possible. I would ask the seller you buy from what firmware will come preloaded. Hopefully the updated.

Copy the content of stock sd card to laptop, the sd card coming with rg35 is bad quality, buy a new 128 and flash it. Javi has made a good tutorial

I would like some advice I bought the rg35xx plus for my son.
He want to have is dream team on Pokemon crystal directly at the start.
I tried to activate cheats on stock os with retroarch but it doesn’t seems to work.
Does anyone know how to proceed and can explain to me or send me a guide link.
I tried to check on the sd the file retroarch it doesn’t appear even with secret files activated.

Some advice for cheats. Cheats are version specific, so make sure you're on the correct version of Crystal. Also, codebreaker codes seem to work the best. You can try these. www.thatvideogameblog.com/pokemon-crystal-cheats/
Try to do one cheat at a time, and some cheats require mastercodes to work. Also some cheats have specific instructions on how to use them. Like go the pokemart and buy the first item or get your item from the pc. That sort of thing.
If he wants to build a dream team from the start youll want to use a wild pokemon modifier code. This will basically change the encounter table so you can get whatever pokemon you want from the beginning. Thats all I got. Hope this helps.
