I used mineral oil applied the same way on a spring steel ko katana for over ten years...worked great. I made the same mistake cutting branches and it acid etched the blade on a few small spots. I polished it out but never it again.

I just use mineral oil, and I don't pour it directly on the blade. I put a little bit on paper towel and rub it on from there.

Remington makes single use wipes. (RemOil) wipes. They are awesome for mid budget blades. I have been using them for years and have had no negative issues. As long as the blade is clean, you can get multiple uses from one wipe.

I usually clean it with alcohol and then apply sword oil after the alcohol dries.

    Nice explained video. Thanks.
I always use only Shoji oil on my katanas. Small amount, a few drops.

Please treat the old one somewhat like a museum would. Example... not on open display, getting dusty, getting sunlight, etc. Even humidity and temperature swings are very bad for wood. All damaging.

Hi Mr Norcross, I generally reoil after iai practice and test cutting. Or have days where I just clean and reoil every couple of months. Methods I have done both with and without powder. I generally use tissues and choji oil and have used sewing machine oil and wd40. I am guilty of putting too much oil on on an occasion. I wanted to add a coulple of things here I have enjoyed watching your ninja sword dvd, so congratulations on that. I want to ask about your other 2 sword dvds, I have Grand master Stephen Hayes kenjutsu fundamentals dvd and have Soke Hatsumi's Ken, Tachi, Katana dvds, and other fundamental dvd, what do you offer in your content that makes it unique? Question is asked respectfully.
