- Fancied having a bash at making a strumstick for a buddy. We were both really chuffed with the end result :-) which produced such a awesome sound .

I really enjoyed watching this build process, I’m a guitar builder who uses mostly hand tools for my builds (other than a bandsaw and router), this gave me a really great idea for a travel size guitar.
I'm glad you enjoyed thank you 🙂
To back it up with a cool tune was the best. Great build.
Thank you, that's my friend playing original music he came up with all the way through the vid ,
He's currently working on some more for a future project 🙂
Your mate is a very talented musician!
And nice build ✌🏻
hermoso !!!, Beautiful, i will do one for my self right now. Greetings from Mexico, saludos desde México.
Thank you , let me know how it goes 🙂
What a fantastic thing looks so much fun to build and play and I really enjoyed the video well done ❤
Thank you very much 😊
That is tremendous!!! Thank you for the fun vid!!!!
Thanks 🙂
Didnt expect that awesome sound!!! Wauw! I want one!
I didn't expect it either, Thank you 🙂
Brillient! I loved it! Nothing like being a mad scientist of sorts .LOL
Thank you 🤣
👍👍 very cool. Well done. Primarily I'm a Tele player but have been bored lately so I just started on a custom Cigar Box Guitar. I wish I had some of the tools your shop has, but a lot can be said for doing it yourself & seeing it come to life☺️ you definitely inspired me to finish mine 👍👍
That's a very cool of you to say ,I'm glad you liked it and I hope you finish your project ,
Most of my tools are just budget tools or inherited still working my way up 🙂👍👍
I got in a little over my head. Lol. My box is actually 6 sided, none of the angles are normal & limited tools. But I'll finish it 😀 thanks for posting this & I'm glad I found it, it really made my day 👍
I built a cigar box guitar with only two handsaws, some wood rasps and spade bits. Don't overthink, and just build what needs to be built. I bought lumber that was close enough in dimension, I didn't need to cut it down with a table saw or whatever. I ended up giving it to a friend who liked it.
CBG's, Strumsticks .... welcome to the rabbit hole!
Hey there
Just curious , did you finish your cigar box guitar?
Nice job, looking to see you build more instruments :)
Thank you very much 🙂
really cool!
Thanks 🙂
Just watched, and watching again! Very well done! And end result made me want do this as a project next.
Ive built 3 cbgs so far, and am hooked.
A similar build to yours is soon to come i think.
Thank you
Thanks I'm glad you liked it , if you build one I'd love to see a picture on Instagram or fb 🙂
Wonderful!!!! Really amazing!
Thank you glad you liked it 🙂
SUPERB 👍
Thank you 👍
Well done. Enjoyed that!!! Thnx.
Glad you enjoyed it ,thank you 🙂
. Very nice video.
Thanks glad you liked it 🙂
Bravo👏👏Enjoyed the build and playing👍👍
Thank you 🙂
Super ,I like it
Thank you 🙂
I just had a thought. I have a boat oar that I use for a pattern for 3 and 4 string guitars, it wouldn't be much of a stretch to fashion an instrument such as yours based on the boat paddle profile. I'd have to make it a shade thicker through the body. Thanks for the idea. 😊😊😊
That's sounds great 😀
Lovely instrument.
Thank you 🙂
Now i want to make one. The only part im nervous about getting right is the frets
I think I show measurements of frets in this vid what I didn't show is it's 18.5 cm from the bridge to the first fret , hope this helps 👍
New strumstick vid coming out this week 🙂
Good luck
Fantastic!
Congratulations!!!!
Thank you 👍
Very cool 😊
Thanks 🙂
I wish I could build guitars and similar instruments. But I have: a. no knowledge (of both how musical instruments work and of woodworking), b. no tools, c. no documentation, d. no workshop, e. no time, f. no money to do it. So I guess it will forever be my dream...
So I'm a few steps ahead of you BUT I've only had my workshop since October, I do have some tools but they're mid range or inherited
I don't have any musical knowledge but I built this , it exceeded my expectations
Keep moving forward and dreaming 🙂
Hello I've been thinking about your coment for the last couple of days .
Maybe you could look into the Man sheds community, hopefully there's one nr you
Love it ❤
Thank you very much 🙂
👏👏👏
🙂👍👍
I have never seen an instrument like that and really like the sound. Would you do a follow up video with a little more details on the project. By the way you got another subscriber. Cheers
Hi, nice to hear from you and glad you like the strum stick. I would like to make another one in the future so will definitely try and include more detail then 😊
@@No1projects also make a walking dulcimer. Similar instrument, but it has a wider neck and you play it a different style (by just fretting the paired melody strings)
@@-jank-willson I'll check it out 👐
@@No1projects Seagull Merlin, Jaromin Boondocker, and Roosebeck wildwood are all good examples.
And I am pleased to see you still have all your fingers !! Watch out with that bleeding rotary saw or there wont be no more music.
Looking forward to the tuning details how long between nut and bridge, what notes it is tuned to and include the octave. For example G3 or whatever. What gives it its tone because a small body will not have much resonance. Sounds good, what else do you play because you make this look easy and nothin is easy to start with. Thanks Brian
Ha ha I think the camera angle makes the saw look a little closer to my fingers than it is.
I think the resonance comes from the neck stretching out to become the side of the body .It's tuned to D2.
And that's my friend Steve playing his own composition, he also plays bass ,mandolin ,drums and a little guitar .Thanks for watching 🙂
Really nice project. But would have liked more info on the scale length and strings used.
Nice to hear from you .I would like to make another one in the future ,I'll try and include more detail then .Glad you liked it 🙂
very nice work
Thank you 🙂
Nice job!
Thank you! Cheers! 🙂
Good job
Thank you 🙂
Well you either lied to us or your friend played it. Which is what I believe lol.
Strum stick, interesting cross between a cigar box guitar and a uke. Nice
🤣 Definitely my friend playing.
He created all the music in the vid .
Thanks for watching 👍
Great video and Build man 👍
Thanks Ben 🙂
Very nice work. Great video and you play very well. Thank you for sharing. New Subscriber.
Thank you , not me playing unfortunately, my friend has the musical talent. 🙂
No truss rod? Neat little strumstick, it's the first I've heard of them.
No truss rod , thanks for watching 👍
Where could I buy one , as I had a operation on my chord hand which stopped me playing my six string guitar.
I would like a electric one . any help would be great , thank you .
I think etsy has some with the piezo pic up stuck on 👍
Nice router table :D I'd give you a follow, but I'm already subscribed :D
Thanks I appreciate it 😄
Very interesting build and a enjoyable video to watch!! Well done! Question: Noticed in your video a great way to change a hand sander to a fixed one. Can you share your plans on how to make the mount for the sander?
Thanks for watching, I converted the belt sander a while ago now ,like everything I make I just wing it never any plans 🙂
If you find me on Instagram and send me a message, I'll happily send you a few photos if that'll help
Acoustic sound much much better then electric 👌🙌
Thanks for watching 🙂
Мастер!- а, мастер!- как называется ваша балалайка и чьей страны инструмент?!!
🤷
Just managed to translate your message. I think the strumsticks origins are in America, this one was made in England . Thanks for watching 🙂
Im thinkin hawaiian lap steel.
I think the latest version of the strumstick i built is a little similar 😄
🙂👍
👍👍👍👍👍
Hi can you help me could you please share my the plan for this project for make it
I'm so sorry I didn't make plans I'm afraid ☹️
There's probably plenty of plans for a dulcimer/strum stick online 🙂
If anyone wants me I'll be in the shed! 😁
Have fun 😁
What is the tune being played throughout the video and at the end? I't's driving me mad trying to reproduce it! Any chance of a breakdown? 🙂
@@grahamwhitmore286 My friend Steve created and performed the music it's his original, unfortunately it's all in his head as he doesn't read music so I don't think we can extract it 🤣
The full version of the tune /song is in my gun stock video , it's the best part of that vid 🙂
@@No1projects A talented guy. I'll watch it carefully. 🙂
Needs to talk. No idea what chuffed means.
It means happy 😊
Nice job! 👍
I'd love to build something like this perhaps a small guitar easily stowed/picked up? Never made anything like this before so might be out of my skillset/not sure all the basic dimensions needed though/proportions & fret distances etc? 🏴🇬🇧
Worst case you make firewood ,best case you make a playable instrument ,give it a go 🙂
