- Apex Legends New Update Is The End Of Skill Based Matchmaking as Apex Legends' matchmaking system for a long time relied on a hidden MMR to create skill-based matches. This meant players were pitted against opponents of similar skill, but it also led to frustration. Queue times could be long, and even average players found themselves constantly facing very sweaty lobbies. Some felt this SBMM system hindered improvement as they were never matched against a wider range of skills. Season 20 brought a big change. Respawn ditched the old SBMM in favor of a system prioritizing faster matches. Now, your Ranked Points (RP) and how you perform in a match (kills and other factors) are used to create matchups. The aim is to find a balance between fair competition and keeping queue times reasonable. The community is still figuring out the new system. While some appreciate the faster queues, others aren't convinced it creates a truly fair experience, especially for newer or casual players.

Yeaaa all the lobbies I get into now are just sweaty 3 stacks with 40k kill legend preds with over 2mil damage on a single gun. Like no, highest I got was Plat my first 2 seasons, never played ranked the same since season 5, never as enjoyable, I feel like over the years every season got sweatier and sweatier

I really don't care about fighting good players, it's helped me improve massively. What i cant stand is the dumbass "big brother system" where your teammates are complete AI and have no idea how to shoot a gun but you're supposed to carry them to their 1st win every single game
I’ve noticed that as well. As I usually solo fill trios. A lot of of lobbies where I’m getting low-level players on my team and/or it’s a brand new account that they just bought for the badges. I can confidently say I had about 20 games almost in a row of where it’s people lower than level 100 on new accounts. I’ve had a chance to ask a bunch of these people what happened and why they’re on a new account some have said they installed Apex and just never played it again, or they got banned and they didn’t want to admit it to me because some would be really good and someone would be awful expecting a carry to win. Actually had five wins having to do that and out of all of those five wins one of my teammates have left and I turn IGL 😂 n coast a 3v2 on focus comms with rat strats

I’ve got a whole game carrying two other players and they never used any of their skills other than maybe once or twice the whole game even at 19 minutes which is absurd because it was a casual and there were 6 to 7 squads up still. people just cannot camp to master this season so people aren’t playing ranked and they’re just full sending it with some of the top stacks
I just mentioned that in a comment. The game is far less fun unless I'm running with my team. Like there have been SO many times where I "setup" the team for a W that my actual team would take advantage of and win fights. Like little things, very quick decisions or strategy.
Problem is when I try to solo queue unless i'm playing solos it SO hard for me to win team fights because my team doesn't really understand, know or even care what they're doing. They're playing casual while we're fighting the hardcore sweat teams. I don't mind if I fight the big 3 stacks but at least give me a team I can fight them with you know?
I USED to be able to solo queue fairly decently years ago but as time went on and they kept changing the SBMM that shouldn't be in pubs anyway and as overall player skill increased it's gotten to the point where some days I don't even feel like playing or if I do turn fill off since I have a better chance on my own.

Engagement based match making is a cancer slowly killing this game, two days after this crap was realised I deleted the game knowing as long as it's there it'll never be the same, skill based match making wasn't too bad but this new system is pure dog shite, I'll flood the non sbmm/MMR playlist and if it stays I'll stay but the second it's gone so am I, I'm not playing that eomm or whatever dumb name they have for it

I stopped playing Trios entirely due to SBMM and with ranked being a sesspool of cheaters this season I essentially stopped playing. If I could get a no matchmaking trios back I would play apex. No joke my Trios matchmaking has been way harder than my ranked games the last like 7 seasons.
I'm done with the devs, only a handful care, but it's not enough.

Idk I’ve been having a lot of fun, if anything been feeling easier. Got my 20 bomb on the new legend, in plat even tho I don’t play rank and still averaging 2kd in rank playing it like pubs. It’s all in all been a blast, just been getting stale, but I have been wanting solos for the longest so I’m also not complaining too much

I stopped playing the game because of the crazy sbmm. What's the point of getting better at a game if every time you get better the matchmaking makes it feel like you got worse. Now I can't even go back and play the game because after two games it thinks I'm as good as I used to be

I was a new player and I stopped because I kept getting wrecked in pubs by 4k20 players and then get cursed and shouted at by teammates way above my skill level that the game has matched me with. stopped before reaching level 20 because I was just so tired of dying.
i havent had that big of issues playing apex, yes the last ranked badge i have earned is plat but im so used to fighting diamonds and masters that i don't feel it much anymore

SBMM has gotten so bad that I won’t play unless I have a full squad. They need to create a ceiling for new players up to level 50 and not reward any badges to avoid smurfs

I honestly disagree. Keep sbmm for casual game modes- the less sbmm, the more insane stomps by teams in mixtape. What makes it casual is the mode itself, not the matchmaking. Wouldnt removing sbmm for them just make them sweatier? I feel like people who talk about how apex is too sweaty need to just realize how hard the game is. I could be wrong

Guys, it’s because EA and Apex have shown their priority is not a great experience for the player, it’s extended engagement as long as possible. They don’t care about a good experience. All they care about is their algorithms that show they are keeping you playing as long as possible with their proprietary SBMM to sell as much skins as possible. If it was a good thing for players, why is it kept a secret how it works?
Apex would die without sbmm, as much as people don't want to believe that. Casuals would be farmed way too much
They’re so interested on getting new player but like what about the thousands of players who’ve been playing for years??? I haven’t picked up the game in forever because the games just aren’t all that fun to play anymore and since they removed duos I can’t play with my friend without having to play with some random. I don’t care about the cosmetics or the stupid shop events. Make the game fun again!
I encountered a 9 man team yesterday in ranked diamond lobbies on console. I spam reported everyone in the squad that I was spectating and didn’t see any ban (not surprised). I uninstalled shortly after.
ive consistently had to go into ranked just for fair games. every single apex game ive played in trios with my friend has resulted in the third dying immediately, leaving, and then screwing us over. i dont play ranked so ive stayed rookie all season, but just to play a decent game i have to queue up there
The “content creators” are the only people that care about SBMM. They openly admit that their content relies on high kill, high damage games.
I get bored when I stomp the lobby repeatedly. Because I’m a regular and average player - it isn’t fun.
Maybe if they stopped allowing 1% of the player base to dictate the changes, they’d have a better, more enjoyable game.
But who can really complain, when it’s quite literally free to play and not pay to win?

I started a new PC account to try it and the matchmaking was ridiculous. I couldn’t move and shoot but it threw me into PC Diamond, master, preds and just kill grinders with thousands and thousands of kills. I was a level 3 at the time…. This is an issue
I mean, SBMM should never be a thing in casual lobbies. BUT, it's EA and their drive is to keep us hooked and playing and they see SBMM as the means of keeping us hooked, so we'll never see the end of SBMM in Apex.
No, it should be a thing. Newbs andlow-levell players should NEVER be lobbied with Preds and Masters. That's just ridiculous, but that's what's happening.

I play with my friend who’s really good, we get super sweaty lobbies. Silver friend joins and the lobby’s get easy instantly. Makes the experience so manipulated and un enjoyable, winning or losing
The removal of sbmm would drastically speed up the q times in smaller regions.
They have let pubs be the absolute worst over this past year( since season 18). I have been maining apex since season 11 and it is punishing to be even average at the game.
back in season 18 they turned sbmm or eomm whatever for the doppelganger event and it was actually fun i sucked more than now and used to play high sense and miss a lot of shots and still i was having a blast and actually winning 1v1s

I’m honestly done with sbmm. think about it right, imagine facing preds back to back in continuous third parties. That sounds very and would definitely want to make you keep playing the game

Yeah but that does not fix the problem. You'll still get 3-stacks, cheaters, smurfs and sweats in every single match with the current low number in players. During night time is particularly unbearable to play the game.
Hopefully the weapon mastery revamp doesn't screw anything up, I'm already 1640 mastery so 1,000 more levels till I'm done with every weapon
Their SBMM is already strange anyway there's one carry in every team which decides if you'll have an easy time or have tryhard enemies idk if quads will make it so that it'll put 1 more person to be carried or js have one more leader

I made a brand account, died to the AI, and lost every orientation match. My first real lobby was a Triple Pred Team as Champ, and I got killed in that game by a player with 100,000 kills on Wraith. Then instead of playing, I just landed and let players kill me, and my matchmaking never got easier and my teammates never got better. 0 damage 0 kills 0 wins k/d 0.0 250 straight games of just dying off drop.

I think there should be no sbmm in casual at all. Hence the word, "casual". Really the system sucks for ranked mode as well. Why dont we just fight against the rank were currently in? Sbmm almost always makes it unfair which is backward AF

Is such a bs statement considering that people can start apex from scratch and still be matched with apex predators.
One thing to consider i believe is the region. When I play mixtape in my native region, South America, there is only 2 types of matches, the ones where I get low lvl noobs in my team and i have to carry then against tryhards or the one I get tryhard teamates against low lvl noobs. Both cases are quite boring. it's not fun having to carry weaker teamates or to destroy weak enemies. When I queue in mixtape in NA I can get more balanced matches but still time to time there are some really unbalanced ones. Idk I don't mind longer queue times if at least I got into more fun matches.
I feel like I'm in the twilight zone or something everyone complaining saying that the game is unplayable, while I'm over here just getting better everyday because of the cheaters and sweats, although I do agree that apex needs to fix the game none of us should be losing full composure over a game that none of us get paid to play. Just play get pissed on get mad take a break and get back to it later or uninstall simple.

Apex is a BR and at the heart of it they need to focus mainly on that. The other stuff is fun but that needs to take a back seat and the sbmm needs to leave pubs

Quads is straight stupid, they only cater to console and stacked chads. As a solo player quads is completely irrelevant, last thing I want is to be paired with a 3 man premade with console kids. Solos minus sbmm is a keeper ......
I think they turned SBMM off a while ago. I keep getting Preds and Masters with 20 kill badges (including solo version) in my pubs lobbies, and I'm a hard stuck gold player with horrible stats. In no conceivable universe should they be in my lobby.
It’s a broken system. I’ve been playing br for roughly two months but am going up against three stack preds and people who have tens of thousands of kills when I have about 800. I have played other shooter games so have experience with aiming and have really adjusted but I’ve hit a roadblock bc everybody I come up against is an unreal player with so much more technical skill and advantages of being a three stack

I took a 2 month break so I was rusty but I wanted to come back because last season started off really impressive.
But not even 10 games in I was going against at least 12 masters and 2 preds 💀

I'm tired of this game that was created for you to always lose. If you win a game playing well, the next one you (solo queue player) will be against a team of 3 pred stacks. They created it this way to manipulate your brain so you always think that next time you will get more kills. Not to mention the boxes that you are forced to open and make the game even more addictive. I already uninstalled it because I don't intend to face 4 pred stacks in pub matches.
Win a game and your teammates are pretty much shit for a long period of time. I don't know anyone who actually has fun playing this game anymore.

Sbmm does not exist in apex. Maybe we should acknowledge that the devs have lied to everyone for years.and this is no exception. I am unistalling this game after 10 seasons of daily play. I have been taking screenshots and clips of every single champ/person who has eliminated me over the past 2 weeks to show why i am uninstalling, seeing as the only voices that get heard are a select few content creator/pros who only make it worse for the day to day average player base. I have never actively encouraged people to stay away from a video game so much in my life. I now get to live with the embarrassment that i have spent the time, effort, and money on this game to be continuously slapped in the face and let down by the dev team and the community. I genuinely hope that one day they fix the game but 5 years of false claims and empty promises do not make me confident they ever will. With that being said i hope more of the community will uninstall as well. Maybe then they will finally do something. Thanks for the updates the last few years but this legend is signing off. Side note i have no idea where to post my screenshots so they actually get seen so any tips would be great.

SBMM only protects the below average player. Apex has such a high skill ceiling now that SBMM is useless. Along with that, skills with shooters in general have increased.
