I'm an archer and an archery coach, this is exactly how we are told to practice, you are trying to perfect a process to the best of your ability, and do it consistently that way every time, nothing else matters, aiming isn't the hard part at 90% of competition distances, the hard part is having a consistent process. Once you got that down, focus on your target and let your bow do the rest.

I remember once i had an archery lesson on a retreat went to. an instructor taught us the technique, then we practiced a bit and had a competion after. I decided to focus solely on perfecting my technique because it was probably the only chance id have to learn archery. Whilst everyone else was focused on winning, i experimented and practiced. I was behind at first but i got the hand of it quickly and by the end of the session, i was able to shoot perfectly on target anywhere. Everyone was impressed. The thoughts i had afterwards are exactly the same as in this video.

I also sort of noticed this paradox. Let me get this straight: when I do something, and don't focus on the objective, I assend; on the contrary, when I do so, the outcome i wish to happen doesn't even seem to happen. Whether that's a paradox or not, the message just conveyed above is totally approved by me.

I agree with a lot of what was said in this video. It was really interesting to see how constantly trying to win discourages one's willingness to take risks and fail, because everyone has to lose sometimes. However, I'm a little confused about when one should focus on winning, because I don't think there is a time to focus on winning. Even during important competitions, (and especially then) I believe the importance should be on enjoying the game or whatever is happening RIGHT NOW rather than focusing on the result after that. When people focus too much on winning, that's when their nerves take over, they get into their own head, and they lose.

Cool vid. This advice is part of my identity now and I can say it does wonders everywhere in life. Most of the time people always see me fail, but then comes the day where there's a "important" competition and I sometime dominate and people find out at that time. When I go rock climbing, I can spend 3 hours and not complete a single boulder problem, but this is a cheatcode to getting better so fast. It's a long comment, but it's to say that I 100% believe in your advise and also recommend it to everyone reading this

I truly agree about internal vs external reward. Sometimes people without any medals, money, external respect in other eyes or anything else would not be that motivated to do something.
The goal and the rewards that are internal are essential for following the goals.
    Thanks for the video!

Having a balance between accomplishing the objective and cultivating the skills to produce a good result are of equal importance. When one focuses on getting the end result they may miss the things that could have made a difference. If one focuses on learning the best way they may lose sight of working on solving the problem.
In many instances in life, prescribing one best way without accounting for the other end of the argument leads to an incomplete world view. Take the middle path.

when you mentioned that sometimes you should feel what its like to let your subconscious take care of your techniques, my eyes were opened. I told my friends that i dont think when i play but I realized the reason I don't think is because i'm focused on winning instead of improving my technique, which is something im severely lacking. I am very fast, in reacting, in memorizing combos, and in basic pressure, but I don't have technique, no mix, no game sense, just raw strength
I should probably go practice my technique soon... its definitely way harder!

If the focus is only winning, you could only pick easier opponents and that will technically make you more likely to win. The real thing is: you probably won't be able to derive long term pleasure from that because you will probably have messed up your dopamine receptors which regulate the reward mechanism. If you focus on learning more techniques on the other hand, you'll probably get your ass kicked a lot, but when you go to opponents which have the same time you do in an area, but have focused solely on winning, you'll probably win because you'll see through their flimsy techniques. I remember playing Max Payne 3 on Hard for the first time a long time ago and indeed finding it actually quite hard. Now I laugh comically because I have mastered the game to such an extent that I find even the most extreme difficulties (Old School and Hardcore) to be way easier than Hard was than I first played it. I know the perception of difficulty can be really subjective, but there it is: I've improved my technique to a point that I've mastered the game.

All I ever wanted out of my life was to do good and enjoying it. Life has blurred this and pressured me to “perform” and “get results”. I hate it and because of so I literally stopped performing, stopped playing, and even when I’m the literal best in the field I just quit.

Practice your craft for the joy of the craft, not for the attainment of glory. As with "the score will take care of itself", the glory will take care of itself if you focus on playing the game for the love of the game. If you only focus on the glory of celebrity you will miss the steps required to get there.

    Too Good !!
I have heard about a term some days back called the 'Blue eyed boy' favourite person of boss - how some employees are able to become that while others can't ? What's the secret..

Amazing video id love to add something I got from Jeff Chan, there are two types of training esentially, training to win and training to learn, both are equally as important. Out of competition learn and closer to competition ramp up the winning training.

I was just thinking this but about my skill in street fighter. I learned all this cross ups and combos but I never use them in game because I want to win. But if I practiced those combos in game I would get better and as a result I might win.

I just want to win against my own self-doubts, tbh. Don’t care much for feeling superior to others, but proving myself wrong about my abilities is peak.

Outcomes are just symtomps of the processes
Don't remember the exact quote, but that's the general idea. Just focus on fleshing out, optimizing the processes, do it so well that not achieving the intended outcome (in this case a win) is just impossible
Learned this from the guy called Justin Sung btw
