    3:51 Changing the flow rate WILL change the pressure when there’s coffee in the basket.
    Only when the flow is completely blocked (by a blind filter) will the pressure always go up to the maximum.
    Flow control isn’t ideal to set pressure (because it depends on the resistance of the coffee) but you can change the pressure significantly using the flow control of this machine.

    • @coffeenerdaaron
      @coffeenerdaaron  Před 5 měsíci +2

      Yes you are correct, what I meant was you can’t adjust it to set the base pressure like you can on other machines with a blind. You can control the flow to set the water debit which yes does impact pressure depending on the resistance, I just didn’t explain it well 😝

    Just ordered one for $399 with the coupon code. I'm coming from a Flair Pro 2 so I'm interested to see if I can get similar quality espresso with the added benefit of steamed milk. I also like that its 58mm (for upgradeability) and I expect the community mods for this will be going crazy in a year or two. Would love to see some mods around pressure control and a better, low-pressure pre-infusion.

    Cannot pull shot and Steam milk at the same time. They both use the same pump, it does not have a second pump. So either the brew head or Thermal block can use the pump one at a time. The thermal block does help that you don’t have to wait for boiler to heat up, also boiler will always be at brew temp.

    Nice review! For people getting started in espresso, this seems like a good option but it's important to add a grinder ($200+) to the total cost of entry into the hobby. So, for $700 USD, are there good options worth considering? Some of the Brevilles and the GCP might be worth a look.

    • @medroastt9888
      @medroastt9888 Před 5 měsíci

    GCP has that 3 way solenoid valve, so in the end of process u got a very nice dry puck in ur portafilter, right. What about this one? Also, can u do that 9bar spring opv mod like in the Gaggia? Cheers☕

    • @coffeenerdaaron
      @coffeenerdaaron  Před 6 měsíci +3

      As far as I know it does have a 3 way valve, when you stop the shot it drains excess water into the drip tray and the pucks have been dry. I’m planning to open it up soon and see what the plumbing looks like and see about doing an OPV or some sort of pressure control.

    Love your videos
    I have a question
    I am about to enter the espresso world
    Would you recommend me to buy a medium performance espresso machine that has a built in ok grinder (like Breville express empress)
    Or a budget espresso machine (like delonghi dedica) + a good grinder (like varia)

    • @coffeenerdaaron
      @coffeenerdaaron  Před 6 měsíci

      Thanks!! I had a Dedica a long time ago and I did not care for it personally. With a machine like this having the 58mm industry standard portafilter size and more precise control over some aspects like boiler temp make this such an amazing option for the cost. I do understand the added cost of a grinder so the Breville’s with built in grinders are a nice option, however I’m not a fan of those grinders. I had a Breville Smart Grinder Pro (same as the built in grinders) for a while and while it got the job done I quickly outgrew it as I learned more about brewing coffee. Also having a better external grinder gives you the option of getting something nicer that can better grind for other brewing methods and potentially be upgraded with better burrs. I think in the long run a machine like this plus a nicer grinder is a better long term option but that’s just my personal thoughts. I know a lot of people get good results and like the Brevilles.

      @coffeenerdaaron  Před 2 měsíci

      Funny you should ask... I tried!!! I took the OPV from a Breville Dual Boiler cause they use a similar style pump and it did some weird things! It would pull several shots with pretty consistent pressures then would start to have trouble controlling the pressure. Not sure if it was an issue with the OPV or with this particular pump with an OPV but it didn't seem to like it. That said though, I don't see why it wouldn't work but I can't explain my experience. It shouldn't be a problem to plumb one in and get it to work, it may just take some trial and error experimenting with different OPV's.
