Waiting for my plane home from Paris to Manchester, running on fumes, no sleep and a sore head, here are some reflections on last night in the cold light of day.
As an All Blacks supporter, all I am is 100% proud of the All Blacks because they played like All Blacks. Win or lose that's the most important thing. Even better, they entered the RWC as a NZ rugby team and transformed into All Blacks. With 14 men on the field they kept playing like All Blacks. In 100 years, it won't matter to NZ or the rugby world how many world cups the All Blacks have won but it will matter if they stop playing like All Blacks. Since 1905 pulling on the black jersey has enabled men from the bottom of the world to ascend to something more. May that continue. Well done the Boks, huge respect. These games are truly a battle of the titans.
I'm South African, and must say you guys should be damn proud of that All Black team. After the red, I was hoping the Springboks would be dominant. And although it looked that way at half time, the All Blacks came out in the 2nd half and showed so much grit and fighting spirit. When we lost Kolisi to the yellow, we conceded a try. Yet the All Blacks were on the attack with man down for most of the match. Big props, and both teams showed why the SA v NZ games are always legendary
Well said, I'm a saffa and I wanted this final from the beginning and I'm glad we had the chance to witness it. To be honest I felt a bit cheated when Sam Cane was sent off but what a statement the All Blacks made. The way they played, man I'm overjoyed the Boks won but hell I wish there didn't have to be a loser because they were absolute champs. You guys can be so proud of your team! From a young guy here in a backwater rural township in south africa I want to say thank you Tim. Your takes of this world cup was always what I came on for. You were great and so unbiased. I hope your channel blow up huge and successful.
Rassie was right at the back of the group when they lifted the trophy. Proof in the pudding. That is REAL humilty. He is truly a servant of South African Rugby and puts the team first. What a legend.

As an AB supporter, there is no way we were robbed. Even before the tournament l said sloppy tackles and red cards were going to stretch team tolerances. The draw was the draw and the result is going to stand in history as testimony to a truly EPIC final and win by the Bokke. Congratulations.South Africa.
The way they played even with just 14 men... if anything that sendoff inspired them but I must admit I felt a bit robbed. I wanted this to be a fair contest from start to finish, you have to do it within the structure of the game though
strongly disagree with that statement, they were robbed of the world cup evidence showed 3 dangerous tackles made by SA that should have been red or yellow cards plus the scrum at the end of the game that the all black contested and won but penalty were given to SA.

Why didn't you support him when he made his video? Or were you too busy enjoying the rub of the green to see the truth. Inconsistencies need to be ironed out as rassie rightfully pointed out. Am sure he will be thrilled if something was done. For now, stop diminishing the Boks achievement and focus on the real problem!

As a kiwi, I'm still hurting. But seeing Kolisi lifting the cup again, I unexpectedly felt elated. Despite the intense rivalry I see SA as friends, and I love celebrating my friends' successes with them. And Ox's celebration dances made me smile. His positivity is so infectious

The thing I really appreciate about Jacques Nienaber is how classy he was in the press conference after the loss to Ireland. Self awaredness, humility, straight-forward answers. It was such a contrast to Eddie Jones after the Wallabies losses to Wales and Fiji.

As a Bok supporter, we are over the moon, but nothing but respect for the ABs! There is no better rugby nation on earth to judge yourself against than the ABs, hence the massive 102 year old rivalry with the Boks. Sam can keep his head high, that red card was inconsequential in the grand scheme of things. Looking forward to all future chapters! 🇿🇦
Absolute respect to the All Blacks. They were much better on attack than us, but rugby is also about great defence, and the Springboks supplied that in bucketloads through the entire World Cup, facing every top 6 team along the way. Well done Boks! We are so proud of you 💚
@@KKOPPONGbut his absence and the match official’s influence created a loaded deck against the ABs…. Yes they fought hard and just fell short. But to see some glaring calls go against them. Frizell was lazy and a coin toss if in bin or just penalty. Canes red card set the standard for kalisi to get a red card, Eben leading with elbow / forearm striking canes head ignored prior to cane getting sent off when there was intent…. There were missed calls both ways too. Colby yellow fine, as Aaron smith coped that two weeks prior against Ireland.
As an Irishman living in the States and watching the games in a sterile atmosphere your commentary/reports were fantastic, unbiased and a real rugby man’s perspective! Cheers and keep going!

I would just like to put this out there... Massive congrats to the French for not only hosting a magnificent World Cup but still bringing the numbers even though their team was out. They made this into the spectacle it deserved to be so massive shout out to them!
Really hope they can come out on top next time without all the media fanfare about being favorites or whatever, I never understood how playing at home is considered an advantage with all that pressure
We love and respect the ABs. We feel your pain too and just want to thank you for meeting us in the final. Wouldn't have wanted to play any other team. We are the top 2 teams in the world and this WC proved it once again! Much respect.
Thank you Olympic. Love and respect to the Boks. I was raised on rugby from a small town in New Zealand in the 60's. The All Black tour to South Africa in 1970 was followed avidly by myself. It felt like a Boer war such was the passion and reverence that All Blacks were received in the SA republic. I still remember in my mind all these years later a certain Joggie Jansen? running 50 metres diagonally untouched for a try in the corner for the boks and a certain BG Williams doing outrageous in out sidesteps for the ABs. Who can't forget the monsters who arrived on our shores in 1981 with names like Flippie Van de Merve and the gorilla from Rhodesia Ray Mordt brushing aside tacklers on the way to scoring a try in Wellington and a 24-12 win to SA. Both he and Gerry Gerimisayers( excuse the spelling) looked like robots on steroids. We got lucky in the decider in Auckland when a certain Welsh referee named Clive Norling gave us a dubious penalty in the last ' collapsed' scrum of the game. Why would the boks collapse their scrum right in front of your own posts. Such are our shared memories, such are mine. May they long continue. May God continue to bless our fine nations ( controlled politics aside)
Mate, it’s truly sad to know we’re not going to be hearing from you for another four years. I hope you come and visit us in SA. As a Saffa, it’s been the greatest rugby family in history, not just the team. For instance, every Friday was declared Bok Friday at the start of the RWC whereby all schools nationally would allow students to ditch their uniforms for a Springbok shirt instead. The Corporate world followed suite and I don’t know of any other country which did the same. Win or lose, this team is inspirational to so many, especially within the poorer communities. They provide hope to a seemingly hopeless country and subsequent life ahead. When you have Bongi and Mapimpi who grew up like this, too poor to own a rugby ball and had to make ones out of plastic, and then be seen raising the Web Ellis Cup, it’s incomprehensible and so inspiring. Lest we forget the unbelievable leadership of Siya who has become the greatest ambassador for rugby in the history of the sport. Of all captains, most cannot wait to hear him speak at press conferences as he is so eloquently humble and passionate. So whatever the future holds for the Boks, they elevate a nation every time they run out onto a field and the result is totally irrelevant because we’re in it for the love of the game and just to feel stronger together! All the best for the future and God speed ahead mate, you’ve been legendary. Cheers

Hi Tim, I can so much relate to your sentiment of having witnessed „history unfolding in front of you“ (I‘m paraphrasing). The same happened to me. I watched my first ever rugby match on June 24, 1995, in a sports bar in Pretoria, when living for 8 months in RSA during my studies. Being a German with no rugby background whatsoever that was kind of a revelation and I‘ve been a Springbok fan ever since. (I nevertheless also have been an „admirer“ of Jonah Lomu from that RWC onwards, regardless of my heart beating for the boks!) Especially when I witnessed the celebrations after the final whistle. The main 8 lane road junction in downtown Pretoria being completely blocked for 8 hours or so by a „rainbow“ crowd, white, blacks, coloreds hugging, kissing, dancing, singing, together, all of which was really very much a thing at the time. So yes, sometimes we are privileged to witness history happening. I said it before in one of my comments: I really love the style of your videos, your unwavering impartiality (even after the ENG - RSA semi final!!!), your emotional intelligence and your deep understanding of rugby whilst never boring your audience with technical details but rather showing the big picture and pointing out the decisive moments and explaining why something mattered. So you have really earned me as a fan of your channel!!! Keep on going and all the best for you. 🙋🏻♂️

To be honest if you go to ANY instagram comments ection its full of "woman coffee cup" posts, "go back to the kitchen", conspiricies, soft slurs, fun-haters, 100 reply insult chains, and just the general lowest of the low. This was my favourite World Cup ever. As a Saffa, yes it's mostly because of the Boks' performance. And the fact that I got to experience world cup winning vibes twice. The first was Portugal's win over Fiji. 🎉 But a big part of it was your channel. You right Rassie is from Despatch, Port Elizabeth and so is Siya. In my last year of rugby in 1987 u15 level I played against Rassie at school vs Despatch. The great Danie Gerber is also from Despatch. ❤❤

Scotland were great! But more than anything, this Springbok win shows that if you want to be the best, you have to beat the best. Wales had a gift and stuffed it.
Commiserations NZ, that was a massive shift and on most nights, would have been enough for the W. You can be extremely proud of your warriors, everyone of them, to the man, gave it their all. I'm gutted for Sam, yellow yes, never red though. A few soft yellows dished out but that's what the game has become. Swings and roundabouts but in a game of such small margins, it proved decisive. I'm super proud of the Boks too, I am a South African after all. They ground out 3 victories on 3 consecutive weekends by 1 point in all 3. Truly remarkable! A modern day sporting miracle! Yep I have not slept, I have watched highlight, after highlight and rewatched and analysed and and...how incredibly heart breaking for the All Blacks, I feel their pain. Nice to see some tennis greats Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic in the stands supporting the rugby. Federer's mom is South African so he was supporting the boks and met with the players in the changing room after. American NFL quarterback legend Tom Brady also posted a huge support video for the springboks and rugby in general.

Thanks for journeying with us right to the end Tim. It was a privilege. Congrats Bokke and thank you thank you thank you …but to my AB friends I want to say that despite the scoreboard, there was no loser. The margins were incredibly small and the roles could have easily been reversed. You can hold your heads high and we continue to respect you and admire the brand of rugby that you play. Both teams yesterday showcased what rugby on this level is all about. Pity about the red card, but in some way I felt it galvanised the AB to give their utmost best in the second halve.
Thanks so much for all your videos which gave an extra layer to the most anticipated podcast each week. I followed the Boks' pool games in France and followed my wife's advice to watch the knockouts on my couch at home ;) In previous World Cups I felt massive elation or despair but this one has been quite different. The competition is so fierce now that I also appreciate how easily it could've gone another way. Like you say Rugby is the real winner here and from the South African fans I've spoken to, one word - Relief.
Savea's conduct when he took over as captain was exemplary. You could tell he may not be pleased with some of the decisions but he just sucked it up and tried to re-energise his team. A lesson to Farrell?
Yeah, if anything he inspired a 14men team to look like 16men team and yes... Farrell can really learn from him proper conduct. He is such a unsportsman like character and honestly is just a disgrace to the game of rugby

Boks weren't gonna run the AB's like in Twickenham...way too many miles on them with this tough route to the final. Plus the rain! Rassie & Co's knew this. My take this morning is the same take I had during the game. AB had all the opportunities in the world to put points on the board but instead opted for trying to break through a really tough defence instead of taking undefendable points and doing it on multiple occasions. That unreal feeling of repeatedly getting away with something you really shouldn't. They lost this game with those bad decisions and that's what's got to hurt because they put in a herculean effort in the second half. I'm sure everyone knows that second half is when we shine and they throttled us in our traditionally most advantages period. Your take on lomax and co as top of the heap is spot on. As for greatest team at a rugby world cup....I can't see Dan Carter and Richie team not putting those points on the board so I can't agree with you there. We absolutely without a shadow of a doubt have had the most storied world cup journey ever though.
As an All Blacks supporter, all I am is 100% proud of the All Blacks because they played like All Blacks. Win or lose that's the most important thing. Even better, they entered the RWC as a NZ rugby team and transformed into All Blacks. With 14 men on the field they kept playing like All Blacks. In 100 years, it won't matter to NZ or the rugby world how many world cups the All Blacks have won but it will matter if they stop playing like All Blacks. Since 1905 pulling on the black jersey has enabled men from the bottom of the world to ascend to something more. May that continue. Well done the Boks, huge respect. These games are truly a battle of the titans.

I'm South African, and must say you guys should be damn proud of that All Black team. After the red, I was hoping the Springboks would be dominant. And although it looked that way at half time, the All Blacks came out in the 2nd half and showed so much grit and fighting spirit. When we lost Kolisi to the yellow, we conceded a try. Yet the All Blacks were on the attack with man down for most of the match. Big props, and both teams showed why the SA v NZ games are always legendary

To be honest I felt a bit cheated when Sam Cane was sent off but what a statement the All Blacks made. The way they played even with just 14 men... if anything that sendoff inspired them but I must admit I felt a bit robbed. I wanted this to be a fair contest from start to finish, you have to do it within the structure of the game though
strongly disagree with that statement, they were robbed of the world cup evidence showed 3 dangerous tackles made by SA that should have been red or yellow cards plus the scrum at the end of the game that the all black contested and won but penalty were given to SA.

The thing I really appreciate about Jacques Nienaber is how classy he was in the press conference after the loss to Ireland. Self awaredness, humility, straight-forward answers. It was such a contrast to Eddie Jones after the Wallabies losses to Wales and Fiji.

Frizell was lazy and a coin toss if in bin or just penalty. Canes red card set the standard for kalisi to get a red card, Eben leading with elbow / forearm striking canes head ignored prior to cane getting sent off when there was intent…. There were missed calls both ways too. Colby yellow fine, as Aaron smith coped that two weeks prior against Ireland.

Thank you Olympic. Love and respect to the Boks. I was raised on rugby from a small town in New Zealand in the 60's. The All Black tour to South Africa in 1970 was followed avidly by myself. It felt like a Boer war such was the passion and reverence that All Blacks were received in the SA republic. I still remember in my mind all these years later a certain Joggie Jansen? running 50 metres diagonally untouched for a try in the corner for the boks and a certain BG Williams doing outrageous in out sidesteps for the ABs. Who can't forget the monsters who arrived on our shores in 1981 with names like Flippie Van de Merve and the gorilla from Rhodesia Ray Mordt brushing aside
tacklers on the way to scoring a try in Wellington and a 24-12 win to SA. Both he and Gerry Gerimisayers( excuse the spelling)
looked like robots on steroids. We got lucky in the decider in Auckland when a certain Welsh referee named Clive Norling gave us a dubious penalty in the last ' collapsed' scrum of the game. Why would the boks collapse their scrum right in front of your own posts. Such are our shared memories, such are mine. May they long continue. May God continue to bless our fine nations ( controlled politics aside)

As a Saffa, it’s been the greatest rugby family in history, not just the team. For instance, every Friday was declared Bok Friday at the start of the RWC whereby all schools nationally would allow students to ditch their uniforms for a Springbok shirt instead. The Corporate world followed suite and I don’t know of any other country which did the same.
Win or lose, this team is inspirational to so many, especially within the poorer communities. They provide hope to a seemingly hopeless country and subsequent life ahead. When you have Bongi and Mapimpi who grew up like this, too poor to own a rugby ball and had to make ones out of plastic, and then be seen raising the Web Ellis Cup, it’s incomprehensible and so inspiring. Lest we forget the unbelievable leadership of Siya who has become the greatest ambassador for rugby in the history of the sport. Of all captains, most cannot wait to hear him speak at press conferences as he is so eloquently humble and passionate. So whatever the future holds for the Boks, they elevate a nation every time they run out onto a field and the result is totally irrelevant because we’re in it for the love of the game and just to feel stronger together!

Hi Tim, I can so much relate to your sentiment of having witnessed „history unfolding in front of you“ (I‘m paraphrasing). The same happened to me. I watched my first ever rugby match on June 24, 1995, in a sports bar in Pretoria, when living for 8 months in RSA during my studies. Being a German with no rugby background whatsoever that was kind of a revelation and I‘ve been a Springbok fan ever since. (I nevertheless also have been an „admirer“ of Jonah Lomu from that RWC onwards, regardless of my heart beating for the boks!) Especially when I witnessed the celebrations after the final whistle. The main 8 lane road junction in downtown Pretoria being completely blocked for 8 hours or so by a „rainbow“ crowd, white, blacks, coloreds hugging, kissing, dancing, singing, together, all of which was really very much a thing at the time. So yes, sometimes we are privileged to witness history happening.
I said it before in one of my comments: I really love the style of your videos, your unwavering impartiality (even after the ENG - RSA semi final!!!), your emotional intelligence and your deep understanding of rugby whilst never boring your audience with technical details but rather showing the big picture and pointing out the decisive moments and explaining why something mattered. This was my favourite World Cup ever. As a Saffa, yes it's mostly because of the Boks' performance. And the fact that I got to experience world cup winning vibes twice. Commiserations NZ, that was a massive shift and on most nights, would have been enough for the W. You can be extremely proud of your warriors, everyone of them, to the man, gave it their all. I'm gutted for Sam, yellow yes, never red though. A few soft yellows dished out but that's what the game has become. Swings and roundabouts but in a game of such small margins, it proved decisive. I'm super proud of the Boks too, I am a South African after all. They ground out 3 victories on 3 consecutive weekends by 1 point in all 3. Truly remarkable! A modern day sporting miracle! No question! An amazing finale to an amazing RWC, 2027 will be very different. Love, peace and respect to you all... God bless...

Yep I have not slept, I have watched highlight, after highlight and rewatched and analysed and and...how incredibly heart breaking for the All Blacks, I feel their pain. Nice to see some tennis greats Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic in the stands supporting the rugby. Federer's mom is South African so he was supporting the boks and met with the players in the changing room after. American NFL quarterback legend Tom Brady also posted a huge support video for the springboks and rugby in general.

Thanks for journeying with us right to the end Tim. It was a privilege. Congrats Bokke and thank you thank you thank you …but to my AB friends I want to say that despite the scoreboard, there was no loser. The margins were incredibly small and the roles could have easily been reversed. You can hold your heads high and we continue to respect you and admire the brand of rugby that you play. Both teams yesterday showcased what rugby on this level is all about. Pity about the red card, but in some way I felt it galvanised the AB to give their utmost best in the second halve.

I followed the Boks' pool games in France and followed my wife's advice to watch the knockouts on my couch at home ;)
In previous World Cups I felt massive elation or despair but this one has been quite different.
The competition is so fierce now that I also appreciate how easily it could've gone another way.
Like you say Rugby is the real winner here and from the South African fans I've spoken to, one word - Relief.
Savea's conduct when he took over as captain was exemplary. You could tell he may not be pleased with some of the decisions but he just sucked it up and tried to re-energise his team. A lesson to Farrell?
Yeah, if anything he inspired a 14men team to look like 16men team and yes... Farrell can really learn from him proper conduct. He is such a unsportsman like character and honestly is just a disgrace to the game of rugby

Boks weren't gonna run the AB's like in Twickenham...way too many miles on them with this tough route to the final. Plus the rain! Rassie & Co's knew this. Hence the old school forwards and kicking game...and thus a 7-1 bench. AB's were amazing in 2nd half. Feel for Cane. That was all the hyped intensity that just spilt over. AB's CAN HOLD THEIR HEADS HIGH!! What a game! LOVE from a Safa living in NZ

PSDT would actually be a nr 6 in the AB,s we change the nrs...Ritchie would be 6 in the Springboks...
There is no doubt that PSDT is not only the best nr7. I would say beat rugby player for the last few years and last night cemented that.

My take this morning is the same take I had during the game. AB had all the opportunities in the world to put points on the board but instead opted for trying to break through a really tough defence instead of taking undefendable points and doing it on multiple occasions. That unreal feeling of repeatedly getting away with something you really shouldn't. They lost this game with those bad decisions and that's what's got to hurt because they put in a herculean effort in the second half. I'm sure everyone knows that second half is when we shine and they throttled us in our traditionally most advantages period. Your take on lomax and co as top of the heap is spot on.
As for greatest team at a rugby world cup....I can't see Dan Carter and Richie team not putting those points on the board so I can't agree with you there. We absolutely without a shadow of a doubt have had the most storied world cup journey ever though.
