I don't think the actor who plays Rottingham gets nearly enough credit. He gives what is single-handedly the best performance in the movie. It's so theatrical, big, and loud, it makes the perfect contrast to Cary Elwes' much more toned down Robin.
That actor is Roger Rees. He was a terrific actor. I saw him in the Royal Shakespeare Company's marathon production of Nicholas Nickleby, in the lead role. Wow! AIR, he was also in Cheers on TV.
Apparently, for dubs in other languages, they changed the line to take a dig at whatever actors have played Robin Hood in that country. If I'm remembering, the Hungarian dub says something like "Unlike other Robin Hoods, I don't have a flat ass".
The fact that Mr. Elwes filmed this when he was younger than 30 still amazes me. Which would put him at younger than 25 for filming The Princess Bride. One of my favorite actors.
The “Because unlike some other Robin Hoods, I can speak with an English accent.” joke was different in Italian, but it was pretty good too. It says "I'm not like the other Robin Hoods, I don't dance with wolves"
always thought it was hilarious how even though all characters are supposed to be English, Prince John has a New York accent, Achoo sounds like a guy from the hood, Rabbi Tuckman sounds Jewish, and Don Giovanni sounds like a stereotypical Italian Mafia don. and how Dirty Ezio looks like The Man With No Name from Sergio Leone's "Dollars Tilogy".
@@Davez621 Of course you can! In fact, it is also very easy to tell that Prince John not only has a New York accent, but a New York Jewish accent. Considering most of Eastern European Jewry spoke Yiddish and that huge numbers arrived in New York City in a relatively short span of time between the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, continuing to live mostly among themselves for several more decades, why shouldn't they be linguistically identifiable?
"I mean, don't you know it's illegal to kill a wild pig in the king's forest?" Robin Hood: "Is it not also illegal to sit on the king's throne and usurp his power in his absence?" I'm pretty sure in Medieval times, Prince Johns would be severely tortured and murdered for committing high treason cuz during those times, they do not take high treason very well.
“Because unlike some other Robin Hoods, I can speak with an English accent.”
That's true because fun fact Eroll Flynn and Kevin costner spoke American when they were Robin hood
@@kellimaclearn1998 --- it was even cringier when Russell Crowe played Robin Hood with an Australian accent LOL

100%
I think he was in If Looks Could Kill movie. 🤔
it's Roger Rees...
Lord John Marbury in The West Wing
That actor is Roger Rees. He was a terrific actor. I saw him in the Royal Shakespeare Company's marathon production of Nicholas Nickleby, in the lead role. Wow! AIR, he was also in Cheers on TV.
He was channeling Alan Rickman 🤣
"King illegal forest to pig wild kill in it a is!" That scene kill me every time!
Robin/Marion: What?
I have just that part on repeat 😂 I need to make it a ring tone!!
@@wchan39I think he had a couple of screws loose. Or chips maybe.
"King illegal forest to pig wild kill in it a is!" Lmao
I wonder how many takes that took. Hahaha
"What?"
"I mean, don't you know that it is illegal to a wild pig in the King's forrest?!"
Just as much as the Mila Kunis/Mark Wahlberg outtakes from "Ted" haha
For a trained Shakespearean actor? One take, I'll wager.
The real question is, how many takes did they make him do just to see if he'd flub it?
“That’s a wild pig. That’s a wild bore” Robin Hood just roasted prince John.😅
The dig at Kevin Costner. 😂😂😂
No joke, Costner was such a miscast as Robin of Locksley.
It should've been Tombstone's Val Kilmer instead.

"Treif" 😂😂 gets me every time lol. Rip Richard Lewis, you’ll be missed by many 😔
This scene proves you need a good sheriff to pull off a good Robin Hood movie. Alan Rickman was the best part of Prince of Thieves.
"I'm going to gut your heart out with a spoon!"
Impressive how Rotty scrambled that entire line in a coherent manner. Lol
Makes you wonder how many times he had to practice that line...
Richard Lewis just cracks me up as king richard😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 I hope it's worth the NOISEEEEEEEE!!!!!!
That's Prince John, not King Richard
@@AceLM92 yeah, King Richard's played by Patrick Stewart
RIP Richard Lewis. You may have played the king in Robin Hood Men in tights, but you were also the king of comedy. You will be sorely missed.
"That is a wild pig. *points at John* That is a wild boar (bore)." XD
1:16 the sheriff of nottingham is NAILING his yoda audition. lol
I was dying 😂
I’ve seen this movie enough times to have memorized Rottingham’s flustered, broken sentence
I still struggle with it 😂 my compliments
Same !
Rotty: *slaps Robin with his glove* I challenge you to a duel.
Robin: *picks up gauntlet and smacks Rotty with in, knocking him down* I accept.

Wow the one playing Maid Marion is even hotter than I remember. Goddamn
Even at 60 she is still quite beautiful 👍
Even the way everyone in that castle leered at Maid Marion because of her low-cut dress.
