  • It is one thing to be riding a machine and going by seat of the pants 'feel', but quite another to catch a culprit on video, and I think I may have done. Next up, I shall adjust the rear chain again, which seemed to become slack in no time at all since I adjusted it after moving the rear wheel over to line the sprockets up.

    Paul you stirred up some memories from the early 70’s. When I was working on Hondas we had big problems with the early pre “K” 750 four bangers throwing drive chains through the cases & destroying stuff! Honda motor co told us to remove the 16T output sprocket & the 45T rear sprocket & replace with a 18T/48T combination. After the change we had no more crunched cases! The final gearing remained close but Honda stated that the larger front sprocket put less strain on the chain! Thanks for waking up them brain cells!👍

    I was lucky to have a ride on Steve Saunders trifield a few days before he won the Scottish on it what a lovely bike to ride i thought it would be hard but it was easy

    The "jumping" sound seems to occur only when the secondary chain is in motion.

      This is better than a certain brand of Workshop manual that says little more than loosen the bolts , fit a new component and tighten up the bolts

    Just some thoughts, it looked like the primary jumping under load but not sure.
    Also most recent built trials specials have a tensioner on the main chain, mostly because there is more swinging arm movement built in than they would have had 50 years ago.

    I fervently hope that this is the right tack, and it is just down to the clumsy conversion and the way things have been set up. None of us watching can feel/experience what is really going on, so all we do is make suggestions bases on our experience, or if we've not had much of that, then hearsay!!

    I wonder if it might have been easier to see the final drive chain jump on film if u painted some links in a bright color.

    G'day Paul, yes it would be nice and l hope that's all it needs, the chain looked as if it was wiping up and hitting the engine case, you will see that in the video, I'm going too remove the engine from the frame on the Super rocket and split the cases, too see if any damage, finger crossed, cheers mate, Neil 🤠.

    I'd say the technical term for that rear chain is "knackered". Primary looks a bit slack to me, too

    Yikes there was some chatter in that primary chain as soon as you started her up. Why no adjuster or duplex one wonders.
    Moves like this should win you subscibers I reckon.
