Sounds a lot like the game master mode of divinity: original sin 2. Combined with the dev kit or something like that. It allowed players to create maps and campaigns of their own with the assets and mechanics of the game
Then you could interact in real time during the game as GM to add ennemies or control them.
I don't think it was perfect, but since it was made by the devs who work on baldur's gate 3, we might get it in the end.

What's funny about Dark Alliance is that you can make a game with the D&D setting and mechanics in a different game style and still have it work. Anyone remember the D&D arcades games? (Tower of Doom and Chronicles of Mystara?) Those were awesome, even if a bit bullshit at times. Like, imagine a modern version of those games in the gameplay style of something like Dragon's Crown.

A couple years ago (in fact, the same year this video was uploaded), I found out there was an indie video game studio in my city, founded by some former employees of BioWare, and their first projects all involved creating games based around D&D. And according to a job posting I saw... they were looking to hire a new writer. The writer would have been writing dialogue, and essentially a full encyclopedia of items, characters, locations, etc. Considering I had been an English major in university, I had a lot of practice writing fiction, and I loved tabletop gaming, I was SO excited to apply! But on the day that I submitted my application, the studio announced that they'd already chosen to hire someone else.
I can't express how devastated I was at the time.
What I can express, though, after watching this... is just how relieved I am, to think that I dodged... well. In not getting hired to work on hollow imitations of D&D, what did I dodge? A tactical nuke? Ahh. I should take peace in that.

But, for an extremely profitable company to attempt to make a DnD video game!? They have to understand the immense time, energy, forethought, and standard that players will bring from the IRL RPG to the video game. I’ll admit I had fun with friends joking as we went murder hobo since it’s what the game admitted to being but, (ignoring the fact every PC had some form of good alignment) all the fun halted when things were literally made impossible due to bugs, glitches, and everyone getting sick of being kicked from the game whilst just trying to return to the home base/camp or whatever.
