'Yellowjackets' Showrunners Spill All - Adam Was Almost Javi in the Future | Showrunners Sitdown

  • When “Yellowjackets” premiered on Showtime last fall, the show - about a girls’ soccer team trying to survive in the wilderness in 1996 after a plane crash, and the aftermath of that crash 25 years later - activated the internet in a specific and intense way. Theories on Reddit abounded, and since “Yellowjackets” had presented its high-school aged characters as cannibals in its pilot episode, nothing seemed off limits.

      Pretty Little Liars did that to their detriment…there’s so many incredibly smart theories that make so much sense online and even the actors thought certain characters could be the ‘big bad’ but it was so obvious the writers just wanted to pull one over on the viewer and it destroyed the show

      @@samanthacampbell4087 he wasn't "supposed to be", they just considered it among other versions befire writing something else. And on reddit ppl were still theorizing that he's Javi. Even though it's obviously wrong. To me it's obvious. I think those theories made no sense at all. Shauna would have recognized him, but also the actor doesn't look the same ethnicity as Javi. You don't have to agree, but these theories were still ongoing until this interview

    So crazy watching this back now we're 8/9 through S2, it looks like a lot of the plans changed since this discussion! So far we've not yet learned anything more about the cabin owner in S2, nor the man with no eyes (although he popped up once), nor the diaries.... so much suspense!

    They're doing a very good job at both rewarding ardent fans and still surprising us. This is also one of the shows with the biggest rewatch value I've ever seen, and we've only had 2 seasons so far. The foreshadowing and constant recontextualization are amazing.

      Agreed. Its awesome. The only thing is, based on my readinf of what happened in the first season and the trailer for the second season, I think I have a decent idea of whats going to happen, and I read they have a five season plan. If so, it seems like they are REALLY going to stretch things out. Particularly based on the season 2 trailer, it suggests the adult plot is going to move at a snails pace and though they may through in frurther misdirections (the whole blackmail plot basically set up the real threat of Lottie who killed Travis and kidnapped Nat) strecthing it out for five seasons seems like it will be an incredbile slog, especially given the production rate. My Understanding is the pilot was shot in 2019 but the first season was delyaed till 2021. I just saw it, but it but if the second season of ten episodes is going to run in march, this show wont wrap up till 2026. They could surprise me, but I think Ive figured out what basically happens from what we;ve seen so far. While I'm sure there will be misdirection and "filler", having that strectched out for four years seems way more then necessary.

    Adam being Javi was apparently a popular theory when the show was on (just binge watched over a few days) but really doesnt make much sense. I much prefer that its left at what it seems to be. He was just a regular guy who was a red herring in terms of seeming suspicious, and Shauna's paranoia cause her to kill a man she said was possibly the one. It speaks volumes about her character that she's rather non-chalant about it, and of course the disappearance will be a source of drama that will hang over the adult survivors. His lie about Pratt was explained and as far as not having an internet presence, some people just dont like to be on the internet.
    The only thing I'm not clear on- were the at first missing journals in Shauna's safe initially a hallucination? Thats what I assumed but the Onion review said they were just back there later which I hadnt considered. If that's the case, did her husband borrow them as reference for the blackmail then return them once he had the money? When (if at all were we shown the journals being in the safe previously? If he had already read them years ago and sent out the postcards with the symbol, why would he need them for the final part of the blackmail? Is who took them and then replaced them supposed to be a mystery? If so I would guess Cassie (Shauna;s daughter) wanted to learn more about what happened to the YelllowJackets and her mom's relationship with Gracie. However at the time I thought them iniitally missing might have been a hallucination, as hallucinations and visions seem to lead these girls/women towards mistrust and acts of violence.
    What did other people think? Were the initially missing journals a hallucination or did someone take them then put them back?
    Also worth noting, while Adan isn't the blackmailer or Javi, we aren't yet sure that he's completely on the up and up. The newscast said friends and family were looking for him, but there still could have been more to his courtship of Shauna.

      He wasn't Javi, but I don't think he was a random guy either. When (SPOILERS) Shauna kills him, there are tattoos on his body that match the symbols. For now, I think he might be been part of Lotties cult

      @ango8466 Před rokem +2

      I agree. I wouldn't want him to be Javi but I also wouldn't want him to be a nobody. He was a huge red herring, even the car accident seemed staged. Then the lies and the non social media present at his young age...

    Interesting watching this after S2. I love their approach to supernatural/not supernatural. It's very real, in that the supernatural in our world isn't dranatic like in movies, it's often much much more subtle, with possible explanations and strange coincidences just like in the show.

    great interview. Some of the questions were a little obnoxious though.
    My one thing about the first season is that it seems like jackie died too soon. Sure, it was a major event for the end of the season. At the same time- it feels like she was such an intrigual paert of the show, especially in relation to Shauna who is arguably the mainest of main characters, it maybe felt a little anti-climatic to have her be the second person to die (after the plane crash and in such a stupid way, from exposure exarcebated by her not eating. I feel like there was more to her character and her relationship to the other girls, especially Shauna, but its hard to see how shes going to fit in to the rest of the show other then as a death looming over the survivors.

    • @JC-yy8iv
      @JC-yy8iv Před rokem +7

      I was a little disappointed too but I do think there’s a point to it. It’s an escalation. We watched her slowly become ostracized in a way that echoes Ralph in Lord of the Flies, watched everyone slowly gang up on her as people do, and they didn’t literally kill her but they did in a way, since they forced her outside.
      So basically to me it’s a stepping stone toward them ostracizing and then actually murdering someone. It shows them leaning in that direction
