She has definitely went up in popularity the last few years. Kinda like cyborg when he became a justice league member. Nico did too when she became a Avenger in A-force. But if she actually got the big screen time in a movie then i think she be a A-class hero everyone who isn’t into the comics.

Regarding on the show's acting: To be fair, the actors was still relatively on the start of their career. Also, the acting is meant to be a little cringe since the target audience are teen-agers, and yes, I am saying teen-agers are cringey. That I can admit, because I remember enjoying this show so much three years ago. I dont think I'd enjoy it that much if I watch it now that I'm 21. Yet still, this show holds a special place in my heart.

In the comics you found out it's a wizard in the staff that only comes out during a equinox.He lost a fight with nicos ancestor where she gave him two choices.Be her weapon or die.
Also in the comics when nico met the witchbreaker her great grandmother she trained nico making her stronger in magic.Where nico could cast spells without the staff. Also she put a enchantment on nicos staff where if anyone but nico touched it it would turn to a demon and bite their head off.

I think her acting is good for the show level, she has really good acting skills in some isolated scenes. I personally think that she's one of those actresses that could be put in good use in MCU, i can't see other actress as Nico
The thing with Nico is she is never a boring character, she always has a great new look and always new fun spells to show

She’s a very powerful sorceress, but the staff has one major issue of not using the same spell twice in a row.
