The dedication to go back and reshoot at similar light is insane. I might have scrapped it all together if I made the mistake
I definitely had that thought, if only fit a moment
Dude this video was seriously good! The stuff that is now being made by CineStill, Lomography, Adox, Silbersalz, and others is really giving me hope the world of analog photography is in good hands. I also feel fortunate that I still have a few rolls of Pro400H to play around with. Also, that photo at 1:17 is my favorite! Such nice shape and motion coming from those rocks in the foreground.
I'm crossing my fingers! Thanks Reimann!
Always shocked by the production value on these videos Cody đđ»
keep it up
Thanks friend!
Just wanted to let you know, that I hate the notification bell option on CZcams but you are my one exception, just activated it to never miss any of your videos. As always loving the quality and effort you put in every single shot, keep it up budd, love your channel and your shots!!
Honored to be the exception. Thanks a million, Alex!
notif gang too from now on I guess!
@@muris60 hell yeah!
12:08 - Donât forget Ektar, thatâs also a professional C41 stock
Always a visual treat with this series. Love it!
Man it pains me to see how underrated you are ! Everything from the photos to video production is immaculate cody ! You deserve the world
Thanks for another great video. Really appreciate your writing and dedication, going so far as to reshoot the photos at the same time of the day.
Loved this video Cody! I'm really impressed that you went back and shot the photos and that I never noticed while watching the video. Keep it up!!
This deserves so much more views! Your channel is a true inspiration Cody â€ïž
Brilliant vid. Such fantastic effort and production value - the results show!
the production quality and the content is just so good! i can tell how much time you put into these. great video cody!!
Been there done that took 7 frames on my bronica of my granddaughter before i realized the dark slide was in. the roll only has 12 so i got 5 frames on that roll live & learn.
that intro was so slick! In fact, you're honestly amazing at the cinematography of these videos. Loved the bit on the bridge!
I canât compliment you enough mate, this video and the photos throughout are incredible! đđŒ
The intro for this video hyped me up. Loved the combination of outdoors and film photography. Amazing work my dude ! đ«Ą
amazing video, love the series!
Excellent video and a lot of great shots taken! Keep it up bud!
Another great video! Love it
Dude. These photos are way too good! Love the video đđ»
I really enjoyed this video. And you take beautiful videos. I enjoyed taking the journey with you.
Every time I'm amazed by your editing and production of these videos. You deserve more subscribers!
You're too kind Guillaume. Thank you!
@@Codacolor let me know if you ever get to Houston or Texas!
Please do more videos đđđ
Saw one of your videos while browsing through CZcams and daaaamn. They are so well done! Like shit! You are really good at it. Like outstanding good! Like 30 year old champagne food! Like a really good original pizza Neapolitan good. Like the sip of water during the night good! Like⊠ok I think I made my point clear.
What I would really like to see:
-how to scan and edit your photos
-more review on films
- key to b&w photography
- usage is filters like gnd
- double exposure tutorial
- how to focus, which aperture to use (like in landscape: when should I blur the foreground, when should I use f 16?)
-composition
-rules in photography and when to break
I know there are already videos about that, but I want to see them your style.
Another banger of a video, always on point. Excited by your announcement to start posting more! looking forward to more incredible shots.
Thank you brother!
Had a stressful week at work and not having a good day so I decided to watch some videos on youtube. Watched this and I feel much more relaxed. Subbed
i love everything you post
Amazing video, as usual!
man, ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL work, got me to subscribe after one video.
14:55 What? You are crazy! If this isn't dedication to your craft I don't know what is.
Very pleasing photos.
YEAAARRRGHHHH NEW CODY VIDEO LETS GOOOOO
Really looking forward to more from this series. Also it takes some real dedication to go back and reshoot everything lmao
Amazing video dude! Not sure why your Mamiya is letting you release the shutter when the dark slide is still covering the film back. I also have a 645 pro TL and it doesn't let me do that, might want to get it checked out.
Couldnât agree more. I donât have a Mamiya but my other medium format cameras donât allow the shutter to be fired with the slide in. These were only used by pros back in the day and thatâs an unacceptable liability as a pro.
The trampoline picture is so cool! Definitely going to use that one as inspo!
Love this series! Just shot my first two rolls of 120 film: 400H and Delta 3200! Wanna try Portra soon
Notification gang, cannot wait
Just got my first medium format last month and half of the time during my first three rolls, I'd leave my dark slide on and forget to take them off. Haha! I feel your struggle. Awesome video! Thank you for the value you've put into these stuff. More power.
Great video Cody!
Thanks so much dude!
Looks like a nice life you've been living man, glad to see you killing it!
Thank you, brother!
Fantastic video â€ïž
Beautiful images
One of the many things I love about my Contax 645. The shutter will not fire with dark slide in place.
That aside, really great video. Somehow Iâve missed your channel to date, but Iâm now subscribed.
Thatâs also supposed to be the case with the mamiya so Iâm wondering if something is not quite right on Codyâs. Mine doesnât let me fire with the dark slide in and has saved me multiple times already.
You are so talented â€
Your pictures are AMAZING ! đź
Thank you :)
Well done!
dude, it's alright, I didn't notice anything, buttt the video was so satisfing and calming to watch because of the perfect quality, thank you for making this.
Really enjoyed that video Cody! Well done! And donât sweat it, I shot a whole roll with the Mamiya 645 with the lens on âMâ instead of âAâ đ
Love this series! Thank you for this, and I hope these stock overviews keep coming. Especially admire the dedication to return and salvage the concept from the darkslide abyss (Mamiya SLR probs, amirite?). Just a heads up, I went to see if one of the images from this was in your linked print shop, but the link in the description is being redirected to a Darkroom login page.
Thank you, Stephen! Yes. This summer has been crazy busy but I'm definitely going to add another installment to the series here this fall! And thank you for pointing out the print shop link. The old print shop has been decommissioned. If there's a specific image you're interested in, DM me on Insta and I can facilitate a special order.
Beautiful.
Beautiful video
And may I say.. at risk of sacrilege. you are getting close to the Anthony Bourdain of film photography. Great stuff bro..
its beautiful
Love this video đ€
it loves you!
This guy is so under rated he has pro quality vids and awsome photo style keep up the work
Thank you! Much more to come!
That is dedication if I've ever seen it
Hey Cody, also just picked up a Mamiya 645 Super and on my model it doesnât let me fire with the dark slide in. So not sure if you also have the Super or maybe the Pro or another Model and itâs different there. But it could also be that either the camera or film back has something going on. Not being able to fire with the dark slide in has already saved me several times.
But besides that, Iâm truly blown away by your videos. The production and dedication is next level!
Artfully crafter video and excellent photography as always. Not C-41 but thereâs always Ektachrome and to some extent, ProviaâŠ
so talented
Well, that's lifeđ! Way to go!
In terms of the professional stocks from Kodak, Ektar 100 is still around. While itâs not neutral and has some color casts and quirks, itâs the finest color negative film shock around and itâs perfect for the type of work you love to do, landscapes. While itâs funny that Kodak labeled it âprofessionalâ when itâs only because itâs now available in 120, Gold 200 in 120 is amazing. More saturated, but much more flexible than Ektar or itâs 35mm version since it seems to be a bit different. Gold is my favorite, and hip hip hooray because itâs still very affordable (might not be the case for too much longer)
Damn dude, you are talented. You and GXAce should team up. Two of the best compositional eyes on CZcams. Plus, you're both film nerds :). Glad to see some Mamiya 7 love. I hope you get it back from the shop soon! Give the RZ67 + Zinstax back a try if you want something really different and enjoyable!
There's something really charming about going back to shoot all of these shots. I thought the lighting didn't quite match up and it all makes sense now!
Sharp eye you have there!
Man, what an incredible video. Although I don't really shoot film myself, I keep coming back to your videos, mostly for the cinematography, if I'm being honest. Would you consider doing a video on your process? I understand that such "behind the scenes" content might fit better on your Patreon, but it's worth asking here anyway :) Also, kudos for not scrapping the entire video because of your mistake, it turned out amazing and I personally wouldn't have noticed it if you hadn't addressed it!
Thanks dude! Definitely planning to foray a bit into filmmaking centric content in the future. Stay tuned!
Just wanna let you know, that you and Brae are my favorite CZcamsrs for Film Photography. I hope one day youâd get to collab with each other.
That sounds fun. Perhaps one day!
I saw the dark slide and thought okay he just forgot to pull it for the B-roll. But you went back and reshot each shot? Damn man... just damn. Way to go.
Haha keen eye my friend!
Great video. As someone else already suggested, your camera may need to be serviced. Seems odd that a medium format camera would allow the shutter to be released when the dark slide is in.
There's only a few photographers I wanna meet, and you're one of the three lmao. I love your videos. Thank you for making content to keep me inspired at work so I can go out after and shoot myself đ đ
Honored to be up there, Billy. Perhaps one day!
@@Codacolor perhaps, but for now, thank you for the amazing content! âșïž
This is what me and Cody criticize about digital photography. You can't get Grainy shots at sunset with a digital camera. Just translates to digitization. Same goes with scanning and enlarging a photo with a digital scanner. You get digitization if you stretch it versus a clear image with a traditional photo enlarger. You get clarity. If you want to get grainy shots on portra 400. Just over expose at the 60th and 30th of a second and you have great contrast with beauo colors.
Nice video.
btw I also finally about to start shooting on film. But thinking to do that not in a regular way, lol.
Amazed by the care taken with the cinematography too - how did you capture 6:38?
Thanks, Royston! and with lots of patience
Hey Cody! Loved the video! I really like your style of film photography. I'm really new to film and I was wondering if you are exposing for shadows or do you just take an overall meter of the scene and expose for that?
Welcome, Saul! I actually have a very comprehensive video breaking down exactly how I meter. It should answer any questions you have!
@@Codacolor Thank you!
I have a 645 and it will not let me release the shutter if the dark slide is in place. Thanks for the great video. I really enjoyed it. I wonder why your setup allowed you to shoot those images with the slide in place?
Just discovered you and i am falling in love ! Thank men, you are an inspiration. Oh and a question : I own a olympus om2n for about 3 years and i am considering to buy a canon eos 3. Do you think its a good idea ? I am a student (in langages) so i dont have a lot of money but is the gap between this two camera very big ?
Again love you men and keep going !!
Thank you so much. And welcome! The EOS 3 is a fantastic camera, and relatively inexpensive. Can't recommend it highly enough!
I'm amazed the shutter can be released with the dark slide in situ. It's not possible with a Hass 500c/m.
Good effort for reshooting!
I think Kodak Gold is now available in 120. Ektar is still available, too, I think.
me too. oh well ÂŻ\_(ă)_/ÂŻ
It sounds like you have an issue with your mamiya 645/back the dark slide should block the shutter. It's been a while since I shot with mine but it was my first and I shot it a lot. I made the mistake of leaving the dark slide in a lot and always would be left wondering why the shutter wouldn't fire. Great video otherwise :) which lenses are you rocking on the 645? I like the 70mm a lot
If that intro is reality of owning medium format camera with porta 400 by your left hand I want one please!
Great and informative video as always...what light meter do you use?? I just picked up a m645, need more then sunny 16...or carry my digital...thx
Thanks so much! The meter I use is a Sekonic L-558I love it. If you want to see more of me using it in the field, check out my video "How to meter for film photography." Cheers!
Quality video Cody - but I have to say my 645 Pro TL will not allow me to take images when the darkslide is in...
Yeah, I'm realizing that mine isn't supposed to let that happen . . . :/
Kodak is lucky to have you
What was the video shot on, the Sony? Amazing shots of video and film!
It was indeed!
I have a question. Is kodak 160 compatible if i use the reusable camera film? Like kodak cam or something similar
My bronica wonât shoot if the slide is in. Anyway, very nice vid. Well done and your composures are great.
My Hasselblad 503cx will not let you take a picture with the dark slide in or take the film back off when the dark slide is out. Kinda of handy.. GRINS
Hey, Cody, If you don't mind me asking, were the pics shot on 120 from 4:03 to 4:11? 645 ? Thanks! Those are looking really nice, I didn't know 645 was capable of producing these high quality images.
Thanks Samuel! The photos were captured on the California coast, in an Arizona forest and at an Oregon lake, in respective order. They aren't all 645. The first one of the steering wheel is a 6x7, the next is 35mm and the third is 645. hope this helps!
@@Codacolor Incredible Cody! I definitely wasn't expecting this answer, but it does help. The first indeed looks the best in terms of image quality and resolution. But the 2nd one WOW 35mm film that's impressive!
The good news is you had a chance to recompose with the van where you wanted it. :P
Very true!
photography youtubers be uploading the most beautiful cinematic videos and only get 200 views
great video! May I ask how do u get your music for editing the video plss
musicbed!
Bro, i love your video's color, i have a7s3 too, how i achieve those color to my video ?! Love to hear from you.
is there a term for porta ''you metered it brown''? sometimes it pops in my head, that there should be Xd
@8:33 one can only imagine how a 6x12 would look like
Whaaaaaaaat were those drums in the opening from? I gotta find that id.
Shoutout film fridge Mag
what lens are you using? nice photos btw!
55-110 mm!
are those DK drum samples in the intro??
Film photography is great but doubtful it will be around in the future, it all comes down to demand and cost of making film in the end. It will be too expensive eventually.
What about Ektar? Thatâs a professional C-41 for landscapes
Dude! What kind oh hat are you wearing in the video? The one with the yellow circle
Tycho! One of my favorite artists
I have a few rolls of Elektra gpx 160, 160VC and NC... still too scared to use them. They need to be honoured. Ill wait a month or two... untill theyre completely expired haha.
There is something wrong with the camera. It shouldn't let you shoot with darkslide in...
Not familiar with the 645 pro tl but I thought it was a bit weird it let me shoot with it in. oh well ÂŻ\_(ă)_/ÂŻ
they became so expensive!
