This is not a Derry girls rip off, it’s based on a play that was about years ago. It went to the Edinburgh fringe then completed a west end run. Ya’ll can like both calm down.
Actually it's from a fantastic novel written by Alan Warner called "The Sopranos", that was also the inspiration for "Our Ladies of Perpetual Succour" the play you're talking about (which was also awesome!), which came out in the 90's! So the question has to be, where did Derry Girls get their idea from??!!
Lmao at everyone moaning about this being a rip off of Derry girls when it’s based on a book and play much older than Derry girls, with a different tone and set in a different country. How is it the US can make hundreds of tv shows and movies about high school life but as soon as 2 different countries bring out their own versions they get compared immediately? The only similarities between this and Derry girls is that it’s about Catholic high school girls. That’s it!
Obviously not a rip off, but they're still surfing on that Derry Girls popularity. Which is fair to be honest. But I'm not sure a producer would have agreed to adapt this story if they weren't sure they could make money off of it - which they can because of Derry Girls. Again though, it's fair.
This is just a thing that people do. If anything is remotely similar it's a RIP of etc... I rememeber people calling The Worst Witch a Harry Potter rip off, like what? Or that Euphoria is a Skins rip off. People seem to be under the impression that there can only be one show about a particular subject matter
It was indeed brilliant. Best movie I've seen in a long long time. I was hoping yo catch Kylah's opening credits song here, but found the trailer instead. I'll just have to watch the movie again tonight.
None of them are even "chubby". How about we check ourselves about the toxic mentality of looking at women who aren't stick skinny as "chubby" or "bigger". The actress is thin, normal and healthy in her body shape.
@@dopaminefiend6182 Look Juanita, we understand you getting mad, but that doesn't change reality. You are the one stigmitizing the word chubby here, for us is not something wrong.
@@Zelielz1 I'm not mad at anything, it's just funny that people are discussing one stereotype while upholding another at the same time. The same female characters we talk about being the "chubby comedian" aren't even chubby, they have a normal average weight and a healthy bodyshape/size. Healthy and average bodies shouldn't be seen as "chubby". This contributes to a very toxic body image mindset for a lot of young people.
this girls similar to my sisters and cousins dressed during their teen years in the 90s , I was a little girl back then in 1996, I remember the wild, fun and free style girls they were by just seeing the trailer of this movie
Derry Girls and this seem to have a very different tone. Just because they’re both abt catholic school girls and Americans can’t tell out accents appart doesn’t mean they’re the same lol. Derry girls is a serial comedy set in n.ireland Our ladies looks like a coming of age drama/comedy set in scotland (based on a book, so it can’t be “copying” Derry Girls, bcos it’s source material is a book older than Derry Girls)
It's not a Derry Girls Rip off as it has its source own material, and I am not in the know as to when this went into production, but what I think most people are saying is that this movie will certainly benefit from the enormous popularity Derry Girls has received. Its release could not be timed better, lets just put it that way. Having said that, I'm sure to watch!
Everyone is talking about how everyone is talking about this being a Derry girl rip off but no one is actually talking about it being a ripoff cuz they too busy talking about the nonexistent people talking about it being a rip off....if that makes sense.
It's funny, so funny and FYI it's absolutely NOTHING like Derry Girls and for those saying it's a rip off.... Watch Our Ladies, then watch Derry Girls straight after cos you clearly weren't watching either properly. OL is in Scotland, Catholic school girls singing in a choir comp and young, hormonal and wanting a lot of fun. DG is Northern Ireland, Catholics and protestants, 3 girls and English James, lots of laughs not much bonking.... I'm a fan of both OL and DG and they're not similar in any way
Ruuux S Yes I am, I’m one of the choir girls. At 00:03 seconds in I’m at the front far left with the rest of the choir girls. I have photos with the director if u would like to see? I think I’m stupid enough to say a comment like that without proof??
Ruuux S hahah yes they are, but your also missing out Tallulah, Sally, Eve and Bethany Tennick who are all English actresses. I actually don’t aspire to be in film I just did it because I was given the opportunity and it was good fun. Literally hit me up on any of my social media’s and I’ll show u all the photos and videos from when we were filming. No need for u to be so rude. My Facebook is my name of u wanna see proof. But I won’t be called a liar cause it “makes me seem cool”. Also don’t really care if u don’t believe me cause I know I did it.
I’ve been scrolling through tge comments for like 3 minutes and I’ve seen about 7 comments about why this isn’t a Derry girls rip off and not a single one about why it is-
Everyone saying it’s a Derry Girls rip off really can’t tell the difference between an Irish and Scottish accent?
First of all: Obviously not.
Secondly it can still have similar tone and subject..
J JK yeh it’s like basically the same thing just diff accents
Ach their bums oot the windae!
Its based on a book in 1998 The Sopranos by Alan Warner
Ashie Bae so it’s based on the HBO tv show?

Thank for the info.

Not really..? I mean, that sounds cool, though 😂

Yes, but I'm scottish. Plus I was on set when some of this movie was filmed. My car is in this trailer :)

I am confident a number of Scottish bands from the 80s-90s will appreciate the royalty cheques.
Big Country and Orange Juice were 80s but yeah. :D

This reminds me of Wild Child
I like teen movies.... when they actually look like teens 😭
They are, and I can tell you that was a bit weird on set.. Can't tell you much but the fressh meat scene felt very odd to be in
Id love to not have phones and social media anymore
What a difference there was!
the chubby girl is the "Comedian." shocker.
Honestly don't know how movie makers aren't tired of this same old tired trope
Well thats generally reality too...

Didn’t anyone notice Orla from Millie Inbetween 😂
it's based on the novel THE SOPRANOs by Alan Warner.
It's basically Wild Child of 1996- which means it's going to be good
THE QUESTION IS WHERE CAN I WATCH THIS
I wanna watch this just for the accents haha
I would watch this, while I was high😎
Does anyone know if this is streaming anywhere?

This looks like a good movie just wondering Is Orla a popular name over there?
Leah no it’s not popular
Yes it is! I know three, one's my cousin!
i live in scotland and don’t know a single person called orla

It's very popular in Ireland
It's like the female, catholic, less existential version of Trainspotting
