Dreads are for some & dreads aren't for some , it's what makes them so unique, much love dread gang 💪🏼🔥💯🙏🏼
Lmao it definitely does work. I thought it was for curls only, and began using it on my mohawk. Fast forward 2 years later I have a dreadlocked Mohawk. I am today years old when I learned that sponge was meant for dreads 😂😂😂😂🤦🏾♂️
Mohawks are doodoo
@@KiouTM no
@@KiouTM Your Face Is DooDoo 🥺😳
Mohawks as
whats your hair type i think i have 2a will it really make small locs or sum?
Im no expert but I think the curlier your hair is the better it will work. I have a 4a hair type and we've been growing our hair for around the same time. I've been using a sponge for about 2-3 weeks and a little bit of locking gel and my hair is forming pretty well. In 2 weeks I'm gonna get a high top fade and then freeform from there so I can have a similar style to 2017 xxxtentacion but without bleaching it.
Bro your facial expression looking at the sponge is priceless 😂 great content fam! Going on 5 months
I started wit the sponge then the towel and so far coming along good🔥🔥
You need smaller holes on a sponge i use that and i got semi freeform dreads it works better on our hair pattern 💪🏾💯
How it look?
Whats the sponge that you used?

That is the dreadlock sponge I use it twists Your hair really well
Aye I have the same hair type so you recommend me getting a sponge with more holes or smaller one ?
it's something you gotta use over time. u can't make dreads with it in one day 😹😹😭
Or you could just wash your hair every 2 weeks and not comb it
A couple of years ago I had started dreads with a sponge when my hair was short. But I restarted so much times because I was impatient. So this time I'm gonna try freeform for the first time I'm excited. My hair is about an inch only so I'm excited that I started my freeform journey and also I've been taking pictures everyday. Which reminds me time to take a pic of my hair bye
Goodluck man hope you enjoy your dreads
Good luck on your journey!!
Good luck! I have freeform dreads and they don't take that much effort but it is good to twist individual strands of hair often. I've had free form dreads for about a year and a half. The process is going good but on bad days my hair looks terrible and loosed height.
how’s the progress bro?

Getting my second set of dreads
Old Gunther n the process was nice to watch u jus showing now how to get locs different ways...but u can do diff hairstyles since the Afro...but keep up the drive n motivation
Hey! This video is very helpful, wanted a little bit of advice - I have quite long hair, curly by genetics, yet look more straight. Have had 1 dread for over 3 years and it's grown to the same length as the rest of my hair. My hair, when going down both sides and split down the middle, go roughly a bit under my jaw. Would such long hair be any problem for this method? And would there be extra maintenance required? Did this for my first time today, *immediately* went from relatively straight&hard hair to dread-textured hair. Now just have to wait for locs to form.
Been rocking with you for a long time my guy. Inspired me to make my own channel. Keep grinding bro 🔥
Gunther your almost at 400k omg
I used a towel then freeforming with separation worked great for me
I wish that method worked for me. When I freeformed it only worked with the sponge
@@IsThatTeddy don't get me wrong it looked crazy for a good year but after that I was good
You ever think about making a tutorial video? I could react to it to show more people the process
I have been doing this and they are coming out good it's been a month now
Update i wanna see em bro
@@nokaapdee1118 sure
Rubbing everyday?
I started with the sponge method
how long does it take for the locking bundle to come its been 2 days and i got the 1 to 3 day shipping and its still only processing
I have locs.
Just stared them 9 years and 4 months ago.
how many of y’all got loc pubes? never had them til i dreaded my hair
Aayyyooo
Dude wallin 🤣🤣
Bro what?
whatttt lmaooo
I'm not gonna act as if I didn't try a few times but no just no
i love your intro bro
The best method for me was the towel method. I'd love to see if anyone else feels the same
Thats so funny ive just started using the sponge method yesterday
Trust me just keep using it my dreads are coming out so fire but once it gets longer I suggest the towel but the sponge is really helpful
Me too lmao
Free form?
Try the TWIST IT UP COMB..it works so much better than the sponge
I got 3c and use the sponge technique
I once sponged my hair and it looked like lil baby dreads. I sponged my hair while it was long.
Gunther i git the same hair as you and i have semi freeform dreads since the beginning of the year and the tips wont lock and i don't wanna crochet hook help please respond 💪🏾🙏🏾
You gotta use loc gel to get it right.
gunther: hasn't done method in one month
also gunther: Does it work!?!?!?!
I'm growing dreads using the using the sponge now. I JUST posted it on my channel. Tell me how I did, 💜.
It work's better with coarse hair then the curly hair more because it's more thick and neater that way.
What happens if u use the sponge the wrong direction? Luckily I had waves before I started my dreads and brushed them clockwise and I sponge my hair clockwise so I should be good regardless right?
I'm guessing your favorite dreadloc tool is the crochet needle? Also I love your vids bro
How often should I twist my starter locs
So are you going to eventually going to freeform them?
So he creates a whole 12 minute video to tell us how a sponge didn’t work…only Gunther 🤣
He needed them ads
It does it’s just his hair is 3c and it works great with type 4 thick dense hair
@@skullxwrapper9968 that and he didn’t give it enough time. Yes you can get the LOOK of Locs but time is what locs the hair. Just a couple of sessions is not going to work. He didn’t put in enough effort.
@@Desaundrea Thats kinda true but at the same time, I have curly hair too and my first time using the sponge it had way better results then what he had, his hair type doesn't work with a sponge as well as others
@@w00daperky67 true as well 👏🏽🥰
Can I use the sponge to lock up new growth? I have comb coils. It’s half way locked
Yes you can
Can I use head and shoulder to wash my twist
My hair currently is 4-5 inches can I still use the sponge to get dreads?
started my dreads a week ago. after sponging for like 15-30 mins a day for a week, the twists seem so small im thinking about restarting. guess we'll see what happens next
What happened to the method from your last vid?
I think it all depends on your hair type. My hairs very thick so it just creates big cones.
same ong
Works for me too good lol, I got the *tightest* curls ong
I find it interesting that me and you stopped waving at around the same time but your hair look like it’s growing faster
Just food for thought
Maybe because ur hair is damaged?
I have been using a dread sponge on my almost exclusively since I started my locks. I took me a while to get them to dread but when they did it looked decent. it is hard to deal with regrowth for me and recently I have been considering trying a different method when trying to deal with the regrowth. I have not retwisted my hair myself (which is probably part of the problem). I would recommend this method for some looking for a quick and easy method to creating dreadlocks but they do not look as appealing as I originally imagined
I know this is gonna sound crazy i have the same texture as you i use a tennis racket
How many times do I have to use the sponge? I’m just starting out today and they already curling up pretty good
Im trynna figure out the same thing
It depends in your hair type. If you have any type of 4 then use it every other day. And don't wash your hair alot, probably once a month
Stay consistent with it so daily and make sure your hair stays dry and clean it will lockup in no time
Also I’m a big fan
Whats the difference between both sides of the sponge
Are finger/comb coils a good way to get dreads?
for starting yeah
Bro I sponge my hair and when I wash it all the twist unravel. And I have 4C hair. So I don’t wash my hair anymore.
🔥 🔥 🔥
Wow
Work perfect for my hair even tho I'm doing semi Freeform, gotta be patient ....if you getting regular dreads you might as well get ya normal retwist , the sponge prolly not for all types
I thinks it's because ur hairs to loose it has nothing to grab on its works best on the 4 hair tyoe since it's so dense
Finger coil it, let the coils sit for an hour, then sponge twist it
It worked for me to get starter dreads, but I took them out cause i decided i didnt want em
Bc of your texture of hair. Wit my texture, the foam brush would have mine completly twisted
Hey I was wondering if my hair is straight bordering on the curly hair type if I curl my hair then can I use the Spong rub???
no you need 3b minimum
Maybe u can get a perm and do finger coils and then sponge rub n crochet hook do it all bro do what works
how to avoid bald spots with dreadlocks?
How do you grow ur hair soo fast
I'm still in my starter locs phase but I actually started with sponge rub
That’s how I started my first set, now I’m doing the traditional method, good luck on your journey!
@@IsThatTeddy thank you back to you
I used the sponge and the brush method
Me too how long did u sponge ur hair
@@fnx6_nomnom812 for like a week or two I got my hair locked now I'm just letting it grow though atm I need a retwist
😶🌫️me realizing that I be sponging my hair too much and hoping I don’t get that traction alopecia thingy, cuz I already got a lil hair loss prior to this whole loc journey. But at least now I have learned
I started mine with a sponge and some lock and twist gel and it’s been a year and my dreads are almost down to my shoulders it worked good for me I don’t know what hair type I have but I am of mixed race
It’s working for me 6 months in but definitely took loads of time to take form, not fully locked yet though
Which side
The spikey side is for longer hair
Idk if it works but ik my brother uses it and it makes a mess that he acts like he can’t clean up.
i fell towel rub and smie free form is he way to go
Got the same hair type as you it’s a struggle with the sponge I gave up on it
Try a microfiber I have 3b hair and its currently working for me
I still kinda wish he never combed out the 5 head congo dread.
This guy seems pretty nice
I started with a brush
When are you actually going to get dreads?
When I rub clockwise, my hair becomes anticlockwise
Same
I wonder why tho 😂
then rub counterclocc wise
I just started my first set of locs with a sponge just a few days ago should i wash my starter locs or leave it be cause i just feel like if i wash my hair it will unravel(i have 4c hair if that matters)
You should wait especially if you just installed them a few days ago. You should wait at two weeks.
@@deanikiliagwu1595 ok thank you
I do clockwise on one side and counter clockwise on the other I’m using the towel now
Dont do that because it twists opposite direction
@@alexagriner3871 it works for me
3a wold work with dread sponge and only wahing the hair once a week for 8 weeks than stop youshold have alot of dread buds
It does work there for starting freeform and semi. Just doesn’t work well on ur hair type
Yo I got a crochet needle and an interlocking tool form greatlocs.com and after countless hours of watching your videos I finally did my own dreads and they turned out great. God bless you, however when I interlocked some of my dreads had a hole left in them at the root from where the tool entered/came out. Anyone know how to fix that? Should I be concerned or is it not a huge problem?
careful how you interlock your hair, you might be breaking the hair at the roots. which will be harmful in the long-run.
@@johnyght55 Oh shoot. So the holes I got in the roots at the moment what would I do to fix that? or should I leave it and just stop interlocking? Because I interlocked my front two and they were perfect, I interlocked probably 5 others and I think three of which got holes left in them, even though I did the same interlock process and the same way across all of them. Is there even anyway I can fix the current holes? or like I said should I just leave it?
@@jaywells4023 idk but i would say leave it because your hair is constanly growning .
@@asaelmoss6115 Alright man, thank you both for helping. :)
@@jaywells4023 Don't worry, don't interlock those dreads again for now. and for the holes, those will disappear, you kept pocking through that specific root a lot thus the hole formations. Next time you interlock, poke the dread once or twice ''Front>Left>Back>Right'' then maybe repeat once more. because you don't want to break your hair into the locks.
What is the intro?
I wonder what is ultimate hairstyle goal is?
My hair it’s so dirty and so frizzy I start my dreads with the crochet hook method but I am waiting to grow my side to get a full headed set of dreads with extensions
