In this episode, Saurabh Dwivedi talks about Northern Alliance 2.0, getting ready to fight against the Taliban in Afghanistan. The Northern Alliance was created in the year 1996 after the Taliban seizure of Capital Kabul. Its Architect was the lion of the Panjsher valley, Ahmed Shah Massoud. He was a Mujahidin fighter in the war against the Soviet Union. After the Communist government fall, Ahmed Shah Massoud was offered the post of Defence Minister in the Interim government.
Northern Alliance gained support from India, Iran, Russia and many other neighbouring countries. While the Taliban government was supported by Pakistan and Arab countries.
The fight between the Taliban and Northern Alliance never reached a conclusion. Yet, the Taliban could never get Panjsher valley. This was the power of Ahmed Shah Massoud.
Now, His Son Ahmed Massoud is inviting Mujahidin fighters to wage a war against the Taliban 2.0. Acting president of Afghanistan Amrullah Saleh is also calling for resistance. Afghan people are again taking the fight into their own hands. The centre of this uprising is again Panjsher, literally meaning the valley of five lions.
How powerful is Northern Alliance 2.0? Which countries will support them? Can they fight the Taliban?
