    Aussie here… yes you can turbo the 1HZ but not worth it imo.
    Some people just slap a turbo on and blow holes thru the top of their pistons… if you go that route there are dedicated rebuild kits that include ceramic top piston’s, 1HD-T conrods, larger gudgeons, etc, and then you have the cost of the rebuild itself.
    Far simpler to sell the stock 1HZ and use that money (including the cost of the rebuild and the kit) and for the same price buy a 1HD-T or a 1HD-FT that was actually engineered to give you the results you’re chasing.
    Trying to do things on the cheap ends up costing you twice as much in the long run 🙂

    • @CruisingTheLand
      @CruisingTheLand  Před 2 lety +5

      very true. I feel the 1HZ is fine... sure anyone wants more power, but to me I would rather keep the reliability. It still cruises at 80mph (125kms) at 2200 rpms, just takes time to get there.

      For a video teaser... The 4 cyl Turbo diesel 300TDI in the Defender, is incredibly surprising, faster and peppier than the 1HZ, or even a 12HT.
      However, build quality, thr LC leaves the Defender in the dust...
      But the Defender is much more reliable than Land rover products after it (Discos, RR etc.. ) Land Rover was Lamd Rover back then, bur since changed ownership hands too many times.

    Great vid. I have a 75 series with the 2H and a big snail. The 12HT was just the turbo version of the 2H but obviously DI instead of IDI which means you can swap them into the 75 easy as because the block was the same so same engine mounts and gearbox but id say the 2H can handle a turbo way better than a 1HZ just due to being older so was made stronger and not made to be light and more efficient like the 1HZ and the 2H being OHV opposed to the 1HZ being SOHC it has less power but has more torque at lower RPM (especially with a turbo) but great to see my favourite engine over in the states, bit hard to find a 12HT in good condition over here in Australia, i may be a little jealous 😆

Also looking for to install an intercooler, up the injectors to +30, getting a 3 inch exhaust and finally mounting a beefed up Gturbo. The HZJ73 is all original, except for the lift/tires and front Bumper. These are all things that can be reversed and put bacl to OEM spec.
      However, I much prefer the 73 lifted, completely changes the vehicle and its offroad capability.
      I dont modify the mechanical parts (engine, turbo, radiator etc...) just suspensions. But there is a reason on higher mileage Landcruisers that when shocks go, people upgrade to OME or others... because its better. For instance, put King Shocks on my 80 Diesel. But Kings would make any vehicle superior to Factory.
      Only vehicle I have that is heavily modified is my FJ40... It has 80 rear axle, 60 front axle, V8 Vortec, Orion transfer case, SM420 trans etc .. but it is a crawler.
