- I tried to get Minsc but it didn't work out, my only save I had where I didn't enter the circus with, Jaheira was dead. I was unable to recruit him without her, very unfortunate.

Gale threatens to blow himself up whenever anyone/thing mildly annoys him, it's hilarious.
Considering how diverse the companions are in terms of ideology; I love that one of the few points they all agree on is that being forced to get on stage with a clown is the absolute worst

I love that she's the only one who seems to crack puns of the same caliber? Also, her and Karlach are the only two who seem to approve (unless I missed something).
The fact that she actually had a punchline and, as you said, defeatedly delivered it before getting up on stage... I was not expecting that for her and it actually broke me.
Man, I stg minthara is like the best companion in this game conceptually (albeit she could do with more story beats). Shadowheart has my heart but Minthara just has so much good dialogue that runs the whole range.
Astarion's "I'mgoingtofuckingkillyou" got me.

I would've call that "chill". Halsin tries to wiggle out of it with that stuff he makes up about "local customs", and Wyll isn't thrilled either.

I kid you not minthara is based for a villain.
I think narratively, that was one of the billion other moments for the writing to humanize Minthara as a character. They did a really great job at that.
She sounds so defeated saying it too.
Like, "the law requires me to finish this dad joke."

Astarion saying "I'm going to fucking kill you" doesn't sound nearly as intense as Shadowheart's "I'd advice you find someone to taste your food from now on."
Here's the thing. When Astarion says something like that he wants to deter you from doing it. When Shadowheart says it... she doesn't want deterrence. She wants revenge.
Genuinely, that was more serious threat than Gale saying he can level the city.

I like that you have to offer them twice, that is a very subtle nod to the fact that none of your companions can dodge a dog despite literally beating an avatar of Myrkul barely a day before this
I picked Gale and honestly, his subtle "I can nuke this whole city to kingdom come" threat forced a good chuckle from me

Astarion's reaction and facial expression are so realistic. Overall this whole game is realistic due to motion capture being well done but this scene is just a masterpiece. His awkward wave with wider eyes and also his hand movement and squeezed eyes when he says that he is going to kill you. Amazing.

The fact that the MC is asking her to tell that joke specifically probably means that Minthara told that joke before at some point in camp or something. And judging by how unenthusiastically she goes along with it, the rest probably laughed so hard at her back then, to the point where the MC (and possibly the rest of the companions as well) are teasing her about it.😂😂😂

I’ve not played the game and was sort of absent mindedly watching this so only once it got to Astarion I realised they weren’t all going up one after the other. But it’s funny to imagine it’s happening like that. One after the other they get mauled on stage but the clown just keeps asking for more volunteers and the crowd is like hehe yeah let’s see more of this
I’ve never played the game either so hearing the narrator at the beginning just say “you want to kill everyone here” was very confusing.

you can just skip act 1 and go recruit her in act 2. Wyll and Karlach won't leave your party. Halsin - harder, but possible too. But best se* scene + warcrimes are just better so just f them and pick Minthara

I mean honestly there is no real point because she is like legitimately evil, if you’re a good aligned character she is going to destroy your immersion
@@biggiecheese2004 actually, a good DU playthrough has some of the best companion conversations with minthara, but in general she's not "evil" in the context of the story. if lae'zel can fit in a "good" playthrough, minthara will do it even better.
@@solisae That's not the problem though. The problem is finding justification to recruit her in the first place. With Lae'zel it's easy, she knows of a potential way to cure yourselves where you will only be admitted with her present. That's a strong enough foundation for a common cause regardless of your differences in allignment. With Minthara, however, assuming you don't want to slaughter the tieflings to recruit her and skip the Grove entirely, you still have to bust her out of prison, right? But as far as you know at that point, she is an unrepentantly evil villain who may have problems with the Absolute's leadership, true, but that doesn't make her sympathetic to your cause. You don't know at that point that she is not genuinely evil and in order to find out, you have to rescue her, but you have no in-character motivation for doing so.
the dark urge ALSO being here REALLY came out of left field, I laughed way too hard

Even when it's a bit cringy, the VA for Astarion delivers every single line without fail. And that "I'm going to fucking kill you" had me dying laughing. I didn't care for him in the Early Access, but he's been one of my favorites since official launch.

Probably because in Act 3 he mellows out a lot, in Act 1 he can be pretty insufferable true 😂 but he's the mellows-out-over-time type like Laezel
@@carito728Depends on some choices in Act 3 dude doesn't mellow out at all. He gets worse 😂. He was quite mellow, in my opinion, from Act 1 to 2. Then again, I am a Dark Urge and he enjoys hearing about me slaughtering people.

@@zer0homer Typically grotesque and happy go lucky stuff which I find to be normal for him. He has been quite excited for most of the stuff I have gotten myself into and my Dark Urge is Chaotically Good. He even tried to egg me on into doing more bad and embracing my Slayer power more.
@@RazielTheUnborn Strange... if you romance Astarion as the Dark Urge while being gentle to him and trying to resist your own murderous instincts, once he knows you're a Bhaalspawn Astarion actually gets surprisingly protective and supportive of your character's struggle to be good, telling you that if he can resist his bloodthirst so can you and that you need not be a slave to your blood and destiny.

I'm amazed most of them like Lae'zel, Karlach or Halsin don't just do something to prevent the dog attack, considering they seem the most on guard/primed instincts of the party.
(Lae'zel judo flipping the dog over herself into the crowd, Karlach just giving it a strong face kick as it lunges to her or Halsin holding it into a head-lock.)
Jaheira would likely also have seen the attack coming, but I'm not sure if she would use magic vines or just pull her weapon so the dog will jump on the blade.
Actually, they have different responses based on their affinity I believe. I sent Lae'zel up and she was like "eh, why not." But I was past her disavowing V'laakith and turning down her offer to be her right hand at this point.
By affinity you mean the ending you pick for their personal questline?
I had Lae'Zel at Max affinity with a Romance going and she still hated it. I'm guessing I had to go to Voss first?

I was hoping class features/spells like danger sense or casting shield as a reaction would have come into the scene with different companions. Or the two druids being able to notice the dog was ready to strike. Maybe it'll be in the enhanced edition we'll no doubt be getting like with both DOS.

The mocap here looks really awkward with some of them walking up to the stage. Only Karlach and Wyll actually look like they'd walk that way to me.
First time I threw Aastarion under the bus just for his reaction, than I had to reload and decides since Astarion was my only companion who still was pretty neutral, I'd watch Gale.

Our group - two guys, my friend's a druid romancing Shadowheart, and me as a Paladin romancing Karlach. She was so eager to go on a nice trip/date in the circus and I was like "allright then". Went around, and was looking at caged beasts - when suddenly a fight breaks out. To my friend "what the fk, you ruin my date, why do you start a fight" followed by a panicked "I don't know, I was talking with the clown and he told me praise the absolute and attacked me"... God I'm already missing not knowing what happens next.
Pretty sure that when a fight breaks out on a date with Karlach, that nets you bonus points.
Anyone playing multiplayer totally understands this struggle of just innocently walking around and suddenly the other person has started a fight or stolen something!
