Is Day of the Dead Better than Dawn of the Dead?

  • When I asked "Is Dawn of the Dead the Greatest Zombie Movie Ever?" in a recent review, a lot of you said yes. However, many people professed to love Day of the Dead even more. And because I'm all about making you guys happy, I figured I better make a Day of the Dead video just for you. See? I'm like the gift that keeps on giving!
This third installment in Romero's Dead trilogy can be a little bit divisive. Some love it, some...love it less. However, I think we can all agree that Tom Savini delivers the gruesome goods in this splatter classic.
Can Day of the Dead earn Romero and Savini another 5 Barf Bag rating? Let's get to the gore and find out!

"I'm running this Monkey Farm now, Frankenstein!" is one of the greatest lines in Horror.

Rhodes is single handley one of the most deranged and cold human antagonist in the trilogy imo. Definitely took 'guts' to deliver such a performance imo.

This is by far my favorite zombie movie of all time!!! Dawn is great, but I've always appreciated the story of everyone just falling apart and not really knowing how to handle themselves. The greatest special effects scene ever filmed, in my opinion, is the head rip scene towards the end. The fact that his voice pitch squeals higher and higher is realistic enough and his mouth continues to move. Just cannot beat that scene!!!

Captain Rhodes is the most underrated villain in any horror movie.

"Dawn" and "Day Of The Dead" are much MORE better than those spaghetti rip-offs. They can imitate, but they can NOT duplicate.

I've personally always preferred Day of the Dead much more to Dawn of the Dead, mostly due to it's setting underground and it's soundtrack is awesome.

No , it's not better than Dawn . But it's very ,very good . The Dead trilogy is excellent so it's a moot point to compare them .

John's "This is a 14-mile long tomb stone" speech is a classic.

Dawn of the dead 1978 and day of the dead 1985 are two of my favorite films. RIP George Romero.

The zombies pulling that guys head off and his screams get higher pitch was the best thing ever

Day Of The Dead is amazing. Hated it when I first saw it, but gave it another chance and it’s become a personal favorite.

The Living Dead trilogy is probably my all-time favorite movie trilogy, though Star Wars and the Evil Dead come pretty close. I would say Dawn of the Dead is better, but Day of the Dead has the best production value and possibly the most memorable zombie ever, Bub.

This is my favorite Romero movie, it has a lot of gore but a compelling story with interesting characters. Some will say that the lack of pies being thrown at the zombies is a minus but I disagree.

Wow, the timing, I watched Day of the Dead yesterday. Romero really went balls-to-the-wall with this one. I've loved it since I was a kid and was staying with the branch of the family that would let me rent horror, even something so gory and violent. I was eight or nine and watched it alone. That maybe had a bearing on my development. All I know is as a gore hound this film sets a high precedent. The younglings today have no idea how lucky they are to have the Horror Geek to guide them to the good ones without having to wade through all the time-wasters that fail to live up to the promise of their description or box art.

Joseph Pilato’s performance in this is so underrated. People often forget solid acting is what makes real horror work. I remember when I was a kid I found him so intimidating and scary. RIP buddy. You were not appreciated enough.

The film is pretty much universally loved at this point. I haven't heard much hate for it in YEARS. Depending on my mood, I oscillate between Dawn and Day as my favorite. Ah hell, Night also takes the top spot for me sometimes.
