    Quite a lot missed in this review. First of all, physics are far from the best with major tire model flaws and many setup exploits. Content-wise, the historic community is, simply put, ignored, both, by S397 and modders. AI is terrible with throttle and brake inputs only going 0-1, no in between. Their lines are also messed up and often they just do stupid things. New UI isn't great, but it's also very laggy for me, as I have tons of content (official and mods) and the severe input lag makes it very annoying to use. Multiplayer is not even that bad, there is the new Competition System that is lacking players in those daily and hourly races, but there are also many leagues and many decently good ones. These leagues cover all kinds of racing, from open wheel stuff, cup races, endurance stuff and even historic races (obviously very limited because of lack of content, but it exists). Once you're a part of the rFactor 2 online community it actually becomes a really pleasant experience and you can find yourself even too busy with online races. And that excuse: "to race online you have to race in leagues which I can't/don't want to" is stupid, you very much can, just get involved and you'll find something you like and can compete in. Finally, graphics, for single monitor users, such as myself, very high, nearly max graphics can work at over 100 fps on a mid-range modern PC, at least offline that is, usually with 30-40 cars. Personally, always when going online, I turn graphics down to nearly minimum to ensure I have absolute peak performance, so can't comment on how intense it is to run high graphics online. Touching on the pricey content, the problem is that to race online, you must have all the content that's on the server, which can get very expensive if that's a lot of official DLC. It's possibly the biggest flaw of rFactor 2 that seems like won't be fixed anytime soon. Overall, it's a very, very flawed sim, but you get used to it and learn to love it. Plus I got really comfortable with the community, so I see no point in moving on. I've been playing rFactor 2 for quite a few years now and racked up solid 1900+h (maybe even 2000 now) so I think I can give you a rough idea what it's like.

      Very good points, in terms of the finer details, I tried to keep the review in the 10min or below marker and even then I went over it. All those details are very valid and I’m glad you put the time into writing that comment so people can read it and get more detail. I’d love to do a deep dive video to discuss all of these points more in the future.

    Rfactor 2 will still be the sim to beat on many ways for some time. From tire model to overall phisics its still on top. By the way, the thumbnail BMW was my team's car on 12h of Monza this weekend. Skin done by me :).... Thanks for that mate ..

    I am a long time rFactor (1) user. I tried to make the switch to rFactor 2 some years ago and could not get used to it for several reasons. In fact I got more disappointed over the time by rF2. So I started using Assetto Corsa and still use rF1. Since the new rF2 user interface and shorter loading times I am back at rF2. I must admit, I have a very powerful PC so I have all graphics settings to the max and still decent fps, so the image looks decent. But I have fallen for the superb physics and FFB. I am driving most of the time on original rF2 ISI and Studio 397 tracks, so the AI also does a decent job. Never had such a good simrace experience just racing against AI before as I had last weeks in rF2.

  • @Drewbyy
    @Drewbyy Před 2 lety +3

    Best engine, you actually feel what’s going on and on the limit of grip it’s feels like a car or the limit. Most other sims it’s like you are just driving safety and normally on the limit and then you push past it and spin. Driving a car in the limit is not like that. The limit is a blurry line and changes so much. You push a tad past without meaning too and end up fighting a bit of oversteer, and this happens all the time. R factor actually feels like that. Most others feel like just normal driving but your Speedo is out. Rfactor is crap in a lot of other ways, tracks aren’t that accurate and times and multiplayer, menus etc. Even content is super inconsistent. But when you get a nice track with a good car, the driving experience is the best by far. Flat spotted tyres, track constantly changing, tyres coming back to life after pushing them to mush. It’s awesome.

  • @spiralmoment
    @spiralmoment Před 2 lety

    as far as what's good out of the box, I think some of the taatuses are some of the best open wheelers in sim racing. The way you feel the tyres is just on another level.

    I've been acquintated with RF2 for a year, so I can give my take on it. It's worth the price on sale. When everything works, RF2 is the best. None can beat its physics and FFB feel because the finer forces are translated really well. S397's content (and its curated ones, like the Alpine Cup) are of really good quality. It also has the best GTE / LMP endurance racing. iRacing has it too, but it's on A class and a LOT more expensive (in comparison to RF2's Endurance Pack on sale). League online racing is peak RF2, I've gained lots of friends because of it.
    GT3 I would place between ACC and iRacing, because while ACC has the best GT3, it does not have enough tracks to complete a GT World Challenge (Magny-Cours, Hockenheimring, Valencia) series this year while RF2 has plenty of good quality community-made tracks to cover those tracks. IMSA series is possible in RF2. iRacing is also comparable, just with the price being its barrier of entry of course.
    I've tried racing AI at 100% with GT3, and while they're decent, if you're good enough, they are no match for your pace. I think you can find a lot of joy in AI racing, they're not the best, but servicable.

      Rfactor 2 crashed zero times while driving in my case. And I drove 800 hours meanwhile. It's stable. It crashes, in menues. That's the crazy thing about it.
      Online: search for a solid community. If the game crashes, it's mostly because of wrong host settings. There are tons of possibilities for a host. Random servers are mostly hosted without any knowledge.

    • @timmuston2687
      @timmuston2687 Před 2 lety

      @@ZimmerZirwes Yes, for me it usually crashed while loading, rather than when driving. The real problem is that if I ever drive online and the system needs to download a car or track, it completely trashes my list of cars and tracks. It's fixable, but a total pain in the bum.

      Search for a solid community. That's my suggestion to you. If the servers are hosted correctly and the workshop content is uploaded correctly, it's relatively easy to use.
      For the first use: Search for some help within the community. You won't get any better physics. It's worth the search.

      Replace the horrible oficial ingame HUD for some mod, get simdashboard or something like that so you can have a button box or any info you want on cell phone in real time (and you will not need to memorize keys) , play it with a cleaner screen (ditch HUD stuff you don't need), and get only the best mods or some official content.
      Spend 5 euros in steam in 1 car you want to try, try it for < 2 hours, refund, and then try another one and so on. Keep what you like if feasible.
      Btcc cars are awesome.

    Rfactor 2 gives me everything I want from sim racing. I searched for some communities - and that was worth it.
    It offers by far the best tire model. The best drive swap. The best weather plug-in - with real weather. And weather changes during the race. You have to look the weather forecast. The sounds are getting improved a lot. The new optional version shows the potential of the new sound engine - and it sounds awesome.
    IRacing is so much overrated. You have to learn the cars behavior - you don't feel it. Even with irFFB - it's ridiculous, that this sim is hyped that much. No rain since a decade? That's a joke, too. The cost of the game? Come on. That should be a point of hard criticism in every review. It's ridiculous, too. The netcode is a joke. Cars are blinking and flying into your car, if the ping is too high. There are only some reasons for saying, that iRacing is a good sim: The rating system and the hosted races. But they are completely without soul. No life streams, an only automatic punishment system and off tracks, where every car in every race is allowed to drive.
    Iracing is a solid sim. Rfactor is the way better sim, if you put some effort into it. And of you spend 150 euros in sale, you own the complete content. Not only the fee for renting the base content for two years.
