The Honest guide (Janek & Honza) should be offered a seat on the city council to promote tourism from within the city government. He is a great ambassador for tourism in the city, I can see how this can benefit both tourists and residents.

I'm not a Praguer, and I've probably played far too much Cities Skylines, so you might be like "what?" at a few of mine:
    *The money changers*
-I'd close the money changers and Thai Massage places when their licences expire, simply by not renewing the licences (I'm guessing these kinds of places have to be licensed to operate), and I'd ask the municipal police to monitor the money changers, and get PČR to raid them and their owners' homes as soon as they legally can (It'd be great to see the operators of the money changers explain themselves to a judge and jury, and to see the jury return after deliberations with "guilty" verdicts for all of them)
    *infrastructure*
-I'd build a new tram connection in the city centre, from Muzeum metro station, connecting the track on Vinohradská used by routes 11 and 13 to the track between the buildings the National Museum uses, then new track up Václavske Námesti, to Vodičkova and Jindrišska (where I'd install a "grand union junction", so trams can turn in any direction), then going further up Václavske Nám., turning onto 28.Rijna (with passive provision for trams to go up Na Přikope if that was to be proposed later on), then down Národni to the existing track.
-I'd demolish the Parking Centrum multi-story car park, reduce Wilsonova to 2 lanes in each direction, then demolish the road viaduct, turning it into a surface level avenue, with another new tram route in the centre. Going further up, I'd fill in the tunnel that Nábřeží Kapitana Jaroše uses to go under Bubenská, and turn all of that junction into a new square. At Vlatvská metro station, I'd demolish the bridge that Bubenská uses to go over the tramway, and I'd fill in the tram ramps on Antoninská and Bubenská (I generally demolish the motorways that are on Cities Skylines maps when you load them up as soon as I can, and I generally turn them into surface streets, or put them underground. This is happening in a number of American cities, where local governments are replacing motorways built in the 1950s-70s, such as the Alaskan Way Viaduct in Seattle, WA, which was demolished and replaced by the SR 99 tunnel)
-I'd also build a load of new homes on the land by Bubny station bounded by Argentinská, and other land like it, along with commercial and office buildings in other areas
-I'd demolish the bridge that Vrbenského uses to cross Argentinská, and replace it with a normal crossroads, when that becomes life-expired
-I'd remove the concrete panels that the tram track is embedded in, and replace them with surfaces that are more harmonious with their surroundings, such as cobbles in cobbled streets, or grass in a few other places (a bit like a lot of the new French tramways)
-I'd also improve the bike infrastructure, such converting K Pazderkám and Čimická to single carriageway roads, and using the current eastbound carriageway as a cycle track instead (I'd use the its full width as one), and I'd also take out the turning filter lanes (I've probably watched far too many Bicycle Dutch and Not Just Bikes videos)
    *The DPP and PID*
-I'd start converting the entirety of the DPP bus fleet from mostly diesel buses to mostly hybrid, battery electric and hydrogen fuel cell buses, and mandate that contracted bus operators do the same for buses that operate either entirely within Prague, or enter and leave Prague on interurban routes
-I'd re-introduce trolleybuses to the streets (firstly on a combination of bus routes 143 and 176, then combinations of routes 207 and 133, routes 136 and 213, and on the current trolleybus route 58 and bus route 140).
-I'd merge fare zones P, 0 and B into one zone (zone P), so if you travel to and from Central Bohemia, you only need 1 ticket and not 2, and introduce a 2 ride ticket (something like a return ticket, with 2 90 minute journeys for 1,5* the price of a 90 minute single ticket), a 10 ride ticket (10 90 minute journeys for the price of 8), either as a book of 10 tickets that you rip out and stamp with each journey, or a long ticket with 10 strips that you stamp each time you travel, and a weekly ticket (7 day's travel for the price of 5)

  • @relo999
    @relo999 Před 3 lety +3

ON the recycling part, you just need bigger bins. Having separate recycling bins doesn't do anything as trash companies are still required to clean the trash to sell it for recycling as people purposefully or accidentally put the wrong things in the wrong bin not to mention some items being a mix of materials to begin with. Having separate bins just increases workload, cost and CO2 emissions (you require either bigger trash trucks or multiple runs). (Also mixed materials are the bane of the existence of any recycler. The biggest recyclable in my country says the whole "move away" from plastic just worsened the amount of trash that's unrecyclable as companies removed most plastic but than kept a plastic window or plastic liner)
Also doesn't help that depending on the recycler what needs to go in the paper and plastic bin chances. For example in my current city I'm not allowed to throw any paper in the paper bin if it has used for for food while pretty much any and all plastic can go in the plastic, except some specific chemical variants. And the previous city I lived you could throw "food related paper" in the paper bin, except for pizza boxes and other heavily tainted paper, but not news paper. While plastics had a different list of plastics allowed.
And especially for tourists even if you nationally unify those standards and make them feel logical you wouldn't solve the issue as, well, tourists generally aren't aware of the ins and outs of foreign recycling. Most people aren't even aware of their own region/city/countries recyclables beyond some very broad lines like "plastic/paper/green/misc.".
Separate recycling bins are basically only useful for people to feel environmentally friendly while making the trash issue worse and for local governments to ask higher trash pickup prices.
Simply bigger bins are cheaper and more environmentally friendly.

Probably the same problem as with the extended 'provisional' sidewalk, to put up some blocks, no permit is required... It's the same everywhere, they've put in a lot of provisional bike lanes, here in Brussels, just some concrete blocks separating them from the cars, but if they want anything more permanent, like raised bike lanes, they need to get a permit first, which means a public inquiry, a meeting, possible appeals which cause more delay... It's a bit sneaky, but these provisional test constructions are quite handy to circumvent all the red tape.

1:22 To be fair, I rarely see recycling bins even in Germany. Most of the time you see them on train platforms but not put up by the municipal garbage collection within the city. Actually, one can be glad that there are bins at all. Some cities hardly put up any.

The cities worry about induced supply/demand. If you put up more garbage bins, people will throw away more garbabe. If it's an entire recycling system ... nothing stops the locals from using them for free instead of paying their garbage disposal fees (assuming there are any), or for other reasons might want to use them instead of "properly" disposing of it. So that sort of thing needs to be carefully planned.

The first change I’ll do if I have a chance is to get rid of the old ticket machines, especially at the metro stations. They operate only by the coins, and imagine that - you arrived at Florenc at 4:30 am, you have only paper money, at least 100 CZK, buy a ticket...Everything is closed or the stuff don’t want to brake you cash early morning. That’s my own experience, yes I got fined (07.2019). Now it’s little bit simple because there is PID Litacka app, you can buy ticket there but you have to have cellular data to do it, once your from county out of EU, it’s difficult. Especially on arriving. The same situation is on station Kacerov as I remember.
Please Prague, delete the old machines and replace them by the new version, that we could pay by card.

    1) More public available restrooms.
    2) Ban Euronet ATMs, and only allow national controlled bank ATM services.
    3) A Metro connection between Václav Havel Airport, and for instance I. P. Pavlova/Náměstí Míru. This would improve the connection drastically. Even though there is a bus connection from the Airport to the city centre of Prague, I do believe this would be great.

  • @gabrielakapturkiewicz2774

There are 2 things I would change right away if I could and they're super easy and cheap to adjust.
The first one is a pedestrian crossing on I. P. Pavlova (on Sokolska to be more precise). The green light there is only for 10s and sometimes from the late evening, even only for 5s. To not get hit by a car, you often need to enter the crossing on the red light. People who know the area just observe the parallel crossing - as soon as pedestrians there have the green light, you are safe to cross. It's especially important when you walk from the direction of Legerova - because if you're late on that crossing you really have to be careful about cars turning on a conditional right turn. Isn't that insane? I often see elders struggling there. Once, I also saw a person with a disability who was just a bit late on that crossing and had to wait for the next green light. It would be enough to just increase that 10s to 15s (especially that other crossing on I. P. Pavlova have the green light for like 20-40s).
The second thing is a closed area of Dětský ostrov. There is a part with a statue and a mini colonnade that you can access only if you pretend you're going to the boat and if you manage to avoid the security guy. Idk why this part is not accessible. But maybe here the reason is the safety of children playing on the island's playground.
