    Boom! 🤘 great video as always. Learnt so much from your videos. Thank you. Are those black nylon washers on the lug bolts? Do they help to reduce the friction between the bolt and the hoop?

    • @KennySharretts
      @KennySharretts  Před 2 lety +1

      Thank you so much. 🤘🏻 Yes. I love using nylon washers between the hoop and tension rod. Smoother tuning (especially at higher tensions), less friction, and the washers don’t cut into the hoop.

  • @DG-sf9ei
    @DG-sf9ei Před rokem +2

    An 8 lug 14 floor tom, now that's a well constructed drum. Except for multi thousand $$ series kits, most drum companies only use 6 lugs on a 16 & 18 floor tom - a cheap marketing trick to add more tension lugs which improves sound/consistent tuning, that drum companies won't disclose on their "select" timber series.

    • @KennySharretts
      @KennySharretts  Před rokem +1

      I’ve worked on many an 8 lug 16 and 18 floors on discount kits, but I know there are a lot of 6 lug floors out there as well. Thank you for watching, and commenting 🙏

    • @DG-sf9ei
      @DG-sf9ei Před rokem +1

      @@KennySharrettsWere the 8 lug 16s on older less valued series ? Because from what I saw checking into this about a year ago, was that Yamaha and I believe Mapex only manufacturers offering more lugs on their low to mid range series. From experience I think Yamaha makes solid drums in general, no matter the price range.

  • @Jay-Go
    @Jay-Go Před 4 měsíci +1

    Kenny, good stuff. Did you settle on the C for the 14" because of where you had the rack? Curious what that floor tom would sound like going down to B flat or even A. Sounds like it had the room. But I know that would mean probably bringing the rack down too.

    • @KennySharretts
      @KennySharretts  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Bringing the rack down was. I problem. The 14” was about as low as it could go on the batter without wrinkles when the Reso was tuned a Major 3rd or perfect 4th higher. If even tuning was used I probably could have gotten b’s out of both heads. The drum, however, might not have spoken as well much lower. Thank you for watching, and commenting.

    How come I’m hearing the opposite? When you say that one’s high, I thought it sounded low, and vice versa…

    • @KennySharretts
      @KennySharretts  Před rokem

      That’s a great question. Very often I’ll. Listen to the lowest pitch for tone matching, and the high harmonic for the fine tuning. A “low” lug will often sing with the pitch of the “target” lug or higher pitch in this case. The high harmonic is often the best indicator of the lowness or highness. So while it may sound the opposite, when i’m at the drum I can clearly tell the difference. Even when editing the overhead shots I have to remind myself that even though the mic captures a lot, it can often be hard to discern which tension Rod is singing out , and which one is reacting sympathetically. Thank you so much for commenting, and watching.
