  • This film is on the local areas where I surfed while attending Cal Poly in 1975-1982. I lived in Shell Beach and surfed Pismo pier, St. Ann's and Sewers. Wonderful days! Music by Wishbone Ash, Lorelei.

This is awesome. It needs to be played at the Skate museum in Morro Bay, run by jack smith.
I lived at 100 El Portal drive, Shell Beach for 7 years in the 90's. Best place on earth that I know of.
My mother and others live there now.

The combination of the song with the footage was truly inspired. Great stuff. Too bad it isn't pumping like this in Pismo today.

Mr Brian Tissot, thank you so much for these surf videos. They really mean a lot to me, I discovered all your 70s surf vids in 2019 when I was 18 and at a tough and low point. These videos gave me so much peace and happiness to watch and try to live through it really made me feel great. I’m really grateful for you and your foresight to film these experiences. Thank you so much. I’ve always wanted to experience what this film captures for myself looks like the dream. Thanks Brian!

Thanks for posting. I grew up in the Pismo/Shell area during the 60's/70's and went to Cal Poly until I left the area in '79. This brings back good memories of golden days. It's a long climb to the top of the hills overlooking the coastline, but worth the view.

Reminds me of my life early on in Cal. Surf, rock and a fine doob. Born in 62 and the mid to late 70's were journeys up and down the coast. From San Diego to Pismo. So much damn fun meeting new people, surfing and camping out. Nice film man.

I surfed Pismo in the 90's while stationed at Vandenberg AFB. Met a dear friend Steve Lee who lived in Lompoc and he showed me every surf spot from San Simeon to La Hoya. It seemed that he also knew every parks department employee on the coast also. We did surf Vandenberg which was off limits and luckily we never got caught. Caught a lot of early morning sessions before work at SLC-3 at the Train stop off of Ocean Blvd which split North and South VAFB out of Lompoc. Good memories and Great Friends. I do miss the Clam Chowder at Splash at Pismo and visiting Pancho's Surf Shop.

Here is the skinney so bear with me. I was at CCS today buying a fin that would be good in kelp. The guy behind the counter asked me where I was surfin and I told him St Anns. He tells me, hey there is this really cool video on line I should check out. I thought for a second and asked, Dr Abalone? He says yea! I said that was my Birthday Party. I don't know if he believed me. Anyhow, I only discovered this video a few years ago and it had to be taken in 1975 if not earlier. I don't think I had graduated H.S yet and I graduated in 75. A bunch of us friends all had our birthdays around the same time in mid March, so we decided we would have a party behind my parents house and call it "Spring Babies". Kelly, Raul, Mark J., Mark W. and some others that I can't remember (c'mon, it was the early 70's) built a stage. It was one of those "if you build it, they will come" things. And they did. Scott T., Billy L., two other school mates played. A band from Santa Maria got wind and played. And of course Denny and Joe's band. I do remember the one guy who I think was taking the videos. I'm pretty sure he was there to take videos of his buddies surfing. There just happened to be a party going on. I think....I dunno. You know how when you throw a party and you don't know half the people there. I'm really happy that Dr Abalone published this video. Brings back some fond memories. Especially of the surf where I grew up 4 doors down. And for the record, there was no permit. We just went around and warned the neighbors. Unfortunatly there was fighting and BS happening at the end, and I don't think that Officer Smitty or the neighbors would want it to happen again. It was a good time though. I can't wait to try my new fin tomorrow. Peace
