    Wow! Beautiful piece. The 1:6 vehicles released are usually not true 1:6 scale which is why this looks "too big." If you search Sideshow's history, a 1:6 diorama was done with the Falcon in the Death Star docking bay. It really puts things in perspective.

    6:15 - You are correct, the high-beams never flashed. Also, the turn signal bulbs were white, not amber. Technically only 2 of those 4 lights at the bottom were ever turn signals, the other two were fog lights. I own a '59 Caddy replica Ecto. On my car I decided that "screen accurate" or not, I wanted 4 x amber turn signals like you would expect, so I altered my car. Ever since then ( about 2010 ) I've seen comics, toys, t-shirts etc that feature those 4 lights as amber. I feel partially to blame. Those lights were all white, and the headlights never flashed.
    9:59 - This misconception could be my bad too. I put LED lights on the round-reflective rings of my Ecto so now I see it appearing as canon in other media. A normal '59 Caddy wouldn't have those.

    For the amount of money they want for this thing, I am not impressed. Fingerprints, paint splatter, decals used to take the place of paint, incorrect headlight functions. It seems like a half assed rush job to be honest. With that, the concept is cool, but it falls really, really short.

    As a lightbar enthusiast, Id say the noise from the rotators on this model is pretty accurate, on the real deal(police cars and such), they arent exactly quiet. I am quite amazed at the detail they put into the lightbars and hope to see scale modeling catch up with this in smaller scales(1:18, 1:24)

  • @chamoo232
    @chamoo232 Před 4 lety +1

    The inner headlights shouldn't flash. The scale is right for the figures. The spinning lights is accurate to the scene where Ecto-1 comes out of the firehouse for the first time but that shot is accelerated. The regular scenes at the end of the movie has the lights spin much slower. For the price I would be scared to modify it but at the same time I would like to do a custom paint job and weathering just to make it look more realistic. I would remove the red vinyl and redo all the red paint. I would also sand down that bumper seem and redo all the chrome. Some airbrushed rust under the car and a bit of dirt in the bottom of the doors.

    • @HorrorMonsterCollectibles
      @HorrorMonsterCollectibles  Před 4 lety

      @@HorrorMonsterCollectibles I hate when we have those amazing collectibles that have tiny details that are just off. I ended up buying a cheap airbrush on ebay just to repaint my Hot Toys robocop. It was too silver for my liking. I used navy blue translucent paint and took the figure apart. taped every part that wasn't silver and shot a fine mist with the airbrush. Now he look exactly like he does in my mind when I picture Robocop. The mods I end up doing the most often is fixing decisions that were made for light up features. A Terminator endosqueleton look great when the eyes are lit up but it look dead when they are off. I can't leave the eyes on all the time. Solution: tiny little circle of red vinyl tape sticking in the eyes. Now he always look alive.

      @HorrorMonsterCollectibles  Před 4 lety

      It's very close. I measured out the wheelbase and width between this and the actual 1959 Caddy and it was slightly larger. If I remember right, Blitzway said they made it slightly bigger to make it easier to fit the figures inside. But just by looking at it you can't really tell.
      And if I remember correctly, the figures were not all 100% exactly 1:6 scale.

  • @Retrobution
    @Retrobution Před 4 lety +1

    i think you could mod this to be just right. at least this is what i would do if i could pick one up second hand.
    for the front flashing lights you could take the wire coming off of the non flashing front lights and wire the flashing ones to those.
    for the bumper molding you could take off the bumper. sand down the part and respray it to a chrome you would like and same to match the others.
    could peel off the vinyl sticker and then paint that with the same red.
    for the rotating light noise perhaps there is a way to make it silent depending on how the rotating mechanism is working (i presume a load of cogs which are making the noise) perhaps a rubber band system could be modded just need to see how its all working inside to see if its possible.
    but i think if you had the siren sound file play when you press the button it would make the rotating sound less prominent.
    thanks for uploading this.
    i bought the hot toys delorean a few years back and was really disappointed with that i may sell that to get this.
    but i cant get this without the ghostbusters! so am left looking at them on youtube instead haha

    However, the price... man 2K is steep for something that has all those flaws. I'm sure all those flaws are easy to mod out, but at that price makes it too difficult for anyone to want to attempt it without feeling as if they're damaging it.

    • @benjamindminor7552
      @benjamindminor7552 Před 4 lety +1

      In the first movie the headlight did not flash on purpose the wiring was faulty and during filming it would go on and off. And when the car leaves the firehouse it just happened to be acting up thats why you see it come on when the car turns after leaving the firehouse and goes by the camera. Back then movies let a lot of glitches happen and not go back and reshoot because they didn’t have the budget like they do today and there where no post cgi to correct anything.

    It seems to me that, despite all the effort put into it, still there are issues that we don't see in mass produced toys. All the electronics are very poorly conceived, with the exposed wires and the overly complicated sound system. The red vinyl for the fins is a shame. Of course the end result looks impressive, just because noone has ever done it before, but with such a prohibitive price tag, those defects are unacceptable. It clearly is the product of unexperienced workers who underestimated the job.

  • @SpiderHulkThing

    So the siren noise isn’t there by default? The instructions say it does. They had the siren in the original promo. So how does that work? God you would hope it could mask the motor.

  • @T2rx6
    @T2rx6 Před 4 lety

    If you look at scenes from the movie the car's proper size for the ghostbusters.. Remember back in the day this was an ambulance/Hearse. So it's a pretty large car.
    The noise of the lights is kinda insane.. Does it not have the siren sound?
    And honestly the fact that they did vinyl for that red is really disappointing!
    That said.. If I could figure out a place in my house to fit It I'd get it to go with my blitzway busters.. For now I'm just going the eaglemoss build an ecto-1 which is slightly smaller but more manageable for finding a place for it!

    • @HorrorMonsterCollectibles
      @HorrorMonsterCollectibles  Před 4 lety

      The 1959 Cadillac Miller-Meteor Hearse wheelbase was 160 inches. That taken down to 1:6 scale comes out to 26.66 inches. The Blitzway 1:6 Ecto-1 is 28.12 inches. It is lager than it should be.

      @@HorrorMonsterCollectibles no, the closest to a one:12 there's been, that i've ever seen (and i've looked for years), is the old Kenner one. The Playmobil one looks great, but is WAY out of scale with 1:12 figures. i don't know why figure companies refuse to produce 1:12, 1:10 scale vehicles. Collectors have been clamoring for a 1:12 Ecto-1, 1989 Batmobile, and many others for years. it's dumb on all their parts to not do it because it would be quite fruitful from a business standpoint.

      @devoncrestway338 Před 4 lety +1

      @@HorrorMonsterCollectibles there's probably more 1:12 collectors than there are 1:6... and that's mainly because there's more character selection that scale, the prices are more reasonable, and a lot of people complain about how much room 1:6 figs take. i personally collect 1:6, 1:12, and 1:4. I'm diverse. lol. But literally every other collector i know is strictly 1:12.

    I don't think you were being too nit picky. If you paid what i've seen it advertised for at $1300 then I would've returned it and got my money back. Those are legitimate gripes for that price tag. No excuses for the glue spot and the cheap vinyl they used peeling off. To be honest for $1300 i would've expected a lot more attention to detail. I'm not a huge fan of the cheap looking pedals too. I've seen models at a fraction of the price with realistic looking pedals that aren't a part of the mold with silver paint on them. The motor for those lights are insanely loud too. I'm not terribly impressed. It's probably the best one ever done but i don't see this being worth anywhere near $1300...
