Saw The The with Johnny at Symphony Space and the Beacon Theater in NYC, 1989 and 1990. Two of the best shows I've ever seen. Saw The The again on the Dusk tour, and again twice for the Comeback Special. Barrie plays a mean guitar as well.
@Talorc MacAllan haha, even better, I took my daughter to see the documentary, The Inertia Variations, the day before the NYC gigs. A little tiny backroom theater on 8th Street, and the whole band showed up. We were sitting 10 ft. in front of Matt and James, and talked to Barrie and Earl Harvin after the film. That was a The The weekend to be sure! czcams.com/video/5Wg7dc41XZo/video.html
Well, the description of the video is wrong. It is London, but 1990. I just argued with a guy for half an hour whether it is Johnny Marr playing here without hearing it, believing the description here. He didn't play on the dusk tour in 1993.
Genius.
So beautifully true…
Outstanding live version.
Thank you, Matt.
Love this song.
This is actually audio from the 'Versus The World' tour from 1990. Johnny Marr did the guitars and harmonica on this song and was utterly brilliant.
+papadood Yeah, I saw them in Toronto. The extended ending with Johnny's harmonica & guitar blew my mind. So good.
Seen them in Dublin on that tour. Still have the T Shirt.
Hey I was there too....right in front of Johnny - in my top 3 concerts of all time

One of the greatest Love Songs ever written, a Hymn to Human Desire ...
agree, probably not romantic enough for a Valentine's serenade though ;)
one of favourite songs ever, love the guitar from about 2.20 superb. Matt Johnson is a genius.
Absolutely perfect. Just absolutely perfect.
That is Johnny Marr. His guitar sings.
Thanks so much, the best ever group for The The, at their climax, in my view
Great version and this lyrics... deeply moving, full of beauty (of different kinds) ♥️
Johnny Marr , 🎸 God ! Amazing song , Amazing version.
