    Thanks for sharing, just watched the video and ordered immediately, $20 and coming from right here in California from eBay. Didn't realize how simple it was. Can't wait to see the upgrade.

    Thanks for posting this vid. very helpful. Also, in case anyone missed it, what he is pressing on when he unclips the oem bulb from the adapter is a little rectangular rocker clip on the adapter

    Hey Ryan, massage some mineral oil (very inexpensive laxative) onto your fan shroud and other dark plastics to bring back their brand new luster. The heat resistant properties make it great for under-hood applications.

    Looks great! I wish BMW kept it this simple to replace in the e60. I own a 2010 528i and it was very annoying to replace the angel eye bulbs. However i did do it and am very happy with it!

  • @tailenols
    @tailenols Před 11 lety +1

    well... basically, good thing, but what I did was - changed the light bulb itself. There's BA9 socket and I only had to find the most powerful LED bulb with the same socket. it costed 0.99$ per piece, so I did it below 2$ for both.
    Technique is quite the same only difference is that you have to take out not the whole plastic holder with the mirror, but the tip of it, where the bulb has to be put.
    I'm sure some can take the bulb out with mirrror on, but I have big fingers and had problems. Luck

However, I recently bought a 2000 540i and love the power but regret getting rid of the legendary I6. If you decide to go with an E39 defiantly stick with the 6-cyl unless you relieve your stress by playing red-light racer, then I'm all for a 540i or M5. LOL good luck on your purchase man!

  • @fabiandee8178
    @fabiandee8178 Před 7 lety

    Did you find the airbox was in the way when doing the car's right side (N/S for u guize)? I found it made it more fiddly but removing it would be too much work when it's not strictly necessary. I bought the Mtec v3 HIDs which look near identical to these, so I'd expect these are an Mtec copy. The Mtecs come with the wiring harness in bits so you have to assemble it yourself and there are no instructions for this. Red wire on the harness doesn't go to red on the wire socket but to black which is counter intuitive -> trial and error. They are also a PITA to assemble, plug in, and remove/disassemble as everything is such a tight fit. Yours seem to have come preassembled which is much more user friendly and saving of your time. The Mtecs also seem to have an oversized gasket which flops about a bit, and comparing it to the gasket on the original bulb, I think the issue is that it's too soft and stretchy. It comes from the factory looped around different parts of the light to put it under tension which looks ridiculous. Yours seem to be normally designed here which I like. I did note when pulling out the old bulb and installing the LED is that there is a lot of crud around the inside the socket that could do with wiping off with a cloth and some meths or you get a load of dirt all over that nice new gasket straight away.

    I've got a '97 540i with yellow angel eyes and xenon headlights from factory (i take it it's the facelift one's, but from what i understand facelift came '00 and shouldn't be on my 540? And yes i know for a fact that it's not aftermarket).
    Sellers on eBay keep saying "fits e39 00-03" and similar but the setup looks exactly like mine. Am i missing something here? Did the 540i get the facelift from the beginning in '96? I want to be 100% sure that i'm buying the right one's.

I would like to upgrade the bulbs, High, low, and side bulbs without changing the look of the headlamps. I have seen tons of videos on how to facelift the headlights, but none on how to keep them OEM and change the bulbs. Please let me know if you have any suggestion. Thanks Chris

    • @E39Source
      @E39Source  Před 7 lety

      Assuming you have xenons, if you replace the bulbs with fresh OEM, they are really astounding headlights. Great light throw and super bright. These are some of the best headlights that BMW has ever made, I feel. Yours may be old and dim (yellowed or pink) or poorly aimed. Make sure that yours are adjusted properly (and that the lights don't have broken adjusters, making them impossible to aim properly).

ZHP knob is a 330ci ZHP edition knob it looks almost like the one you have, but it is shorter and heavier and that makes shifts more precise. If u want u can find an illuminated one too.

    I presume you could fit xenon filled bulbs instead? Are you sure these are 6000k? That would be much more blue than that I would have thought. I think the factory Xenon headlights are around 4200k. I was wondering whether you wouldn't see a difference between the LED angel lights and the low/high beam HID factory lights in general (i.e. LED vs Xenon).

    • @E39Source
      @E39Source  Před 7 lety +1

      +Fabian Dee I don't think the wiring could handle xenons. They're Low power wires... You'd also need another ballast of some kind.

    • @fabiandee8178
      @fabiandee8178 Před 7 lety

      You would think that replacing a halogen bulb with a xenon gas filled bulb of the same wattage wouldn't require any wiring changes, but I've not heard of anyone doing it. Couldn't find a suitable xenon-filled bulb on an on line search. Everyone goes straight for LED. I think I'll just do the same.

      I think you're referring to the common daytime running lights as they may be called on some E39s. The brights are on on lower power all of the time... I don't know why. None of our cars on E39Source were programmed like that, so I'm not sure what that's about. It may need to have the light control module re-programmed by a BMW dealer.

    Buying a 98 model, I don't know if it comes with angel eyes though. If not, what do I do to install angel eyes?

      There are ways to open up the pre facelift (97-00) lights to add angel eyes, or you can upgrade to the facelift lights. Search around for ways to open up the pre facelift lights; it's been done before.

    I have a 98 e39 528i and i want angel eyes would it be cheaper to buy all new headlights that have them in, or find used ones from an e39 that does have them?

      @BobbyOHearn Před 9 lety

      Simon2x If you stick with OEM headlights, it would be cheaper to buy used, but you should find ones with the adjusters in good shape. You can also purchase angel eyes that go inside your current lights.

    Yeah man. I'm trying to do this to my e39 528 but still trying to find the right price. Any Advice?

      The angel eye headlights? They are indeed very expensive. To do it right though, they really should be OEMs, which will be around $1300 per set. Then these light bulbs are cheap, only about $30. The aftermarket halo headlights are garbage, don't fit right, and will leak fairly soon.

    How can I have my angel eyes on by themselves ? like without the daytime running light ? I am trying to keep DRL and not flash them out at the dealer
    any solution ?

    • @E39Source
      @E39Source  Před 9 lety +1

      As far as I know, if you just want the angel eyes on, you have to code out the DRLs. You could also wire the angel eyes so they come on when you unlock the car or open a door, but no one at E39Source has done that yet.

    Is there one light bulb for each side headlight? How does this work? There are two angel eyes on each side headlight!

    • @BobbyOHearn
      @BobbyOHearn Před 9 lety

      There is one bulb for each side. One bulb controls both rings for the Respective side.
