    Who are the Beatles? It's a big question with a lot of answers because the Beatles were a massive cultural phenomenon, but sticking to the basic facts I would say they are the most popular, revolutionary, influential and critically acclaimed musical act of the last 75 years.

      Sounds about right. And still beloved by soooo many, young and old alike. I also feel theres a bit of sadness behind the Beatles. Like idk but watching clips and hearing the songs from the later years you can almost feel the tension and sadness they are all going though. I thank the Good Lord and Universe for giving us The Beatles lol

    • @no834
      @no834 Před 2 lety +5

      I mostly agree, but 75 years is a bit arbitrary. I'd say in history they are the most influential musical act.

    • @urivan9613
      @urivan9613 Před 2 lety +3

      @@no834 It's certainly sort of arbitrary. I guess my point is that they are the most influential musical act in the post-war era, but we're not in the post-war era anymore yet there haven't been any musical artists who have surpassed The Beatles when it comes to influence and overall impact since their breakout. Also, I should probably say that they are the most influential POPULAR musical act in history (certainly since WW2), instead of music in general. I don't have enough knowledge to judge the influence of contemporary classical composers though, but The Beatles were indeed influenced by avant-garde composers like Stockhousen and Varese and in fact did incorporate elements of genres like musique concrete in their music. Also, their approach to popular music was heavily influenced by pre-rock Western music and some people even credit them for bringing back the classical patterns of Western music to the masses. So they probably have some influence in modern classical music as well.

    On April 4, 1964 the Beatles held the #1, #2, #3, #4, and #5 top songs in the world.
    1: ‘Can’t Buy Me Love’
    2: ‘Twist And Shout’
    3: ‘She Loves You’
    4: ‘I Want To Hold Your Hand’
    5: ‘Please Please Me’
    This will never ever be duplicated by anyone. I’m glad I was alive back then to witness it myself.

      @mnamhie Před 2 lety

      Actually it has been duplicated, even bettered. Just a couple of months ago, in fact, Drake had 9 songs in the top 10 on the Billboard charts.

    • @patticrichton1135
      @patticrichton1135 Před rokem +1

      @@mnamhie IT'S not really fair to compare the two because of the difference in obtaining recorded music in the '60s as opposed to NOW. When the Beatles were popular, we didn't have the internet, computers, online buying, online downloading of songs to an phone, tablet, computer, etc. We had to PHYSICALLY get up, go out to a brick and mortar RECORD STORE and BUY the 45's (singles with one song on each side) or their albums on vinyl 33 1/3 rpm, and pay for them in person to a clerk at the cash register, WITH CASH (teens didn't have a "charge card" ) Before we could drive we would either have to have our parents or some other adult DRIVE us TO a record store or a department store downtown that also had a record department, OR take a bus to get there, in order to buy our Beatles' records. It was a lot more difficult and time consuming (but NORMAL for the times). A lot more EFFORT went into buying records in those days. Now you don't even have to leave your house and it is practically instantaneous to purchase music. SO, taking in consideration for the times and how we obtained our music then, the amount of Beatles records sold then was AMAZING compared to other artists then AND the time and effort it took to purchase them. It's a totally different world now. ALSO keep in mind that Beatles records/music STILL sells today. Also LOOK HOW LONG it took for someone to "match or exceed" what the Beatles accomplished in just 8 years. So it doesn't really impress me what Drake accomplished when no one has to leave their home to buy his music, a few key strokes and you have it. We had to "WORK" for out music then...LOL! TRULY, I was one of them. We just couldn't access it instantaneously like now. If we COULD have I will tell you that they would have had even MORE songs on the top 10 or the Top 100 than they did in 1964. Times are different, technology is more advanced now, so you really can't compare the two.

    You could easily think Paul was singing about Mary Magdalene, and that works as well, but in fact he was singing about his dear departed mother who came to him in a dream to reassure him don't stress everything is ok just let it be.. Paul's mother died in 1956 when Paul was just 14.

  • @mlong1958
    @mlong1958 Před 2 lety +10

    Paul woke up from a dream about his mother, Mary, telling him to not worry and to just let it be. He then wrote this song. Similarly, he woke up one morning in the early sixties and sat down and wrote a song that he called Scrambled Eggs as a working title. It ended up being the most recorded song in history, Yesterday.

    George Harrison's guitar solo, one of many versions he recorded for this song (including his more fluid and "busy" solo for the single, a worldwide hit) is the definitive and emotionally shattering version, unleashed in its all its soaring power and raw emotional wallop. No wonder Prince communed with Harrison during His Purple Majesty's now iconic live guitar solo performance to Harrison's masterpiece, While My Guitar Gently Weeps: you can trace Prince's astonishing ability to unleash guitar solos mixing not just raw power but also narrative drama and emotional intensity on, for example, Purple Rain, right back to this track here.
    George Harrison's genius transforms Paul's classic song and the Beatles' superb ensemble performance (with special shout-out to Beatles' longtime friend and future R&B, rock-funk star in his own right, Brother Billy Preston for his stellar work on the organ) and renders it into a Beatles' masterpiece, a fitting and resonant final farewell, and one that confirms that they were not just a band that defined an age but rather THE band for The Ages.
    Let It Be, indeed.

      Great post. George was REALLY getting good at writing and playing at this point. (Clapton taught him well and accompanied him on tracks (no credit given). While My Guitar Gently Weeps and Here Comes the Sun are some examples of his greatness and two of my favorite Beatles tunes. A lot of ppl don't know George was actually the most successful solo Beatle (although John's death certainly made that possible)

    George's guitar is amazing, not only the solo, the way the guitar complements Paul's voice in the last part, it's a special emotion when Paul keeps going "let it be let it be..." and the guitar almost "yells" or "cries", it gives the song some extra feeling. They were amazing, even their slower more soft songs had a special edge and feeling that's very hard to achieve, only a few bands can do something like this.

    Ok young lady, is this a joke? Can it be that you don't know "The Beatles"? I see that you are still very very young; the Beatles were born in the early 1960s, but they are the co-founders of rock and roll and are in the Hall of Fame among the first, if not the first.
    Their hits are legendary, they are known all over the world, aren't they?
    Check out wikipedia and see what celebrities they are. The members are: John Lennon (murdered!), Paul Mc Cartney (still alive), George Harrison (also already dead) and Ringo Starr, the drummer (also still alive). One song might be familiar to you: "Yellow Submarine" from the cartoon of the same name...
