I think you missed the point, Slick; Asian Susan Sarandon did not “own” anything. She simply observed what so many others’ have about Rick, only more verbose & self-righteous. The only thing that gave Rick pause was whether or not to verbally spar w/Asian Susan Sarandon after the day he had had. He thought about a typically-colorful Rick-retort, realized he was tired & couldn’t care less, then opted not to engage in what would be yet one more meaningless conversation-or did you forget that “nothing matters” is Rick’s whole shtick? I don’t know why you watch if you’re not gonna pay attention. At the end of the day, Rick could care less that he’s “the problem.” That “brief moment” that you claim was Rick’s epiphany? That was his own self-reassurance of how little he actually cares. I can relate. See how many folks comment on my comment, wait for my reply, & then you will have some understanding of just how little your Betters’ care about your insignificance…✌️

Dr Wong just called him out on a human level, which his massive ego and talent often prevents others from recognizing much less using against him. Now he's "in too deep" and "has to" double down on his pride, otherwise he'll prove himself wrong and someone he doesn't respect right. Now he's caught in this wheel of sadness and all he has to do is stop but he thinks it's too late.

In a way, Dr. Wong is the antithesis of Rick. She’s not as intelligent enough to turn herself into a pickle, but she has amazing interpersonal and emotional intelligence. She doesn’t take the bait or look mystified at Rick’s inventions. She can call Rick out. Tbh, as a guy going through therapy for the first time in a long while, this is something I come back to watching a lot.
Dr. Wong is absolutely right - We all have a choice, and self-improvement and bettering oneself is just that - It's work. It's hard work, but it's ultimately worth it, I feel, in the longrun.
It's not an adventure, but much like my job as a Dishwasher, it's satisfying to be able to say, "I put in the hard work and things are running as they should."

I think Rick's ego forbids him to accept that someone could potentially understand him. He has turned being a genius without peer as some kind of badge of honour, when it is quite the curse being able to not only see the universe move a certain way, but being able to prove it moves that way, only for everyone else to reject the evidence before them, because theh would rather see the universe move the way they want it to. He wants to believe that he is some kind of confounding factor in creation, that his behaviour is unpredictable, his motives unfathomable, and his reputation associated with the ultimate wild card, and a therapist is probably the only person who could see through it and see the patterns. Dr Wong is one such therapist, and she accomplishes what Rick cannot, connect to people.

4:17 "Not reacting, that really is the kill move?"
Does anyone else think this realization may be what inspired to Rick to actually give Jerry the pillbug mode? I know that Jerry asked for it, but I think this moment is what made Rick understand how useful it could be.
