Wolverine (2013) here!! I went into this not really knowing what to expect since I've always heard such split opinions, but after watching I see why! I could never picture Wolverine traveling to Japan or ever being open to it since I picture him as a hardcore all American type of guy. But when he does travel of course it quickly escalates and something that wasn't his problem initially, BECOMES his problem lmao (classic Logan)

I was NOT EXPECTING THE WOLVERINE IN JAPAN! (but I enjoyed it!)
#thewolverine #reaction #commentary #vkunia #xmen - Zábava
Wolverine has fairly big history in Japan in the comics, a lot of his comic book history takes place there. He was a legit samurai for a decade or two, and had a family, etc.
Outside of his military career, Japan is where he learned most of his fighting and covert skills.
A big important part actually involves Bucky AKA the Winter Soldier in Japan but I don't think that part will ever make it to the movie universes.
Thanks for that. I mostly grew up with the X-MEN animated series, and I think they gave Wolverine one Japan-based episode. I had no idea it was such a big part of his history.
Whaaaat!?!? Winter soldier X Wolverine that’s a legendary combo
@@Randomyoutubecommenter in the comics, Winter Soldier is hired to kill the Yakuza boss's daughter, who happens to be Wolverines wife, and his son.
Bucky kills both, seemingly, but because the kid is Logans son, he also has Logans powers, so he ends up surviving and becomes the Dark Wolverine for Norman Osbournes Dark Avengers, and has a vendetta against both Wolverine and Winter Soldier.
@@comicenthusiast and Logan didn’t protect them?..
Logan's history in Japan and his relationship with Mariko are one of the big, major cornerstones of his background. The brown and orange costume he wore for years was Clan Yashida's colors.
In the comics, Logan is actually pretty short - only 5' 4". But Hugh Jackman plays him so damn well the fact that's he is almost a foot taller never bothered me.
I agree on the height thing........ Hugh made me overlook it......
I believe it's actually 5'3", but close enough
The movie is an adaptation of popular Wolverine stories set in Japan. Not the best in the franchise but it’s a huge step up after X-Men Origins. Logan is the pinnacle of the solo Wolverine movies (as you’ve probably heard)
Logan is the pinnacle of Marvel movies by far... this one is a good movie, though, it's what happens when you hire a good director like James Mangold and let him do his job
This movie and Logan is kind of a definitive showcase of what happens when you have the best team, with dumbass studio execs who can’t stay on their lane, and what happens when they’re let loose. You have an enjoyable but mediocre movie on one hand and a masterpiece on the other.
Also for anybody curious, there was a Wolverine anime made a few years ago that was actually pretty damn awesome, set in Japan of course!
i think that both wolverine movies are weak because they was made in the same way they did early x-men movie with all writing simplicity and cheesiness of early 2000's superhero stuff. for their time these movie looked outdated. first class and next two x-men movies was written and directed in a more modern way and looked so much better.
I still think this movie was great
6:54 We have seen many international mutants before. Logan, Deadpool and Sabretooth are Canadian, Colossus is Russian, Nightcrawler and Magneto are German, Toad is British.
Wait, I didn’t know Toad was British! (He doesn’t even sound like one!)
I think Magneto is Polish. EDIT: And Storm African and Siryn Irish.
@@Mansplainer2099-jy8ps Nah he's German.
Charles as well
Colossus is _supposed_ to be Russian, but wasn't clearly depicted as such until Deadpool. Also, John (Pyro) was supposed to be Australian.
9:18 In the comics Mariko was one of Wolverine's main girlfriends but their relationship hit a snag when he had to kill her dad Shingen in a death duel. And later Viper who in the comics was just a human assassin with that codename rather than the literal snake lady here poisoned Mariko and Logan had to mercy kill her.
Ironically, I was waiting for Viper and Silver Samurai to be in charge of the HYDRA faction, but the MCU was not synching up at the time. In the comics, fhe pair were... partners.
@@CaptainFrost32 it'd be interesting if alternate versions of the characters with the same actors ended up showing up in the MCU though.
Even tough you did not like this movie that much - stay tuned for Days of Future Past and Logan. These two are really worth it!
Honestly, DoFP is......terrible. Like damn. REAL bad.
@@ieyke you crazy, that's the best Xmen film of all time
@@MyronZhao Definitely not.
That thing is a crime against film-making and storytelling, and riddled with plot holes huge enough to comfortably fly a helicarrier through.
@@ieyke your opinion
@@liquid1514 I mean....it's pretty demonstrably true.
"I can't tell if she's evil. She just goes around killing people for no reason" I really do love the commentary! ;-)
I actually really enjoyed The Wolverine... This was one of my favorites tbh
Wolverine had a pretty rich history taking place in Japan in the comics so it was cool that they did this in a movie. I really enjoyed this movie.
I'm glad they let James Mangold write LOGAN
I am glad Logan went for the R rating
Oh boy, can’t wait for the next one. That being said, if you haven’t watched DOFP yet I would highly recommended watching The Rogue Cut of the film if you can find it.
I would just recommend reading the original story.
Yeah, the movie was good but the comic is better.
Pleasse get the Rogue Cut. Bless you....post sneeze.
@@Rocket1377 this is a movie reaction channel not comic book reaction channel
2:53 Wasn't there a comic that actually depicted Wolverine regenerating from one single drop of blood? That's how crazy insane the healing factor is.
For quite a long time, they nerfed his healing factor.
First was a space virus, then they called it adamantine poisoning, similar to in Logan.
To be fair, that was inside a cosmic temple of life (in Uncanny Annual #7). It's not something he can normally do.
The movie may have started out as Wolverine’s early years in Japan- He had a romance with Yuriko, the daughter of the scientist who developed the adamantium process, but was taken by the secret lab along with the formula, to be it’s first subject. Yuriko thought Wolverine had killed her father and stolen the secret, and became avenging samurai Lady Deathstrike in search of revenge. That would have made a better story, if they also hadn’t messed the whole canon up in X2.
Logan feels all the pain like normal. In the first movie, Rogue asks if it hurts when his claws come out, and he says, "Every time." His claws are cutting through the skin on his knuckles every time he unsheathes them, but he just learned to deal with it. It's also why the guy kicking him in the nethers in the first movie pissed him off. He healed any damage that may have happened, but it's still a lot of pain.
There’s a pretty interesting reason for why the Japanese drive on the left hand side of the road. In the days of the Samurai, they walked on the left to prevent Samurai accidentally hitting their sword scabbards together (katana are worn on the left hip), which could needlessly start a fight and end a life.
lol
No this isn't the first time we've seen an international mutant 😀
Remember, Wolvie(and DeadPool) is Canadian.
Nightcrawler is German I do believe(as is Magneto)
Colossus is Russian
Professor X is English
Storm is from Kenya
(in the comics, a lot of countries have mutant heroes, like the X-Men...For example, Canada's main one is *Alpha Flight,* though many others fear the mutants)
**edit**
Hugh Jackman may be 6'3'", buy Wolverine/Logan is only 5'3". The studio conveniently chose to forget/ignore that ... little... fact. 😀
Professor X is a New Yorker.
He's from NYC and grew up in Westchester.
Why he sounds British in the movies is.....uh.....just because we all like Patrick Stewart.
@@ieyke
lol
fair enough 😀
@@ieyke And, iirc, wealthy people like Prof. X (and his generation) affected the "transatlantic accent" -- which is often confused with the English posh accent.
@@alcor4670 Right. And that's what he SHOULD have.
But in the movies his accent is just British.
I don't confuse them.
The height is on e of the ongoing inconsistencies in these movies. In the comics, Wolverine is only 5'3"
Thank you!! Someone finally pointed it out!! I remember him being listed as that height in the Genesis games and in the 90's animated series. Now this is me, but I preferred the original short Wolverine. Now people reading might disagree with this, but IMO Wolverine was more inspirational as a superhero when he was as short as he was; because even though he was short, he exuded masculinity! He was rude, he was aggressive, he was stubborn, he was very hairy, yet he was probably one of the shortest but toughest men you could come across.
I loved that because I always took it as a message to short guys like myself saying: "Just because you're short, doesn't mean you can't be the meanest toughest man here round the block and being short doesn't make you any less of a man." In a place where being short (something you have no control over BTW) could deem you as being seen as pathetic in the eyes of others, the original Wolverine was a real inspiration to me to battle off that insecurity!
@@ivanw2080 I'm short myself and I remember that in the Sega Genesis game. I think they had him at 300lbs
@@ivanw2080 Yeah the height thing is integral to the name "Wolverine". A real wolverine is small but will take on a grizzly. The whole point of him being short was that he looked up at everyone but was intimidated by no-one.
It was a simple redemption story. Logan retreated from the world from the aftermath of X-Men the Last Stand. He is still traumatized from what he did to Jean. His old friend wants to see him and of course betrays him to gain more life. Wolverine is pulled into this family feud which forces him to protect Mariko, even though he doesn't feel like a hero nor wants to be be, again because of Jean. But in the course of events in protecting Mariko and the good memories of Jean, Wolverine is reminded of what it means to be a hero, to protect those unable to protect themselves. With this in mind he ventures back into the world to be an X-Men. There's the story. Too easy. And this was NOT cheesy. Watch a Roger Corman film, then you will truly know what Cheesy really is. Actually in the comics Mariko was a big love interest of Wolverine. They were even engaged to be married once upon a time. So there is a big history behind their relationship that's not explored in the movie. And Mariko was not committing adultery with Logan as she was not married.
When watching Logan, remember the phrase Yukio says to him inside the car in this movie.
I love how excited you got that they picked the Mission to Mars room.
I generally agree with your reaction to the film. The Wolverine is 2/3 of a good movie. The first part, when it's a heavily character-driven Japanese Noir suspense flick was great. It just all collapsed by shoehorning a Generic Superhero Rumble into the third act. Also, the Silver Samurai would have been SO much more effective had he been truer to the original story, rather than the Iron Man clone they turned him into (Silver Samurai in the comics is literally just a guy wearing Japanese armor, though made of some form of steel, not adamantium).
In the books Logan has a very close affinity to Japanese culture. Mariko Yashida is also probably Logan's greatest love (the movies have GREATLY overplayed the Logan/Jean infatuation, though I think that borrows liberally from the 90s animated series. It's much more restrained in the books) though they were never able to marry, and Mariko was ultimately killed as a result of all the intrigues surrounding her control of Clan Yashida. She got resurrected eventually, (because comics) but she and Logan still never got it together.
One interesting thing of note is that Black Clan was actually the Hand in the original book, but Fox didn't have the rights to use them.
This is the best of the wolverine movies. It's even better in 3D.
VK, inventor of the famous Net technique.
lol was a blast seeing you all hype about the net - a metal one wouldn't do much good either, though, as adamantium can cut through anything
I fully agreed with you, Vicky! Great reaction.
One of the best and most underrated X-men series movies
My whole reason for wanting to visit Japan is so I can stay at a “mission to mars” hotel, it looks so much fun. Also the bullet train fight is amazing and underrated.
That was a love hotel. Apparently, one of the most private and spacious optionz for short term stays. It is weird what you learn from exchange students...
21:45… I’m speechless to what I just saw 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Its so cute how much you enjoyed them using the net
The next one is gonna be fun
Liked and Subbed! I can't wait for you to get to Logan.. :)
"Shoot what is wrong with my mind?" Is a statement i make daily lol
Aside from DEADPOOL 3
We won't be seeing Wolverine smoking a cigar in the MCU
“Bali but ‘super’”
🤣🤣🤣
Great video.
You didn't really like the relationship between him and Mariko because it was rushed. In the comics, Mariko is a bigger love interest than Jean. Wolverine and Japan are deeply connected.
“Go to the hole… go to the hole NOW!” 😂😂😂
There's an alternate ending, in which Yukio gives Logan a gift on the plane. He opens it up, and finds his original brown and gold uniform.
Ok I see it in every video, I gotta say it : I love your necklace! Can't make out exactly what it is but it's beautiful ☺
16:24
It actually bothered me too😂 i paused the video to check only to come back and you gave me the answer
It was amazing to see Hawkeye 's cameo
This is actually one of my favorites but I got agree with you with the ending sequence. That’s the only part I was not impressed with. Everything up to that point I thought was good.
But everyone has their own opinion. Glad you reviewed it anyway! Hope you enjoyed the next two films! And if he was almost crying in this one, break out the tissues for the movie call Logan!
When you said he aged to 30 and stopped I cried 😂😂 I was like he looks at least 40 there’s no way I look that “distinguished” 😂
Living in Anchorage, that Alaskan frat boys comment was way too real 😂😂😂
Another one of the coolest movie I had ever seen. I really can't wait for you to check out the next movie! :D
"I love her nose, she's so pretty I can't get over it" lol I think the same of you. I'm catching up before Logan but I love reaction comments like these lol
My favorite part of this movie is how the prophecy of his death is paid off in Logan.
seeing you react to the blood in this movie, made me think you're not ready for "Logan" 😂
I didn't even know this movie existed. I'll have to check it out this weekend.
3:07 you can’t hide lol 😂😂😂😂
17:36
Funny story, you were talking about how nice and cozy the whole rain and fall weather is and I was like "mmm...yeah I can almost smell the freshness of the rain rn"
And I went to get a snack to find it actually RAINING outside...I was so happy I went down there to a store to get the snack...eating it now...
Regarding non-American mutants, Magneto was a Polish Jew, Colossus is Russian, Kurt (the blue teleporting mutant Nightcrawler) was German.
The Extended Cut of this movie has a longer fight on the train and a longer & better fight with the ninjas at the end.
I almost hated this movie because the Sliver Samurai isn’t a man in robot suit in the comics. He is a mutant!! He has the power to channel kinetic energy with his sword.
That's the original one (and his power was tachyon-based), the current one uses technology.
@@Mansplainer2099-jy8ps I like him better as a mutant
@@biguy617 The new one has a nanomachine-based healing factor.
The amount of people who gripe over creative license, you would have hated the entire Ultimate Comics universe
This uncut version is so much better than the standard version, though the theatrical release in the uk was actually a 3rd version. So that had a totally truncated Ninja vs Snowplough scene & no Mariko badd ass in the love hotel fight. What it did have was 1 or 2 seconds here or there that was basically more Schnikt! Violence. Regardless of how the Silver Samurai ending is a little by the numbers this remains my favourite X-men movie.
Happy Birthday Vicky
0:30 the ending is kind a weird and borderline hilarious. But some of the stuffs in here are great and would be a pre-cursor to 2017's Logan. I really love this movie, especially the first part.
Happy Birthday, young lady!
The "Raiders of the Lost Ark" effect. The world would have been a better place if Logan had just stayed home.
The weird thing is that the Silver Samauri and Thanos are Iron Man villains. Kingpin was a Spider-Man villain, and he once bear hugged Captain America. Vision DID attack the Avengers. He was deployed by Ultron. And I remember first seeing Wolverine as a Hulk Villain. Times sure change.
Can’t wait for Days of Future Past 😊
Rogue: "Does it hurt? When they come out?"
Logan: "Every Time."
Chris Claremont wrote the X-Men from the mid-70s to the early 90s and made them what they are today. Frank Miller wrote and drew Daredevil, revamping that comic book and making it a best-seller. Miller also did the graphic novel 300, and the series "Sin City." Together, they did the first Wolverine mini-series, which this movie is loosely based on.
keep Yukio in mind when you watch Deadpool 2. Don't underestimate japans love affair with pachinko parlors.
I was at the premier of this movie! A friend of mine got me there a I remember 9 feet away from Hugh Jackman 🎆🙏 I enjoyed this movie so much got one of the Movie Posters from it, Great experience, And good reaction here a great one 🤘
RE: "Is this the first mutant we've seen from another country? Outside the U.S.?" ... no ... Professor X (U.K.), Magneto (Germany), Nightcrawler (Germany), Colossus (Russia), Wolverine (Canada) ... there's probably more, but that's I can think of off the top of my head.
Hoping for Logan next, such a great movie!
This was my favorite
I agree with you.
I really like this one.... second to days of future past in regards to Logan....
According to his IMDB profile, Jackman is 6"2 ...I always knew he was tall, which is the one little nitpick I had with him playing Wolverine, because Wolverine is supposed to be 5"4.
But Jackman did such a wonderful job playing the part that I don't think anyone cared he was too tall for the part!
Hee V, I just want to wish you a happy birthday! (Thanks to your Lord of the Rings reaction for that )
I can understand some folks not caring for this movie. I'm pretty mixed on it. But anyone that says this is the LEAST favorite (meaning they like "Origins" more), they need to be examined.
Origins is every textbook direct to dvd action movie ever made, just with a bigger budget.
3:15 Logan doesn't even have time for a BEAR IN THE WOODS. It's probably the BEAR UNDERSTANDING what he has to deal with and wants no parts of that.😂😂😂 I'll go with the latter.
One of the plot holes people like pointing out is how there's now way Logan could possibly have known about the atomic bombs.
10:00 In Japan, most people mind their own business. Also, it's not like they could really do anything.
12:09 No. That's a "Love Hotel."
20:45 That's Brian Tee (Takeshi/"DK" from F&F Tokyo Drift, and Dr. Ethan Choi from the "Chicago" TV series).
21:08 I like how wrong the association of Adamantium with immortality is. He knows Logan is basically immortal, and has Adamantium. But that's not where Logan's "immortality" comes from. In fact, the Adamantium in his body would kill him if it weren't for his natural healing power. Logan literally has eternal heavy metal poisoning, but his healing factor is constantly keeping it from actually doing anything. Conversely, Logan's mutation should also turn him into a feral animal, but the Adamantium is actually "restraining" his mutation, keeping him human.
24:27 Yes. Logan has built up an inhuman level of pain tolerance as a result of his literal centuries of combat experience. Though his quick healing would also just eliminate the pain quicker.
24:36 It's actually not possible to cut Logan in half (or really cut any part of him off that's attached by bones, due to his bones being covered in Adamantium).
- There was *one* instance though, in which Hulk ripped Logan in half, throwing his lower half miles away, and Logan had to crawl his way back too his other half.
33:00 You cut out the tease of the classic yellow/black costume (a tease which is only paying off 11 years later with next year's Deadpool 3 movie). Also, Prof. X is alive because he has an identical twin that was born braindead. So he was kept alive to serve as a backup body for Prof. X, who transferred his mind into it when he died in X3.
Some other things you may not know about Logan:
- He served in WWII with Steve Rogers/Captain America and Bucky Barnes (however, Steve was not aware that he was ageless or a mutant). Also Logan was still going by his original name, James Howlett, as he hadn't lost his memories yet. Steve nicknamed him "Lucky Jim."
- I believe Logan doesn't like planes because if the plane goes down over water, he can't swim since the Adamantium in his body makes him too heavy.
The next movie is the best one of the franchise! When is it going up on your Patreon?
Yes, playing Pachinko very much IS an obsession in Japan.
International mutants are very common, in fact Roy Thomas the editor saw to it that they were diverse in nationality; Logan's Canadian, Magneto and Nightcrawler are German, Colossus is Russian, Sunspot is Brazilian and so on
Mean uncle is the tough Samurai from "Last Samurai ".
i loved this movie. i thought it had a very different feel to it, but it still had lots of fun action! i really do think this is one of my favorites, but it was a departure so i can understand those who didn't like it. there are lots of cliches but i happen to enjoy lots of cliches so it is definitely a love it or hate it movie.
OK.. next one is "Days of Future Past".
One of my favourite!
I would definitely go to Bali Bali with you. I love this movie up until the last scene
It's not bad. But it's not great. Your commentary was on fire though. 🔥 from nets to apples. Had me laughing quite often. This is what reactions should be. :) Domo arigato Vkunia-San.
I watched a movie called Making A Perpetual Motion Machine. It was a slow build, but the ending was non-stop action.
Is that a... Stethoscope in brandan Fraser's neck?
Hugh Jackman is 6' 2" (188cm). They had to cast tall women to play opposite him: Famke Jansen (Jean Grey) is 6' and Rebecca Romijn (Mystique) is 5' 11". In the comics, Wolverine is short and stocky, rather than tall.
That lady mutant is called Viper, and is played by Svetlana Khodchenkova. That Slavic bone structure is something else, heh.
@VKunia After this comes the epic X-Men Days of future Past the Rogue cut
For the next movie "Days of Future's Past" PLEASE watch the 'Rogue Cut' version.
It's more worth it than the orignal version.
Wow that was good vicky
Can’t wait for her to watch Logan
Brodie : Should I call you Logan, Weapon-X? Jay : No, Wolverine! Mallrats 1995.
I just realized those hunters in the beginning of the movie didn't kill the bear, it was the Ninja's because they use poison tipped arrows so they killed the bear to draw out logan
I hope you plan on doing the “Rogue Cut” version of Days of Future Past. It has 10+ min over the theatrical version and includes Rogue (Anna Paquin)
the box Yukio got before getting on the plane was Wolverine s Costume from the comics there's a deleted scene you can watch here on CZcams.
You don't have to apologize for your opinion to anyone or everyone who might be of a differning opinion. I'd seen this movie some years ago. I didn't have the same opinion. Then. After watching your review and wakening to the things you pointed out, I agree with your opinion.
Now u should check out “Logan”, imo not just the best xmen movie but the GOAT superhero film
24:56 Great title drop.
24:00 that thing on Logan's heart is not an insect. It is a nano robot. It is a small robot designed to suppress mutant powers. It acts very similar to The anti-mutant drug in X-Men 3. With Logan it just slow down his healing ability but he's still healed faster than humans.
Logan is one of the best superhero movies. Definitely the best in the X-Men franchise
