  • This is a simple FET booster based on a Fender amp preamp circuit, replacing the tube with a FET. Details are at www.runoffgroov...
    This was quickly recorded with Iphone camera mic (sorry) with a strat running into a Vox Pathdfinder 15R.

    Nice work. I built the "deluxe" version during quarantine a few months back. It's now an 'always on' pedal.

    Btw, it’s played through a Vox Pathfinder 15R solid state amp.

    Sounds really good. I plan to use this as the preamp for a solid state amp based on tda7297 chip..if I run it from a 12v supply, should get 7w. Will run the fetzer from same power supply as it has miniscule current draw, and will adjust drain bias to 6v instead of 4.5v..think that should work.

    God , how nice would it have been if Ritchie put aside his hesitancy and joined with Ian in 1979........but Bernie Torme was fucking fantastic too and thoroughly deserved his stint with Gillan

    Sounds great, did you use J201 Jfet or another different?

    Very cool! There are some commercial pedals as these as I REALLY suck at DIY...

    Sounds great, I built this on a breadboard today, and I found it quite clean compared to yours, some but not much drive…. Did you follow the formulas for the Rd and Rd values?

    • @rodgre

      It IS pretty clean. The drive you hear is the amp breaking up. It’s a fantastic boost. It has a bit more thickness than, say, an LPB-1 circuit, but still relatively clean if you have an amp with headroom.

    I "protoborded" it in last weekend, is an awesome booster... Did you made measurements to optimal biasing? And the voltage? Did you use 9v ou 18v for best results in gain? Tks, i like your video..

      It's such a great and simple circuit. I just measured the bias voltage to 4.5v from a 9v source and that's what you hear. It's a real sleeper circuit. I don't think people realize how great it sounds.

      Yeah the feel when you play a chord is better than without this pedal.. The bright of each note with that bite of overdrive is incredible, I liked this more than I imagined before build it.

      @@rodgre I'm thinking build 2 to put one pushing the other or one tube screamer to be pushed after the Fetzer... What do you think about?

    • @rodgre
      @rodgre  Před 3 lety

      @@fabiolima221 Perfect way to use this pedal. It isn't exactly a "clean" boost, as it introduces a bit of "hair" of it's own, so if you use it to push another drive, be it a second Fetzer or a Tube Screamer, it will bloom very nicely. It's based on a preamp stage from a Fender tube amp and if you cascade two of these together, you're essentially doing what a Fender amp does to crank up the gain. I use this pedal in conjunction with other pedals as well. It's great in front of an already-overdriven amp of course, but put it in front of another drive of any type, you're going to get a unique tone with more gain, for sure, but the extra "hair" it adds will bring out some great harmonics in the second drive.
