    it didnt run away because of the ether. it ran away because we didnt know which way was open or closer on the injector rails. we literally had it pinned wide open. this is what happens when you're dead tired from changing wheels, tires, unsticking brakes, replacing air lines etc and you've never touched a 12v71 in your life and good intended you make mistakes. we got it home, realized our mistake and it purred like a big ass supercharged kitty. bad ass truck, we loved it and miss it.

      Gafarmer7410 Do you mean agricultural tractors, farm tractors or high performance tractor trucks - over the highway rigs. Here in the Land Downunder ether starting is a last resort measure for highway trucks and a sure sign that the engine is - in a word - stuffed.

    • @datbomb98
      @datbomb98 Před 7 lety

      slimchancetoo agricultural tractors as long as the motor doesnt have glowplugs ether wont hurt it ive been working on diesels for 15+years and know almost anything about them

  • @Romans--bo7br
    @Romans--bo7br Před 9 lety +27

    If I was there I'd have taken that can of ether and thrown it in the woods !!.....
    Apparently the guy with the ether knows next to nothing about diesels (or any engine) and ether !!...... Never, NEVER spray a continuous STREAM like that, into the intake!! IF... you "Must" use it... you just "wave" it (mist it) while it's turning over... but a SHORT burst, Only !!
    What "he's" doing there is the fastest way to "holing" the pistons... Especially with the two cycle detroits.. and with the NA 71 series at 18.7 to 1 compression ratio... that's a sure way destroy it.
    Serves you right, that your "nose was on fire" and your eyes were burning.... instead of all that ether, it should have been done Right... pull the injectors, go through them, change the fuel filters, drain the fuel tanks of any & all old fuel and most likely.. water as well, and replace with fresh fuel with some good lubricity additives because the older diesel's injectors will not last long on today's bogus "fuels", change the primary & secondary fuel filters, and change the oil & filters.... BEFORE you start an engine that's been sitting that many years... there's a Right & Wrong way to do everything.
    Today's fuel, isn't the only thing that's bogus... so is your deceptive (re: lie) title.... have a nice day.

    • @Romans--bo7br
      @Romans--bo7br Před 9 lety +1

      2Stroke Diesel Power Sorry... was redundant with changing the fuel filters (above... comment).

    • @claudehebert3131
      @claudehebert3131 Před 9 lety +2

      +2Stroke Diesel Power I was wondering too about Ether. I've seen quite a few videos on CZcams where people almost empty a can of ether while (attempting) to resurrect an old diesel... Either the stuff is willingly diluted nowadays (to avoid being sued because noobs used too much of it and blew an engine), either they were lucky not to have blown up the rig.When we started our Olliver Super 55 (with a dead battery) or an International TD-5 (which saw it's glorious hours many years before), we never had to use more than a small squirt, and the engine came alive a knockin...

    • @MrBugsier5
      @MrBugsier5 Před 8 lety

      you only get black smoke, under full (over) load, and if turbo pressure is to low., black smoke is sud, getting to mutch feul and to less air.

    • @sonshinelight
      @sonshinelight Před 7 lety +1

      Jim Allen
      hey Jim. Whenever I cold started my jimmy, it always smoked blue white until there was heat in it to help burn the fuel. 17:1 compression was for a naturally aspirated NEW engine. I think this one probably won't come up that high. Esp since it sounds like the cylinders were rusty. I agree the batteries sound like they're insufficient to spin it up good, despite the dry drag.. cheers

    • @MrBugsier5
      @MrBugsier5 Před 7 lety

      no balony Jim, white smoke can be water, (agree!) or un burned diesel vapor, seen on low compression starts, bad injectors etc, seen it done it ...., grey and blue is lube oil, black is to mutch feul, (or to less air) (cloged up air filter, slow upspinning turbo etc), never seen a old abused daf 575 run at idle? yup, white smoke, and lots off it! lol

    One or more injectors are stuck closed. Pull the valve covers. Most likely will have to pull injectors out and free up the control rods. Happens when DD's sit too long. Just lucky they were stuck closed... 1st thing after they sit CHECK THAT THE RACK MOVES FREELY! Otherwise would have been whole different video watching the fire drill to stop the runway.
