- We tried to sink a Sunfish sailboat and test how many people it would hold. Sailing a Sunfish gets much harder with all that weight! How many have you had aboard? This sinking sailboat was fun when normally a boat sinking is an emergency. Be careful out there...and find your next adventure.

Amazed that the boat still moved through the water with all the people on it. Says a lot for the boat. I have been watching you videos for a bit. Interested in maybe getting a sunfish. Trying to read as much as I can first. Grew up sailing Sailfish , sunfish. rebels, Flying Scots. On Deep Creek Lake in W. MD. Moved to FLA and got a 5.2 Nacra. And have sailed Hinkleys. Now in Western NC and 72 looking to sail on Lake Keowee.
I haven't seen any videos on sailing apparel though. Any chance you will do a video on what you wear? Thanks . jeff

Absolutely! This little boat has been through a lot, especially during my videos sailing 150 miles around Isle Royale National Park. It just kept chugging along underwater for this one.

Reminds me of a certain boat that we used to see sailing on Bde Maka Ska. Lots of people on a laser always having a blast. It was usually more like a submarine. 😂
When you're pulling your pup and person on the paddleboard, what are you tying off to on your boat? How well does hauling a tender go with the sunfish?
It's pretty fun to have a bunch of people aboard. That sounds like a laser sailor I'd want to go with.
I tied off the paddleboard onto one of the cleats where the rear cable attaches. It was just a quick thing. It certainly effects the steering and how close to wind you can sail.

It was pretty tippy, but I was impressed with how many it held.
@@AdventuresInReach they used to have an annual “how many people can you sail with on a Sunfish” competition. It was held for a very short distance on very protected waters. I can’t recall just what the record was, but I think it was nearly 20. The Sunfish in question was more of a submarine than a surface craft at that point, but the made it across the finish line!
That sounds like a blast. I can't imagine carrying much more unless they were smaller or if it was only sailing downwind. Tacking was just so slow and the boat was barely responsive.
Do you still have your Sunfish? Also, do you plan on creating any more sailing videos?
Hello. Yes I do still have the Sunfish. We still currently have about 3 feet of snow on the ground so I'm waiting for the water to turn back to liquid! I'm really hoping to go sail around the ice break-up if I can time it right. I do have more Sunfish videos I plan to make. I also purchased a Hobie 16 and we are planning another Hobie camping trip, in addition to several other Hobie sailing video ideas. Stay tuned.

Hi, your video was actually very helpful for me as I am considering buying a Sailfish. I’m comparing it to a Barnett 1400 Boat, which has some advantages and some disadvantages. I’m at 240 pound guy, and although I see that your boat can survive with lots of people on it, I’m wondering if you think I would feel stable and secure at my weight on a Sunfish for normal sailing. And wisdom is appreciated!
I'm about 165. When I add all my camping gear for my longer adventures, like sailing for a week around Isle Royale (czcams.com/video/7FEU5iBxFb0/video.html), that probably adds another 60+ pounds. I've sailed that load many full days in 4-5 foot waves without a problem. The Sunfish is capable and could certainly handle your weight. In high winds, a heavier sailor might be an advantage to counter balance the sail and the lean. In lower winds it could make things more tippy and finicky. I think that quick reflexes are even more important than weight. You might also consider the comfort, clearance below the boom, and whether you want the option of a jib. The Sunfish is a tried and true, which means the boats and parts are everywhere, and generally pretty affordable. The Barnett 1400 looks similar to a Laser with a different sail shape in that it has more space, and more options, yet would likely be more difficult to source parts. In reality, any small, narrow, sit-on-top sailboat is going to be more tippy and less forgiving than a bigger one. That can either be a frustration or a fun and exciting challenge. You'll just have to figure out which it might be for you.

In regards to your climbing videos, what are some reputable manufacturers of climbing rated carabiners and climbing gear in general? We will eventually have to purchase some gear once we get more involved and proper training within our SAR team we recently became part of. Thanks I’m advance.
Hello. There are several reliable manufacturers out there: Petzl, Mammut, Omega, Black Diamond, Metolius, C.A.M.P., Wild Country, Sterling, PMI, BlueWater, Rock Exotica..... Just make sure the source is reputable. Check our the Rescue Source catalog. Look into Aztec Kits if you are doing rescue.

Are you a Hobie Cat convert nowadays?
Not a convert. I love the Sunfish and pushing its limits. However, I did recently purchase a Hobie 16 and will be bringing it home in the spring. Which one I use will depend on the wind, whether I have passengers or not, and what the camping plans involve.
I feel this water is too cold for my Florida blood.
Ha! It's not too bad this time of year... for someone used to swimming in Minnesota lakes...
